i have had a sore throat for about a week, my tongue and throat swells up while im asleep and makes it very hard for me to get saliva down...it also hurts when i take tablets, i think i have 'STREP THROAT' but i havent been to the docs... the pain is really bad also...

You may have tonsillitis which usually is accompanied by strep throat. It can be an allergy or more then likely is associated with a flu or cold you may be experiencing too. If your more tired then normal you should probably go see a doctor to get some anti-bacterial medicine to fight off the strep if you do have it.

Use a flashlight and the mirror. Look at the back of your throat. Does it look like white lumps on the sides at the back of your throat? If it does, you have tonsillitis and need to take antibiotics.

Last year my brother had strep for about a week and I learned the easiest way to check for strep.To see if you have strep you can ask a friend or family member to shine a flashlight in your mouth and hold your tongue down with a Popsicle stick. If your throat looks like it is covered with a white flem then you definitely have strep. If you can't tell then I would go to a doctor.

It could be strep throat and that can be serious if allowed to progress. Go to the doctor and see about getting an antibiotic. The strep can invade further than your throat=problems of a serious nature.

look at the back of your mouth/throat in your mirror, if there are red/purple blotches you have strep throat, if not you may just have a cold coming on.
