Lay on your back on the edge of a bed or couch (bed works better because it is higher), if the edge is, say, on your right side and your left leg is towards the center of the bed, bring your left leg up to your knee while keeping your right leg straight on the bed and hug your knee to your chest as much as possible...over time you will gain flexibility if this is a problem for you. Then IN THAT SAME POSITION take your bent knee and cross it over your right leg and let it hang over the edge of the bed for weight. You can either let gravity stretch you or have someone else GENTLY push down on your leg towards the floor. You may feel this in you butt at first but a lot of the lower back muscles connect on the buttocks area and pain will manifest in the lower back.the higher to your chest you bring your leg, the lower down the back you will feel it. the lower down the leg and the less bent it is, you will feel it go higher up your back.

Hope you get some relief!

Stretch as much as possible. Don't sit around for hours on end in the same position or you will start to get achy and feel pain in your back. Touch your toes, stretch your arms, and move in your shoulder blades in together.

my dad has bad back prblems..and i know he was told to do this by his chiropractor... lay on your back, pull your legs up turn your legs and hips to each side and hold them there for a minute,,,all without twisting your back, just move the legs and hips. Its supposed to really help soothe pain in the lower back.. works for me when i worked out to hard that day. Good luck.

Back pain is caused by the pelvis and lower back muscles being out of alignment and tight so it sounds like you have sciatica to me. What happens is the muscles of your core (your hips, thighs, back and most importantly your abs) get knotted and in spasm. You may have done something to irritate any of those muscles or to hurt your spine, like lift something heavy. If this is the case your spine sounds like it is compressed and because of that it's irritating those nerves around the compression and causing you all kinds of pains. When these muscles are irritated they pull the lower back and pelvis out of alignment and that causes painful sciatica and other problems. I hurt my back before and a friend turned me onto inversion therapy or hanging upside down. After just one try I could feel the muscles in my abs start to stretch out as the spasms broke up and the muscles relaxed. As your abs loosen they will release their grip on your hip muscles and thighs. As those muscles all loosen they will release their grip on your lower back muscles. As they relax and loosen they will release their grip on your lower spine and pelvis. Once all the muscles are relaxed your lower back and pelvis will be free to go back into alignment naturally and this is what will stop your pain and sciatica. GOOGLE: sciatica online health mart :to see what I mean!!! Stretching the muscles is the most important thing! Hope this helps.

Lie on your back on the floor. Bend your knees slightly. Now slowly slide out one foot straight, bring it up straight, lower it straight down, and slide it back to its original bent position. Same with other foot, Each ten times. Vary all these leg stretches.
Second: sit in a straight back chair with legs together. Lean down over one side of your legs and touch the floor with your fingers. Same with other side. Ten times each.

I know, because I used to have back pain and 20 years ago took a course at the YMCA called "The Y's Way to a Healthy Back."

I usually find laying on something flat and sturdy, such as the floor, helps.

The best answer for that is stretching. If you go to Menshealth.com search under exercise articles and look for banish back pain. It is a few yoga exercises and some simple stretches. From experience most back pain starts from tight hamstrings. Stretch your legs along with Banish your back pain, and you should feel the difference immediately

Lay on the floor and put your butt against the wall stretch your legs all the way up the wall without bending at the knee and then pull your chest into your legs.
If you can do this with a person it's easier, have them use their body weight to push your legs towards your chest.
