Lortab is ok, no worries. You'll not become addicted to them if you take one every 4 hours (as prescribes by the doctor). If you are worried about becoming an addict, don't worry, cause I doubt you will. You seem to have a ton of self control, so you don't seem like the drug addict type.

I hope you are not allergic to codeine, cause Lortab do have a bit of codeine in them, so make sure to eat something first.

Cheers and GET WELL SOON, hun.

Unless you have an incredibly addictive nature, (like, you'd get addicted to ANYTHING) you're chances of getting addicted to it are slim to none. You're not taking it for an extended period of time, and even if you do get a little "dependant" on it, you probably don't have a refil so it doesn't matter. Of course, if you're uncomfortable taking the medicine you don't have to take it. Try taking a few asprin or advil and waiting a while to see if that helps. Also, there are non-narcotic alternative if you decide it's something you just can't do. Good luck!

Chances are if you are worried about becoming an addict, then you are not going to become an addict...you will be vigilant and follow the instructions. Don't worry about it. Fill the prescription and only take it when you're hurting. :)

Oh my, people are so mixed up on this site. You have some good answers here, but you have some really confused ones as well.
1. Lortab does NOT relax you or give you a high. It does NOT put you to sleep.
2. Lortab WILL relieve your pain.
3. You will NOT become addicted to it if you only take it as prescribed by the dentist.
4. Lortab does not have codeine in it.
5. As with all medicines, Lortab has some side effects to watch out for, but if you experience any of them, just don't take anymore. Your pharmacist should include side effects in the bag when you get it filled.

I would advise you to take it without fear. I give it to my patients on a daily basis and have never sent someone home addicted to it.

Only you can decide what to do from here. Good luck.

Loratab can be highly addictive, but that does not mean that you should be scare to take them. People take them because it gives you a extreme sense of relaxation and calmness, and even puts you to sleep alot of the time. Just regulate how often you take it, which should be no more than a few times a day, and less than like 4-6 hours between each dose. You may get sick on them, like alot of people do. They can sometimes cause nausea and lightheadedness. If thats the case with you, you may want to just stick with just using a over the counter pain killer.

Drug addicts take a lot of things. The main difference between them and you is that they take them for no real reason and you are taking them because you are in pain. Once the pain stops, you will stop taking the pills. Unless you already have a history of being addicted to drugs, you don't have anything to worry about.

missingora
Drug addicts take anything they can get their hands on. You, on the other hand, have a legitimate reason to take a pain reliever for a few days. Lortab is effective and can safely be used as prescribed by your dentist.

Lortab is a narcotic and a controlled substance. Yes, addicts do take it, but it usually isn't their drug of choice because it doesn't give you a good high once you are acclimated to it.

It's an excellent source of pain relief, and if you follow the directions carefully, you shouldn't have any problems. Dependency on them usually develops when you take the maximum daily dosage for quite a long timel

Best of luck!

Yes, addicts take them, but it's because they allow themselves to become addicted. You'll be fine, take one for your pain. As long as you just take it for pain and not to get a "high", you will not become addicted unless you take it for a long time. Make sure to stop taking the Lortab after your tooth is fixed and feels better. And don't take more than your dentist has prescribed.

They sure do. But they work really well for pain, and if you take them according to the label, you shouldn't get addicted.

And a little secret: they feel kinda good :)

Edit: I remembered another good thing to keep in mind. If you ever get nauseous from them, lay down for a little while and it helps a lot.

Raptor
Go ahead and take the medication if you have a toothache. Yes, drug addicts take them to get high and you might even experience some euphoria. Short term, Lortab is not addictive for such a short term and would usually be discontinued once the pain goes away. In your case, I would say that it's safe. Go ahead and fill the prescription and get some pain relief. You needn't be a victim to the pain when you have something that can so effectively alleviate it.

natalie
know your limits, you'll be fine.
just take one to take the edge off the pain, and don't be popping them left & right or trying to buy them off the black market.
Hope your tooth "gets better"

Firstly, if you take as directed there is little chance you would become addicted to it with only one round. Unless of course you have an addictive personality and already have some dependency issues. Talk to your doctor express your concerns.
