is it possible to sleep with your eyes open?

yes, but I have absolutely no idea how you can do it. One of my friend's friends can sleep in the middle of class with his eyes open, it's so weird.

People believe that sleep occurs when the eyes are closed, but that is not so. After all, you can close your eyes, but what if you have a thousand thoughts rushing through your mind?
It IS physically possible to be so exhausted & tired that a person can sleep with their eyes open.

My little brother used to be scared of the infamous Closet Monster.
I've seen him before, prop his pillow up and lean against it, like a chair. He would often fall asleep, but on more than one occasion, he would be seated upright and eyes open. Not fully open, but not closed either.
I thought he was trying to freak me out.
I talked to him, waved my hand in front of his face, and nothing.
He was asleep.

My Dad says that it's because his brain is asleep. After seeing this for the first time and talking to my Dad about it, I would then close his eyes for him. I can't imagine the sensation of NOT closing my eyes. My tears would dry out, my eyes would burn. I don't understand how it wouldn't affect him.

And besides, that's what sleep really is. When your mind and body are basically inactive. All your senses are at rest.

Yes. There is something called 'Night Nurses Paralysis' when, ages ago, nurses wroked long hours, they would sometimes fall asleep with their eyes open because they were so exhausted. Long distance lorry drivers can also suffer the same problem, which isn't a good idea!!

its actually rather common. many people sleep w the eyes open to a small degree. moisturing drops at night help w those individuals who suffer from dry eyes. if u wear contact lenses, be sure to use thicker moisture drops at night.

Yes, the most effective way to rest with your eyes open is awareness meditation or a derivative of the many awareness meditative techniques, which are relaxing and good for you, but do not correspond to the same thing as being asleep. Some individuals, especially children, can and do truly sleep with their eyes open, but this is considered a symptom of a sleep-related problem, and not a good thing.

Yeah, one of my cousins always slept that way as a child. I wasn't born yet, but all of my family members tell me that she did. I hear it was very creepy when she went to sleep sitting up.

Yeah, it is.

Yes, but I'm a shark.
