type 1 diabetes............................?
i'm female 16 i'm always thristy, have to pee every hour and a half to two hours when i don't drink anything, when i drink one liter of water i have to pee every 10 - 20 minuets. i have small white particales in my urine. i'm tired most of the time. i havent gained any weight since september which is when this started. i have also had an increase in appitite. i get headachs stomachs. i have been very irritable. i will just get mad for no reason. everything started on a weekend in september i got really thristy and it was unquinchable. that same day i started peeing alot. i googled it and found diabetes. i have a family history of both types my grandma has type 2 and one of her brothers had type 1. i just want your opions of is this diabetes or something less serious.

um.. you ... it sounds as if your pregnant..?

my sister has diabetes, and it's horrible, you should get checked out by a doctor before something serious happens

it could be diabetes.
i would tell your parents and go to the
doctor or something. because obviously
this has been happening for a while..

the prime symptoms of diabetes are severe pain in calf muscles [below the knee joints] extreme thirst, hunger, excessive passage of urine-- tension adds to the increase in blood sugar levels.
see a physician or go in for Random blood sugar test, which is very easy to find out.

the duration for which you mentioned (since sept) along with the frequent urination is definatlely suspicious of diabetes. Contact your physician so that he can run the tests to find out if you are in fact borderline diabetic. good investigaing on your part! :)

Well, it's sound to be... the better if you consult with a doctor. Nobody here can tell you exactly what it is.

if you catch it in time it wont be to serious
as far as lifestyle get used to it and it wont be to bad
i know from experience back in november i went into DKA
with a blood sugar over 300
but ive learned to live with it and its nothing now

Go to the dr or you'll end up in the morgue. That's how mine started at age 9.

I have been a type 1 for six years now. And your story is exactly mine. Only I was 29 and lost 40 pounds. But my symptoms went on from aug. to april when i saw an eposide of er and that was one of the cases. So I called my doctor the next day. So my advise to you is tell your parents. You need to see your doctor.

You need to see a doctor and get checked for diabetes. You also need to have your thyroid tested. You need free T3 and free T4 to start. Oh, and you need to be checked for a urinary infection.

sounds like you might have it but i would talk to a doctor about it

I did not know i had diabetes but had a terrible headache. Went to the ER and they said I was a diabetic. That was 2 yrs ago. Have your parents get you to a doctor to at least check.

You need to be having a good sit down with your parents! You do have signs of diabetes but also of a urinary infection. Regardless of the final diagnosis, there are too many wrong things going on with you and they need to be checked out. If all else fails, see if you can talk to the school nurse. You need to get an adult rung in to your troubles and you need to do it right away. You have already waited way too long. Get going and good luck!

The wide variety of answers should remind you that this is a potentially dangerous forum to seek medical advice. A family history of diabetes implies what we refer to as first degree relatives - father, mother, sister, or brother. Grandparents and aunts or uncles with diabetes do not increase you risk. The classic symptoms of diabetes are well known - polyphagia (increased appetite), polydipsia (increased thirst), and polyuria (increased urination). You do have these symptoms but you should remember that most diabetics do not present with classic symptoms. In matters medical 'classic' more often means the original description not the most common presentation. At your age - since you did not give your height or weight - should you turn out to be a diabetic it may be type 1 or type 2. Given your symptoms and their duration I must wonder why you have not told your parents. Since you have relatives with diabetes it would be easy for you to borrow a glucometer. A non-diabetics fasting glucose should be less than 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L for those not in the US). Sometimes to make the diagnosis more than one fasting reading is necessary and sometimes additional testing is necessary. The popularity of the oral glucose tolerance test has waxed and waned - and although it is currently in favor - I have never performed such a test in thirty years in medicine. There is a test called a glycated (glycosylated although commonly found in medical literature is biochemically an incorrect nomenclature) hemoglobin A1C. The provides you with the mean (average) glucose over the past ninety days. A non-diabetics A1C will be less than 6% - which approximates a mean ninety day glucose of 120 mg/dL (6.7 mmol/L). Even if you borrow a glucometer, and even if you have repeatedly normal readings, you have more than enough symptoms to warrant a visit to your physician. I hope that you are not a diabetic and that your problem will be easy to diagnose and treat. I wish you the very best of health and may God Bless.
