*show pics of people with bad teeth who didn't care for them
*show an ad for a colgate or oral b toothbrush/paste ad (cus they r the best)
I wouldn't let them choose their own toothpaste and toothbrush, they're too young. Also, if you know the Listerine issues, you'll understand.

Dont Make Me Eat U!!!
show them picks of horrible teeth and say "this will definatley be your teeth if u dont brush them twice a day'

I say, "Clean your teeth or they'll fall out and you'll end up toothless like your grandfather".

mikey's mom! ツ
btw, giving children a bottle to sleep with is very bad also... even milk! just water is allowed! (i know people who give juice or chocolate milk, and they are in trouble now!)

Here's Lily ♥
Giving them candy as a reward.

My advice? Show them what happens when they don't.

Theres a special type of mouthwash for kids, it's called Doctor Blue, or something like that, and when you rinse your mouth with it, it turns all the plaque in your teeth blue. So kids will probably want to get rid of the blue.

I tell them if they don't brush their teeth, they will have cavity, and they don't get to eat any chocolate.

Shannon
Show them photos of bad teeth and then maybe buy them some toothpaste with fruity flavors and mouthwash that's not minty.

1. provide a good example! and show them you are having fun brushing your teeth and you enjoy having clean teeth after a meal! many habits children pick up (or have no interest in picking up) are connected to the behaviour of the adults around them

2. gently insist that they brush teeth after every meal if possible. (Avoid losing your patience and temper, pushing them... be firm, but gentle.)

My daughter bought her kids that toothpaste that turns color on plaque. The kids love using it and trying to get all the plaque off of their teeth.

put their grandparents false teeth next to their bed every night & tell 'em that if they don't brush 3 times a day they will have to use the falsies cos their ones will fall out

Show them really gross pictures of gum disease (also show them what happens if you smoke or drink out of habit!!) and tell them their teeth won't grow back like baby teeth. Tell them all of the nasty side effects of not brushing and flossing. For me, I started flossing and brushing regularly when I was 18 and it took many cavities (and finally a root canal) to scare me into doing it. Perhaps you should scare them about how painful cavities are (and how easy they are to get). Now I don't agree with methods that freak kids out, but if you explain that the outcomes of poor oral hygiene, they should avoid it right?

1. Try to make children feel happy or not afraid to take care of your teeth, or teeth checked by a dentist.
2. One way to make kids interested in caring for the teeth, can use a toothbrush with interesting forms, such as a toothbrush doll complete with lights and others without compromising its function as a good toothbrush. 3. Wear-containing toothpaste flavors favored by children, and safe if swallowed by children. (was there such thing as toothpaste * Teeth * FIRST can be used by children ranging from age 6 months, must be applied by parents)

4. Ask or consult with your dentist about how to brush your teeth good and true in children.

5. Take action to protect children's teeth with a pit and fissure sealant, so that more teeth are protected, or in other words, the teeth coated with sealant.

6. Adapt to your child's teeth checked by a dentist at the time especially children will enter DENTITION MIXED period (the period of replacement of milk teeth to adult teeth).

I would show them pictures of people who didn't care for their teeth. also I would make it fun. Have a timer, get that new blue stuff.

show them a picture of a meth addict's teeth

Uneva
You might find an older friend (like me) who didn't care for their teeth when they were young, (even though my 6th Grade teacher told us all to) and are now having to have teeth pulled, brush and floss extra, use mouthwash, and put up with painful gum disease, hoping not to lose all their teeth eventually and have to wear dentures. If they could talk to someone like this, who could tell them how much they wish they'd taken better care of their teeth years ago, maybe it'd make a difference.

David
Definately lead by example but do not make it a race a full 2 minutes is needed along with flossing to completely remove all plaque.

Matt
Teach them that if they try to look really good they will have a great opportunity when they get old enough to marry really awesome people.

First, you should be certain that your children brush their teeth in the morning and at night for at least two minutes. Teach them how to brush. Ask them to brush circle motions, first bottom half and then top half and then all together. Bottom half should be brushed for 30 sec and same with top and when all together.

After the brush, they should use mouthwash and swish and gargle for about a minute. They should flush their teeth at least once a day preferably at night before brushing.

After each meal, be sure that they rinse their mouth well with water to remove the food remains and decrease the chance of caries.

These are the basic about taking the care of your children's teeth. Apart from this, you should also be very careful about the food habit of your children. Children love ice cream and juices. But these elements have sugar in them.

Children also love popcorn. But when they eat popcorn it is sure that they will get something stuck in their teeth. So, make sure to floss your children's teeth after eating sticky foods like popcorn.

Have an appointment with your dentist every twice a month to check out if your children have got any rotten teeth or what so ever. Give them calcium milk to make their teeth stay strong.

Apart from the teeth, it is also important to take care of the gums. If the gums of your children get infected and go bad, they will soon lose their teeth and the dentist can't fix that. If you do not take good care of their gums and teeth now, you will really regret it later in life.

Yeh, bring them to the dental exhibition, so they can have a better picture of tooth care. Perhaps teach them about natural tooth whitening exercise is also a good practice

Marcia
Take them to the Dental Museum in London, my son went and now his dental hygeine is perfect. You could also set a timer for 3 mins and say they should brush untill it stops. Good luck.

Some children are very willing to perform this dental care. But many children are very unwilling. For those unwilling children you would have to try the different ways. Here follows some ways you can try.

If your children do not want to brush, try to get them one of those fancy electric toothbrushes. They will love it and use the toothbrushes.

Tell your child that none of the boys will like him or her if they have nasty teeth.

You can give money to boys to go up and tell your child that they don't like her or him because of the nasty teeth.

You can make a rewards chart or try to encourage them a little better. Maybe let them choose their toothpaste and tooth brush that they like to motivate them.

Google for some pictures of rotten teeth, turn them around and show them what could happen to their teeth!

In these ways you can make your children brush their teeth.

John
Lead by example - if they see you cleaning and flossing their teeth they're more likely to want to do it too.
Also it's pretty commercial but those kiddie toothbrushes and toothpaste works too. They love it when they've got a new tooth brush with some new character like the Disney princesses are on it. It's particularly good if they've all got different characters so they can compare while brushing their teeth.
