Why are my lips always chapped?
I always have chapped lips, whether I work inside or outside, in the summer or in the winter! I use lip balm every day. I try and use natural stuff without petroleum, but sometimes the stuff with the petrolium seems to work best.
I wonder if my lips are addicted to lip balm? Or if I'm lacking something in my diet to make my lips so dry??

You Might Be Drooling In Your Sleep

maybe because its getting cold and the moisture in the air is going away and your lips are drying out

Having dry lips can be caused by various things.
~ You may not be getting enough water. Be sure to drink at least 16 ounces a day
~ You may sleep with your mouth open at night. Which will cause you to breath through your mouth and not your nose. This makes your lips dry, cracked and chapped
~ You may need a multi-Vitamin if other parts of your body are peeling, skin on your feet, elbows, etc..

I wouldn't recommend a lip balm. Carmex is ok. Preferably I would use straight vaseline on your lips before bed. This is the best way to get rid of chapped lips. It will clear up over night.

Good Luck.

the reason your lips are always chapped is most likely de-hydration. Try drinking at least 5 galsses AF water ( water 100% friut jucies) each day but aim for 8. until then, use Carmex. it will re hydrated them temporarily. don't use lipgloss or lipstick for they will dry out your lips further.

I've always had this problem, too. It's so annoying!

Here's the reason:

The pros at Carma Labs, makers of the amazing Carmex lip moisturizer, say that chapped lips can be caused by a couple of things. The most common culprit is from being out in extreme weather conditions--either too hot or cold temperatures. Obviously during the scorching summer months, your precious lips are much more susceptible because they're not getting enough moisture. Just as the heat makes you thirstier, it makes your lips thirstier, too (they also perspire). When the upper epidermis (the top layer of skin) in your lips gets dried out, your body's natural moisture can't reach the surface. The best cure for extreme-weather-related chapped lips is to use something like Carmex that contains lanolin and Cocoa butter, which help seal in your lips' natural moisture. Carmex also contains something called Salicylic Acid, a member of the Aspirin family, which acts as an antibiotic to prevent infection from severely chapped lips. A good lip moisturizer should get rid of your chapped lips within a week. If not, you could be suffering from something a little more serious--lips that are severely dried out can also be a symptom of vitamin deficiencies, which is common if you're a chronic dieter. If your problem doesn't go away, see your doctor or a nutritionist immediately.

Chapped lips is a condition whereby the lips become dry and possibly cracked. It may be caused by the evaporation of moisture.

Lip balm can often provide temporary relief, though it should not be used extensively. Petroleum jelly (or Vaseline) should be avoided - it may cause temporary relief but worsens the problem in the long run. One should avoid licking their lips as saliva contains the enzyme amylase, which can damage the already compromised lip tissue.
Angular cheilitis — a more severe condition involving an infection and deep cracking around the mouth. Thick lip gloss does not usually help chapped lips, as it usually decreases the lips moisture. Chapped lips are much like peeling skin.

hey, everyone I know that has really dry lips and what you have uses Carmex.(It's either Carmex or carmax) but It comes in a yellow tube with a red lid, and I hear it really helps. It's really in-expensive too. You can find it where you check out at like a wal-mart or something where all the candy and gum is. It's like 99 cents or less. Hope this helps!

VirgoGirl
I'm not sure why they are, do u lick them? DONT it just makes them worse. Try exfoliating them using a damp flannel or toothbrush then apply lip balm =]

Don'tJudgeMe
1. If u like to smoke that could be the reason
2. U used to stay in air conditioned room

Overload your lips with vaseline every night before you go to bed
the next day when u wash your face, rub ur lips hard and all the dead skin will come off
Sounds gross but it works

Only try this if theres nothing else you can do because you become dependent on it

head_cebu
The best way is to consult an expert regarding that matter and ask what are the remedies, maybe you are diabetic or lack of vitamins or minerals that is needed for our body. Go to ur doctor he is the best person to deal with that matter.

BLKA B
because you don't drink enough water...lips need hydration! its not the lip balm, sometimes is you...it might be that you don't have enough water.

if you use too much lip balm, your lips will stop making moisture & then you're on the balm 4ever

or you should go to the doctor to go get it check out or sum thin!!

sammyandbetsy
You are probably not drinking enough water each day. Try drinking water instead of any other drink for a week, at least 64 ounces a day, and see if that does the trick.

Normally nothing in your diet can really effect your lips or how chapped they can get. Most of the time what causes this to happen is when you might get your face wet alot or you could have a habit of licking your lips. My friend Destiny has the same problem. She has a big red mark under her bottom lip. She tried to use lip balm as much as she could but it didn't work. It just made her lips hurt. Try using Petroleum.

Mine are always chapped too! I say try using Burt's Bees Lip Balm. It's all natural and made with beeswax and Menthol. I absolutely love it.

Aurora
Mine are the same way. Probably because I'm always picking the skin off of them. Ew. XP It's one of my bad habits. I remember my mom telling me that it was because I wasn't hydrated enough. :/ ...Drink more water?

Some lip balms can actually dry out your lips more than they help them. Petroleum jelly is probably better -- it lasts longer, and seals in the existing moisture in your lips so that more doesn't seep out :)

I wouldn't worry about your diet (although more fruits and vegetables -- which have a lot of water in them -- is better than dry meat & potatoes for overall body hydration). However, I would try to force yourself to drink more water (providing toilet facilities will be convenient to get to), since most people are chronically dehydrated, and only drink when they're really thirsty -- not a good technique for staying hydrated.

I'd be willing to bet, though, that you simply lick your lips too much. Don't obsess over this, but try to pay attention to how often you do so -- most of my girlfriends who complain that their lipsticks just don't last are usually unaware that they bite and lick off most of the lipstick -- hardly something that can be blamed on the lipstick itself!
