Does toothpaste really get rid of zits?

Erika Q
it doesnt get rid of zits,it just Decreases the size.
but it actually it ends up worse because it leaves a dry spot.

trust me i really does dry them up!

Yes, but it has to be the old-school white toothpaste (not the gel stuff) and it doesn't work on blind pimples.

Kris L
Yes, it can help get rid of acne if it's made with Sodium Bicarbonate and has Peppermint flavoring added ... you can get the same results by making a paste of baking soda and adding some real Peppermint Oil to it (and a tiny bit of water, since Peppermint Oil is very strong) ... put a bit of paste onto each pimple or blackhead and let it 'sit' for an hour, then 'scrub hard' with a washcloth and PLAIN hot water (as hot as you can stand) then RINSE well, three times, in warm, cool, and cold water to get your pores to 'close tightly' ... do this EVERY NIGHT before bed and wash the same way (NO SOAP, just PLAIN HOT WATER) in the morning, and again at noon.

Acne is caused by bacteria. Get put on some antibiotics and go see a dermatologist.

yes but the best thing to do is to wash your face with warm water and a Glycerin soap. while your pores are open rub some Neosporin CREAM not ointment onto your problem area. the reason people get zits is from bacteria and dirt in the pore. neosporins antibiotic base will get rid of that zit what will seem like overnight and it reduces the chances of scarring and pits.

i have never tried it myself but an old friend of mine used it to get rid of zits and she said it works amazingly!

What it does is it dries up the zit so it'll heal faster. It actually worked for me! The good thing about toothpaste is that you won't have any acne scar afterwards :)

No. It doesn't get rid of them but the ingredients in it might dry the pustules up a bit and slow down the process of growth.
If you want a home remedy try after shave, just a dab on the infected area will shrivle up the little critter, but don't worry it wont fall off on your lap.
A good face cleanser is noxema face scrub with microbeads.
Use it daily works excellent

It can dry the skin, and therefore dry up zits. A better solution would be a topical cream with Benzyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid.

yes the open them up and clear it out

Yeah, it's one of those household remedies. The drying effect it has on your skin. I would reccomend putting a dab of alcohol or peroxide on a Q tip and put it on your pimple..

Always There Alice
It works for me. Not incredibly fast but i saw a big difference after leaving it on over night.

no it does not you jus have to wait for them to go away or buy some face wash if you dont have any and wash your face every mornin and night and put face lotion only on your face after you wash it.

Not Me
yea it does. get a cheap PASTE not gel toothpaste and dab a lil on the pimple before going to bed and it will be gone is 2 days or less. regular dial soap works excellent in the same way... if not better.

what it does is shrink the really big ones. Put some on before u go to bed, wake up and it should be smaller..sometimes it gets rid of the zit.

sumtimes, it depends on the person

well, if you leave it on the pimple or zit for at least 9 hrs without being touched, it does go away because it dries it out. after the 9 hours, you wash it off...... hope i helped!

it just dries them out but there are better things you can use than toothpaste

Well, it dries out your skin I think, but the other things that are in toothpaste aren't good for your skin. You're better off getting Clean&Clear...blemish? remover thingie. it's like 5 dollars.
For a Clean&Clear product, it works fairly well.

it dries up the pimple, so it helps with removing it from your face

It doesn't get rid of them, but it dries them out, and gets rid of the yucky puss and water out of them. I hope that helps you out

My 15 year old daughter swears by it, and I do admit, it seems to work for her. She puts Crest on her pimples when she gets one. She would kill me if she knew I just told the whole world that lol!

yea, i did it before but by brother made fun of me and beat me up so i think dealing with the acne is better than getting beat up now but u should try it

I don't know I've never tried it before and don't want to!But good luck with that!

Baylin ♥
It dries it up, making it easier for you to pop it (the right way). Just be sure to use the paste kind, not the gel. I usually use ColgateTotal. :)

It did for me, oddly enough.

it depends on your skin. It may work for some people or it may not.

It's the baking soda paste.... you can make that without the flouride and mint stuff...

Lisa E
Yes it can, but no better than a mud mask would. As it dries on your pimple, it dries the pimple, too...but a tube of mud mask works just as well, and that's FOR your face.

It's only for over night spot treatments (toothpaste). You can't smear it into your face and leave it like clearasil. Just wanted to clarify that, lol!

The answer to this question is: it depends. Some toothpastes contain ingredients which can help get rid of pimples, while others do not, and in some cases they can actually irritate the skin. Given that there are numerous other acne remedies available, toothpaste should really only be viewed as a last resort. It also usually requires an overnight treatment to work effectively, so don't depend on toothpaste for emergent zit crises.

There are two ways in which toothpaste can work to get rid of pimples. In the first sense, toothpaste can act like a mask, drawing impurities out of the skin; it may also dry the skin slightly as it does so, which can reduce the size of a pimple. In addition, some toothpastes contain Menthol or alcohol, two compounds which can dry the skin, although they can make your skin too dry, which is not desired.

If you want to use toothpaste to get rid of pimples, look for a true toothpaste, not a gel, and if you can, find one with minimal additives. Natural or organic toothpastes are a good bet, since they usually have a short ingredient list. Apply a small dab to the acne spot in question, leave it on overnight, and rinse in the morning. Your mileage may vary, depending on the toothpaste, your skin type, and the pimple.

If you want to get rid of pimples, there are a number of home remedies as well as over the counter medications which can help; if you have a severe case which has developed into acne, you may want to consult a doctor for stronger medications. Avoid popping pimples, no matter how tempting it is, because you can actually make the situation worse by causing a deep infection. If a pimple gets truly upsetting for you, head to a cosmetician who specializes in extractions; he or she has received special training in handling pimples, blackheads, and other blemishes. A dermatologist may also be willing to pop it for you.

Some home remedies to get rid of pimples include Aspirin, which can be ground into a paste with water and applied overnight, as well as applications of lime or lemon juice and potato wedges. Over the counter medications can also be used to target trouble spots. More importantly, keep your face clean and grease-free, and use water based moisturizers for your skin care to help avoid the development of pimples in the first place.
