I think herpes (cole sores) are the only ones that can be passed through saliva or kissing.
It is technically possible, but it takes a LOT of saliva as most harmful microscopic bacteria are killed in the stomach. Not many people at all ever catch an STD this way- so carry on kissing, but not for ages!!
Unless you get your mouth cut I don't see a way you get STD's through kissing
I think there has to be an open sore, but its very risky since you may not know if either of you has an open sore.
i think even chapped lips can be considered "open" to some degree.
Saliva, generally not unless it also contains blood (from sore gums etc...). HIV / Hepatitis etc... particularly not.
Herpes (cold sores) are can be transmitted even when no outbreak is visible.
