What is the effect of smoking a pack a day. What kind of disease or diseases will develop?

Christine H
You could develop asthma or copd. Emphysema is common among smokers and not curable. Of course, a big worry is cancer, particularly lung cancer, laryngeal cancer, or oral (tongue, mouth) cancer. Smoking can even prevent your bones from healing if you get a fracture or your incisions/wounds from healing. It can also lead to osteoporosis.

You'll die. Seriously. Your lungs are probably pitch black. You'll die of a heart attack by fifty. Trust me, I know. My uncle died from it, right after he turned fifty. His heart was overworked from smoking...it was almost twice as big as the normal size. So, I'd try to stop.

lung cancer, emphysema, heart problems...
eventually leading to death, of course.

Smoking causes Heart Disease and that is only the tip of the iceberg. It cause Lung disease and many other cancers if the truth be know. Smoking cuts off the circulation which in turn causes a person to not get adequate blood supply to their body organs and in turn can kill. Smoking makes a person look old before their time. It needs to be outlawed. It is a crime! Thank you and God Bless you. please don't smoke!

All kinds of diseases can develop. Cancer, Emphysema, Heart Disease...etc. I don't understand how anybody could smoke knowing all the health risks. you, your hair, and your clothes will smell bad.
the fingers you hold the cigarettes with and your lips will pick up a yellowish tinge.
Oh, yes, it tastes bad to someone who is kissing you.
you will start coughing EVERY morning ( coughing up really ugly yellow sputum)

reduced ability to run, to participate in sports like tennis, basketball, soccer, hockey ( within a year or 2)

increased chance of developing asthma ( next 1 to 5 years)

more colds and flus each year than if you didn't smoke.

lung cancer
and/or
emphymsa
and/or
copd

chances of other cancers besides lung cancers also goes up.
==============

You might also want to add up the cost of 1 pack a day over the year - or over 10 years.
