Why are people ticklish?

adelbackr
I think it's because we got all contrary and harmony feelings.

chocolateluver5
bcause their nerves recieve a surprise

spiker90910
Because they keep you guessin, you don't know where your going to get "Tickled", So with the element of suprise, your body has the feeling of being " Tickled "

xxMTRulesxx
There blood tickles....

thexrayboy
Science does not know for sure what purpose is served by
being ticklish. We do not know why people hiccup either.
The underlying physiological mechanism is known but the rationale as for its existence is still subject to speculation.

www.rehmannoor
its becoz in our brain systems we have got different nerves and each nervous system has a control of things such as touching a hot object. And so we get tiklish in the matter!!

Chico2007
because we have funny bones :)

leigh_olivia
i dont know. are u ????

i think it is a combo between mindset and just sensitive while at a relaxed state.

Mi-Mi
MAYBE BECAUSE THEY ARE GOOFY OR JUST VERY SENSITVE IN CERTAIN AREAS. I KNOW I AM TICKLEISH AS HELL AND CERTAIN PLACES I AM VERY TICKLEISH ARE ALSO SOME HOT SPOTS SO WHO KNOWS

Shawn1999J
people

alohalilreddiva
sencitive nerves. come tickle me and find out

Amy E
I heard that wherever your parents tickle you when you're a baby, thats where you'll be ticklish at later. It makes the nerves more sensitive or something.

semisnugzz
same reasons people have feelings. why do people feel?

bijou

better yet, why are some people NOT ticklish?

Tater Salad
Neural sensitivity as well as self-preservation (where feet are concerned). Little something left over from the caveman days. Our body knows that if you can't walk you can't forage for food. No food, you die. Instinct.

Well, not all people are ticklish. If you tickle my dad as hard as you can, well he won't laugh. If you tickle me I laugh. I don't know if my mom and my aunt laugh when you tickle them you might find out yourself. My brother used to laugh but he doesn't laugh anymore.

al_dickey
So they can humiliate each other without hurting each other. The non-ticklish (evil ones!) always enslaved the ticklish ones. And thus we have devolved slightly.
Saying it is a quick alert reaction to bugs crawling on us is a great answer, except who wants to laugh when a scorpion is crawling on them? ;-)

the77pct
well, if where not ticklish can't laugh and if you even laugh for that you laugh at jokes ethier.

Hippie
Scientists suggest that being ticklish is our defense against creepy crawlies like spiders and bugs, a physiological response alerting us to a specific type of threat. That is why vulnerable parts of our bodies -- feet, chest, and armpits, are among the most ticklish.

While there is no question that being ticklish is neurological, scientists contend that it is also learned. One theory sees ticklishness as a personality-based response to perceived attack. Antsy folks may laugh uncontrollably at the lightest touch, or even without being touched at all, while folks made of sterner stuff won't budge during more aggressive tickle attacks.

ShadoHeart65
The nerves in some parts of the body are more sensitive for special purposes(feet-enviroment u walk on) so the nerves react when something gets them that is different

lw4h
Someone earlier posted you can't tickle your self. I can tickle my self, and I know I'm going to do it too and I still get ticklish :P

I guess it has to do with Human Nature-I mean sensitivity.

it depends on their situations whether they are in a good mood and when you tickle them, their tissues scatter everywhere and keep pushing different layers of skin.

mommy 2 special needs child +1
our nerves are surprised by the touch where if we do it to ourselves our brain expects it

The element of surprise! your brain doesn't know when someone is going to tickle you, unlike if you tickle your self your brain knows what and when it's going to happen
