Do you think i should see another doctor?
i went to the doctor over a month ago now ,with sharp pains in my head, muscle spasms/twitches,dizziness,nausia and fatigue.he sent me for a full blood work and it came back clear so he prescribed me amitriptyline after 2 weeks the side effects were getting worse so i had to stop taking them and wait a week till there completly out of my system so he can prescribe me another type of antidepressants.could it be something serious that my doctors not looking into or im a i just worrying for nothing

whaat are you waiting for?! i think you should see another doctor. the doctor you know may be pretty good, but doesn't happen to know much about your condition. go to someone else, probably they'll be able to help you more. then go back to your old doctor when this thing is over. i'm sure the old doctor's reliable, just not in this particular incident.

I'm not that smart.

The feeling of assurance the doctor gives is as important as the treatment, especially in neurological, and mental problems. Either find trust in the one you have, or find one you can trust. You may merely wish other opinions, and don't need to leave your current doctor for general sense of happiness and well being.

The first thing is to establish the competency of the doctor, once this is found, then you may trust in the treatment, and this will aid the effects of being treated.

I personally would refuse any substance into the body which the sense of smell and taste are smart enough to determine foul, this is how animals in the wild avoid disease, including primitive human cultures.

Nothing fixes what is purely a mental problem better than happiness with all things.

God bless.

I think your doctor is nuts, you should see another doctor as soon as possible, most doctors like one i had earlier didn't do anything but just said this is what you have and he only gave disgusting antibiotics, so we left him and now we have a doctor who gives you thorough checkups and checks evrything before prescribing any medicine because most medication can be dangerous and you can't rely on one doctor unless everyone u go to says your fine,

i would be safe and get a second opinion

kattsmeow
I would defiantly go to another doctor and get a 2nd or even third opinion. I have 4 auto immune diseases and see a number of doctors. Amitriptyline is an antidepressant that has literally been around for years and is hardly used by doctors anymore as an antidepressant. There are other problems its better for now. One of the newer ones, Lexipro can be started the next day after going off of an an other antidepressant and you can feel it's effects within days. Remember as Ann Landers has written in her column, 50% of all doctors graduated in the lower half of their class.

Trust your instincts, seek another opinion. If your primary care doctor can't find out what the problem is, and just prescribing meds then you need to tell him that you want a referral to see a neurologist. If he is reluctant, then get a new primary care doctor. Question why he doesn' t want to give you the referral? Don't accept no for an answer. Take a copy of the results with you, don't assume that they will sent bloodwork results to the neurologist. Because of the HIPAA laws, they cannot share results or your medical records without written consent.

Bao Wow
yeah you need a second opinion

I am surprised that the doctor has put you on antidepressant without further tests. I believe Amitriptyline is also sometimes prescribed to treat chronic pain, eating disorders, and certain skin problems. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this medication for your condition. Ask him the reason he has prescribed this medication.

don't mess around,go to a specilist

you are within you rights to ask to see another doctor, or even ask your doctor to refer you to the hospital to see a consultant specialising in this field. However, I do think the more you worry the worse these symptoms get. Have you tried alternative remedies? or some relaxation classes? if these symptoms do persist, go back and see your doctor, and don't just accept more tablets. You have a right to treatment whatever, don't accept second best when your health is at stake!

OBSERVING ALL
Your symptoms are that of depression and side effects of medication. You can try another doctor if something doesn't feel right. But you have to remember that there is no magic pill. It can take a very long time to get to feeling better. Medicine doesn't have all the answers.

starwberry
If you are concerned about it, see another doctor. ALWAYS GO WITH YOUR GUT. It will tell you that something is not right.
I would be leery of any doctor who wants to prescribe meds and not give answers. If your blood came back clear, you should see exactly what tests they did. I am guessing that they only did a CBC (complete blood count), and there are many tests that they do not normally do. I had to go through many different types of blood tests and other tests when they suspected me of having leukemia. It turned out that I was only having a side effect from protonix. The side effect was extremely rare, so that is why no one caught it at first. When they did my blood work-ups, they took 15 different tubes. Did they do that for you? IF not then you probably are missing some tests.

I also agree that you should see a neurologist, and a psychologist. The latter can help you to rule out that this is emotional, stress, or mental health related. Many doctors try to give you that explanation when they do not know. Modern medicine is always changing and it is difficult to keep up with everything.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT IS YOUR BODY. YOU HAVE TO LIVE WITH THESE SYMPTOMS. MAKE THEM LISTEN TO YOU AND DO NOT GIVE UP UNTIL YOU GET AN ANSWER AND RELIEF! AND DO NOT FORGET, ANY DOCTOR WHO IS OFFENDED BY YOU WANTING A SECOND OPINION IS ONE THAT YOU SHOULD RUN FROM, AND RUN FAST!

Seek a 2nd opinion. There are lots of times when your reg Dr is in fact in error. Your symptoms are not related to depression. Migraines cause Sharp pain, twitches and nausea. Also because of the pain you get no sleep therefore fatigue. No I am not a Dr. I have suffered from migraines for years and none of the meds work for me. Also side affects are sometimes worse that the original complaint.

i would go see a new dr. : )

YES AND AGAIN YES. LAST NOV 16 I WAS HAVING SHORTNES OF BREATH, AND WENT TO A HEART SPECIALIST, NOT GOING TO NAME ANY ONE. THEY DID A HEART CATHERIZATION, AND I VAGLED ON THE TABLE. THEY GOT THIS UNDER CONTROLL. AS YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO STAY IN THE HOSPITAL FOR APX 4 HOURS SO THAT THE PLUG IN YOUR GROIN AREA DOESNT OPEN.. THEY RELEASED ME AND TOLD ME NOT TO WAST MY MONEY OR THE HOSPITALS TIME I WAS NOT HAVING A HEART ATTACK. THIS WAS FRIDAY , AND SAT I REALLY FELT BAD AND WENT TO THE EMER ROOM. MY WIFE HAD GIVEN ME 3 Nitro PILLS BEFORE WE GOT TO THE HOSPITAL. AGAIN THEY TOLD ME I WASNT HAVING A HEART ATTACK. AND AGAIN THEY TOLD ME NOT TO WASTE HOSPITAL TIME, AND DR. TIME BECAUSE I WAS NOT HAVING A HEART ATT. THEY TOLD ME THERE ARE APX 80 THINGS THAT CAUSE SHORTNESS OF BREATH. AND THEY SENT ME HOME. MY WIFE AND MYSELF THOUGHT WE SHOULD GET ANOTHER CHECK WITH A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL STAFF.WE MADE THE APP FOR NOV 21 . THEY DID ANOTHER HEART CAT. THEY TOOK ME BACK TO THE ROOM BECAUSE OF THE PLUG THAT WAS IN MY GROIN. BEFORE I GOT SETTLED IN THE HEART SPEIALIST CAME AND TOLD EVERY ONE I HAD TO BE OPENED UP. HE GAVE ME A 5% CHANCE OF LIVING TILL THEY GOT ME OPENED UP AND THEN IT WENT TO A 40% CHANCE TILL THEY OPENED ME UP. THEY DID A DOUBLE BYPASS ON MY HEART AND THIS SAVED MY LIFE. SO YES GET ANOTHER OUT LOOK FROM ANOTHER DR. AND MAYBE A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL. THIS SAVED MY LIFE AND GOD PLACED ME WHERE I SHOULD BE. AND IT COULD SAVE YOURS.

yes you need to see someone else or ask for a MRI. i have family history of brain tumors and doctors kept putting my dad and brother off until it was to late for them. your doctor and you should be proactive of your health care. any family history of these problems? did they check your heart or carotid arteries or any sleep studies. i would ask for more then just lab work. at least something more then lab work.

You should check with your provider for another doctor immediately. Ask your current doctor to please provide you with a specialist prescription if possible. Do not accept that result from your MD. It is extremely important you receive proper medical attention to find what is causing these symptoms. Ask your doctor to fax your file over to the new doctor so He/She may see what has been done and what results were shown. It may be your current doctor is not Versed in possible causes of this nature.

WWHRD
Try the next antidepressant and give it some time. It take time to find the right medication and it's not an easy process. I'm sorry you're having a hard time with this! I would go ahead and stick with this doctor for the next antidepressant and one follow up appointment before you leave him. Changing doctors right now might mean a delay in your treatment and I wouldn't do that just yet. The good news is you should feel better really soon, so hang in there and try to stay positive.

If I were in this situation I would get a second opinion. I am not sure what tests should be run but I know that with pains in the head, more than a blood test is needed. You probably need a CAT scan.

I am curious, why were you prescribed an antidepressant for this? A muscle relaxer would have been a better choice.

niciash_12
I am not trying to worry u but I am a future doctor and with all of those propblems, that is really serious. They could be side affects of a serious disease. this just isn't normal. I dont believe u should use another prescription. It may be the same as the first and u dont want to be dependent on prescriptions. Good Luck.

Tara662
Yes, see another doctor for a second opinion.

it never hurts to get a second opinion. doctors are human so a different one may think of something the first didnt. you should NEVER be afraid to get a second (or more) opinion

if your symptoms haven't changed and your doctor is being "so what" about it, yeah, I'd get another doctor. Push your doctor first though but if s/he's still acting like it's nothing, go somewhere else. This is not normal...and I'm not convinced it's an anti-depressant you need.

Hmm If i were you I would go back to the a different doctor. Its good to get a second opinion sometimes even a third. I mean doctors are just human they can make mistakes, sounds like your doctor misread your symptoms. Try someone else hopefully they can help you out a lot more.

Dr. Robert Rice
yes, you should consult a neurologist and ask for a full neurologic exam including intracranial exam.

don't forget to choose a best answer

yes...if your doctor cannot handle it, or dont know what is really going on with you, he should refer you to a specialist instead of trial and error... it looks like that to me..he'll give you another prescription? think about it..what if its gonna get worst?
