What should i do if i hav a bone bruise, besides rest that's what the doc told me to do?
I've had this for about 8months and when i had got it right after that i sprained my ankel pretty bad too. So I had to get pulled off my b-ball team which stunk to rest it . That was about for two months and what i want to know is why didn't it heal when i was resting my ankle for two months.

i had a bruised bone as well. honestly there's nothing you really can do about it besides icing the area to control the pain.

in reality your bone cannot bruise it is just trauma to your muscle that is severe and is called a bone bruise to try to get the severity of the situation in your head. i would return to the doctor and ask for an x-ray to get to the bottom of it. something that hurts for 8 months is a serious problem. But bumps in the muscle that hurt and itch are residual blood clots and they may be there for awhile up to a year or two. They are the final healing stage and take a long time to clear up.

you sound like an active, athletic, on the go type personality to me. my guess is your idea of "resting it" was a lot different from your doctors plan.

please keep in mind lower limb injury takes more time to heal ,do you have any infections now or just swellings.

when you take a rest don't forget to put your leg on little height.that will resolve swellings. if it still not healing you could check your glucose level.

its better to go and do a repeat x-ray to rule out any other injuries to it.

You have a few options for a bone bruise. First, rest and don't aggravate it. The more you do physical activities, the longer it will take to heal. This is not a bone break that can be healed in months. A bone bruise can be simple and take a month or two to heal or be complex and take a year to heal.

Second Option is to have surgery to repair the bruised area. This is expensive and will still leave you out of physical activities for months.

Third option is to keep playing ball and be surprised when it takes two years to heal or maybe never.

Please take your doctors advice. Rest and don't be any more physical than theropy your doctor can prescribe or by going to a physical theropist.

It takes a long time to go away but 8 months is a little long. Perhaps ask your doctor for another x-ray to confirm it is not a hairline fracture.

You can try Aleve or Ibuprofin for the pain and swelling but not much else to do I am afraid. You can't use ice or heat or even massage because that is for a muscular injury.

Hope you feel better.

I've had three bone bruises, one on each knee cap and one on a few bones in my foot, and they're the worst because you cant get a cast and know it'll heal.

Rest is the best, putting NO pressure on it will heal faster.

Have you had x-rays? and maybe an MRI?

***If the bone bruise didn't go away in at least two weeks(words of MY doctor.), it seems like somethings wrong. My doctor told me to go for another x ray if it wasn't healed by that time.

I would ice it, rest it, and go see a doctor if its going on this long. a bone bruise shouldn't take that long to heal, unless you keep re injuring it by putting weight on it and such.

sorry i don't have more advice! Good luck! I feel your pain!
