Losing Weight??
I really need to lose weight. Tell me your experiences to lose weight so it can help me please? I already asked a question related to this but the answers i got didn't really answer my questions.

Whatever you do, do not stop eating, thats the worst mistake.

Find a tanita scale, it will tell you your Body mass index, your fat mass, and how many calories you burn a day when you're at rest. A tanita scale can usually be found at any gym.

After you get that number of calories, eat that amount, and exercise for 20-30 minutes a day, five times a week.

Things to help not be hungry:
Eat a big breakfast, drink lots of water.

That should work. It's a simple math equation.
Stay away from anything processed, fried, or anything with high fructose corn syrup in it.

what you got to do is eat grilled or steamed meats and fruits and veggies. Everything cooked natural without a lot of sauces and stuff. Carbs are anything starchy like pasta, bread, potatoes, rice. You don't need to eat very much of that kind of stuff. Also sugar is a carb, the worst one. Stay away from it, you don't need it at all. There is plenty of natural sugar in the veggies and fruits you will eat you don't need that processed stuff. When you do eat carbs, eat whole grains not the processed white stuff. What you don't want to do is cut out all carb, or all meat. Just pick better ones to eat.

Weight gain or loss is determined by a simple formula. If you burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. If you consume more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. Period. When you eat, when you exercise, fat content of food, etc. have nothing to do with weight gain or loss. Someone can eat chocolate cheesecake every night at midnight and go straight to bed and if they have burned more calories than they have consumed, they will lose weight. Also, remember, weight gain and loss are not really determined by the short term. If over the long term you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight. Remember, if you burn 3500 calories more than you eat, that is only one pound lost. The reverse is also true...if you eat 3500 calories more than you burn, that is also only one pound gained. Just make sure that over the long term you burn more calories than you eat and you will lose weight. You can look at calorie counts for different foods (including many restaurants) as well as looking at how many calories different exercises burn by looking at this great website www.caloriesperhour.com. As you will see, some exercises burn more calories than others. By the way, you cannot spot-reduce....doing situps, crunches, etc will not make you lose weight in your abdomen. It will tone the muscles there but what matters most when it comes to losing weight is burning more calories than you eat, regardless of the exercise or what you eat. Another nice thing to do is write down everything you eat---i mean EVERYTHING. Then add it up at the end of the day. Make sure your exercise for that day has burned more calories than you ate and you will be well on your way.

Well, I have the opposite problem, but this should help you too.
I'm trying to gain weight (muscle weight, and it's working) so what I do is exercise 2-3 days a week and on those days, eat extra meat and food. Drink a 2 protein shakes on the exercise days (before and after). On the resting days I eat less, drink protein shake, drink vitamin C (from packets). Sleep well. That's basically it. I use to be 125 and now, 2 months later, I'm 136. One should only gain (or lose) 1-2 pounds every week. Eat fruit every morning (not in cans, but actual fruit) and vegetables every lunch (sugar snap peas, carrots, steamed brocolli) and make sure to eat some sort of meat for dinner on your work days. On your rest days, what you chose to eat for dinner is your choice, but I like to eat a lot of rice and chicken.

1. you don't NEED to go on a diet, to make working out fun, i play dance dance revolution. it's funnn and i actually lost like 4lbs from playing it for three days lol.
or you can take 1 mile walks every morning. i reccomend morning though because it will keep you awake and fresh during the day :)

2. 3500 calories burns off one pound so 17500 calories for 5lbs.

3. eat fruit, vegetables obviously, you should cut down on wheat and bread. but anything else that's not junkfood will help. ask your mom to get organic food, its a little more expensive but it helps you loose loadss lol.

4. avoid junkfood ofcourse, and wheat. salad actually is harder to digest so you can eat some, but dont go crazy lol :)

5. ehh.. i don't think hula hoops help you much, just walk while listening to your ipod and if you dont have one you should take pictures while your walking (i do that! :D lol).

6. crunches help your stomache area alottt, so if you're trying to get rid of belly fat, do mostly crunches. pushups are for your arms and legs, so do about 30 everyday, or twice a day. and to help your abs, lay on the ground and put your legs and feet to the ceiling then a little lower, and a little lower, and it hurts hahah.

ok well a hula-hoop will help you lose weight, but don't just do it for 2 minutes and be done with it, make it a good workout for at least 20 minutes. To lose wieght you need to do cardio like running (hula hooping for long periods of time) stuff like that. Crunches, push-ups, sit-ups are good to do in addition to that, but not on its own. Eat small meals many times in the day to keep your metabolism going. Try 3 main meals with snacks in between. Drink a lot of water too. Eat the recomended servings of each food group, even if your dieting to lose wieght doesn't mean it shouldn't be healthy with less nutrients. Don't eat too much carbs but if your exercising alot then you will need more food in your diet. Avoid fatty foods, when you look at labels i wouldn't pay as much attention to how many calories it is as much as how many calories of fat there are because that is fat that is already in the food without your body even storing it up. I'm not sure how much calories you would have to burn to lose atleast 5-10 pounds but i hope what information i do know helps you :)

well i'm already skinny but for you i recommend that you don't buy those pills that say they will make you lose weight that just a scam and sometimes they just make you even fatter
1st. dont eat past 7pm
2nd.set a goal for yourself of how much pounds you want to lose (ie.15 pounds in 30 days)
3rd.eat healthy nothing with much carbs and greasy.
4th.exercise alot during the day and out (ie.use stairs rather than elevator)

1.DO NOT stop eating, just eat a little less... meaning dont have a big ol' plate full of food. You dont really have to do excersise, a balanced diet can do it, but if you want to build some mucles then do it, and also is you want to lose weight a little faster. Drink alot more later, and drop the sodas. Walking for 15 -30 minutes is fine.

2. to lose 1 pound you have to burn 3,500 I believe it is...and the same amount to gain the pound. So just write down the thing's you eat, watch calories.

3.If you get the feeling of wanting to eat something, eat fruits or vegetables. Eat non fried foods, just grilled, AVOID FAST FOOD!!! Fast food is the worst, it has lots of calories and cholesterol!

If you want to eat something thats made fast, eat Subway.. avoid Quiznos.

4. As before, avoid fried foods, fast food, candy,sodas, artificial juices, bread ect ect.

That hula hoop can help, you are working out your body, burning calories, and working your muscles.

The type of excersise depends on where you want to loose the skin, if its the tummy, I recommend starting off with 25 crunches going front, 25 to the right side,with your right leg crossed onto your left, going up with your left elbow touching that knee, vise versa.

Push ups helps but builds muscles on the arms.

I do a combination of warming up by stretching all my muscles for 1 minute so I dont get muscle cramps, I start jogging for 30 minutes without stopping, I walk for 10 and I get on the floor to start the crunches I just told you about.

I lost 45 pounds just doing all I told you about.

a really good thing to do is drop all kinda of sodas....stick to water.

instead of sitting watching tv, do a couple crunches or jumping jacks.

if you have any animals....take them for a walk:)

i used to weigh 150,
and i'm 5'4"....

do HIIT it burns fat like hell releases Hgh so u may grow taller keep in mind not ordinary cardio or running at consistent rate but intercval training tho running at consistant rate helps too somewhat

every day you burn about 2000 calories from just normal stuff
if you just burned 200 calories, say on a tredmill every day you would loose one pound every two weeks

but if u want it really fast every two minutes you skip, yes skip you loose 100 calories.... haha soo easy

Well I lost alot of weight cutting out soda, (if you drink it) and drink at least a gallon of water a day if you body can handle it. Because body fat is water souluble, and you will lose weight everytime you urinate, sounds disgusting but it works and make sure to drink alot of water while working out doing hardcore cardio.

2.) Depends - that doesn't really make sense - you would want to know how many calories it is appropriate for you to burn daily in order to lose the weight
3.) Healthy things without lots of butter or sauces - steamed veggies, baked chicken or fish, brown rice, etc.
4.) Fats and oils - no desserts (unless you add them into your calorie count), chips, etc.
5.) Any sort of exercise will help - I don't know what exactly you are supposed to do with that!
6.) Cardio is best for losing weight - jog, bike, etc. - just elevate your heart rate

When I was losing weight, I signed up for the Self magazine(www.self.com) challenge and it really helped. It gave me menu ideas and workouts specifically for what I wanted to do (lose weight instead of build muscle or whatever). It also has ways to track yourself and what you do or eat. I thought it was great. They also have good workout ideas there you can print out.

Walking. it works trust me. A couple of months ago I decided to go on a diet tha consisted of me eating seaweed and rice (basically sushi) and every morning me and my mother walked about for hours. We would walk to places we would normally take the train or bus to as well. We did this 5 days out of the week.
Before I did this I weighed 158 and after the week was over I weighed 151. I was so excited I called up all my friends and told them the good news as well as to glaot since they didn't believe that I could lose weight.
I stopped walking as well as my diet but I still way 151, But than again I don't eat alot anyway. I only eat if I'm hungry. Eating in small portions is what you should do for lunch and dinner. It's okay to eat a big breakfast cause most of that will be burnewd off later on in the day.

1) Eating well and exercise always helps to lose weight. Setting goals for yourself is a great thing to do, but dont set an end result as your goal. It only leads to disappointment and eventually quitting because you havent reached your goal in time of looking like the complete hottie you are destined to be. Create weekly goals for yourself. If you did 10 straight pushups one week then next week try and do 12 or 15. You will get stronger, lose more weight by gaining muscle and feel better physically and mentally. Also, learn how to count calories. Make sure you read serving sizes as well. If you have a cup of cheerios for breakfast and the box says the serving size is only half a cup, then you know you need to double the calories on the label.

2) Like others have said, there are 3500 calories in 1 pound of fat. An average diet is about 2000 calories a day. If you burn 2500 calories a day. Then it would take you roughly a week to lose 1 lb of fat. 7(days in a week) X 500(extra calories burned a day) = 3500. Since you would be burning 500 calories of fat store from your body plus whatever you ate. To figure out exactly how many calories your body will need in a day you will need to find out your lean body mass (muscle in lbs.) and divide it by 2.205 multiplied by 30.4. So a person who has 150 lbs of lean body mass, not total weight, would need 2100 calories just for every day life. If you go to a local gym you can ask if they have a small device to tell you your lean body mass. They would usually do it on a free evaluation.

3) Fruits are always good to have as well as vegetables. Dark green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli and brussel sprouts have lots of good nutrients compared to things such as corn which is heavy in starch and not as nutritious. Also, if you can help it, eat 6 times a day rather than the traditional 3 bigger meals. The 6 times a day with smaller meals helps keep your metabolism going which means you burn more calories throughout the day. For protein intake which helps tremendously with metabolism is recommended to eat about .5 (half a) gram to 1 (one) gram of protein per lb of body weight daily. Lean beef, chicken/turkey and fish are excellent sources of protein. Fish is great because its low in fat and calories. Nuts are also great for essential fats. Although you might think avoiding all kinds of fats would be best. Its the saturated and trans fat that you want to avoid. Almonds, cashews and the like are a great source of essential fats and protein that your body needs. Whole grain bread is also a great food that you can eat along with brown rice. Water is great too. Lots of it.

4) Foods you should avoid to lose weight are anything high in saturated and trans fats. Also things high in sodium are bad as your body can retain the sodium which causes water to build up in your body and make you weigh more. Drinking enough water helps with getting rid of excess salt in your system. Sodas are also really horrible for you.

5) A hula-hoop could certainly help with losing weight. If its fun for you and you can do it on a consistent basis why not?

6) Cardio is always a good way to help lose weight. Building muscle in general also helps lose weight. When you gain lean muscle you actually burn more calories when resting. So you can potentially lose the weight easier. There is also a myth of a thing called spot training. Meaning if I do crunches the fat on my stomach will go away. There is no such thing as spot training. Although you do want to work your abs to gain muscle, do crunches. Sit ups are thought to work your abs really well but they only slightly work them. They only create strain on your back and neck while working your hip flexors. When you exercise your body will burn fat all over so you just have to be patient in burning fat in certain areas. Some good exercises that you can do are compound movements. Some examples of these are squats, deadlifts, lunges, bench press, push ups, pull ups and rows. This means they are engaging many other muscle groups to stabilize the body when doing the movement. When squatting your abs and back have to work to keep you from falling forward or on your butt while you lower the barbell working your legs. When talking about cardio many people consider the longer the better. There have been studies that show high intensity interval training helps release greater amounts of hormones which in turn burn the most amount of fat along with the least amount of muscle. What happens when exercising is the body releases hormones because its being stressed. It needs fuel to power your muscles. If it doesn't have energy from the food you ate it goes after your fat stores. After that it goes after muscle. Some examples of high intensity interval training are jogging for 1 minute then sprinting for 30 seconds, jogging for 45 seconds and sprinting for 20 seconds and so forth. You dont always have to decrease in time for each sprint and jog. Sprinting for 100 feet then walking back, sprinting 100 feet again and walking back with sufficient breaks of around 1-2 minute(s) to catch your breath are great for burning fat.

Carbs are mainly fuel. They are made up of simple and complex sugars. Good carbs are things like fruits, whole grain bread and brown rice. Bad cards are things like white bread and chips.

3. Salad and grilled chicken but i also eat 3 boiled eggs everyday but only the white stuff and for breakfast i eat the special k cereal( the one with chocolate) with skim milk( it tastes good i promise) and i drink water or diet soda
4. You should definitely avoid fast foods and regular soda
5.Any type of activity burns calories some more than others
6.you can do crunches, sit-ups or jogging on a treadmill or around your neighborhood or playing sports.

Hey Ruby,
I think it will just overwhelm you to answer all those questions, so lets get to the point that weight loss depends on 2 key things - diet and exercise.

For diet, I'll keep this simple:
Stay away from soda, juice, sweetened teas and coffees, sugary cereals, and candy. Also cut back as much as possible on bread, rice and pasta. Anything with 'white' in the name is bad. 'Brown' is good. Drink a lot of water and try to eat smaller portions, just more often.

For exercise, hula-hooping is a good start, but you should aim for something a little more strenuous like running or biking. One of the most recommended by professionals is something called interval training.

Its basically short periods of intensity mixed with short periods of rest. What this does is essentially smack your metabolism in the face to wake it up and force it to burn fat. Here's a perfect example that worked for me:

1 minute - jog (warm up)
30 seconds - sprint
30 seconds - jog
30 seconds - sprint
30 seconds - jog
30 seconds - sprint
30 seconds - jog
30 seconds - sprint
1 minute - jog (cool down)

This entire workout lasts less than 6 minutes but will absolutely kick your butt. When you sprint, go 100% full speed. At the end, you can jog for longer if you'd like until your heart rate calms down a little.

Do this everyday for a week and I will bet you anything you'll notice a difference.

girl, you are not alone, you really shouldnt freak out so much though for 5 or 10 pounds.
in my experience, cutting carbohydrates will give you the most weight loss, the fastest weight loss and more energy to want to exercise.
cut out bread unless its whole wheat, pasta is loaded with carbs, anything with sugar is a no no.
If you drink a lot of soft drinks that are not diet, you could lose the weight simply by cutting those alone out.

Sorry this answer is long.....But it's WORTH READING! I PROMISE!!!! I JUST WANT TO HELP!

1. Best way to lose weight is to eat healthy and exercise regularly. (About 5 times a week is a good goal for at least 45-60 min)
2. The number of calories you need to burn depends on the number of calories you consume. Basically you'll want to burn more calories than you consume in order to really do anything about your weight.
3. I'm a nutrition nut (not a health nut lol) so I know that the most important foods to have in your diet are vegetables. Grains are next, but you want to eat things made of whole grain because they will supply better nutrients than white flour. Then comes fruits, dairy and protein. In stead of filling up with breads and meat, focus more on salads, or vegetables. You want vegetables for every meal if you can, and also snacking on veggies in between meals. This is the healthiest way to eat. In turn you will have more energy=more calories burned=more weight loss.
4. Foods to avoid are basically just fatty foods obviously (but you already know that). Eat lean meats like very lean beef, pork, and fish. Also avoid eating large meals. It's better to eat 5-6 smaller meals a day w/ light snacks in between. Oh and never eat anything in excess! A variety of foods that completes and balances your meals are most needed.
5. I'm sorry to say that the hula hoop will most likely not help you lose weight, it won't get your heart rate up enough to do anything.
6. Exercising is extremely vital to losing weight! It goes hand in hand with eating healthy. You need to have balance between an aerobic exercise plus strength training. Aerobic exercise is important because in order for exercise to be worth while, your heart rate needs to be in a good range. You can find out what your healthy range is at http://www.changingshape.com/resources/calculators/targetheartratecalculator.asp Then strength training is essential because it builds muscles and strength, and the stronger you are, the easier it is to stay healthy and keep up a high metabolim. What I recommend is to start your work out with an aerobic exercise and do it for a warm up (at least 10 min should be your goal), then follow up with strength training.

Aerobic exercises include, speed walking, running, jogging, stationary bike, aerobic class, a fast paced yoga, etc...anything that will get your heart rate up. You don't want to make it strenuous on yourself though. That is unhealthy.
Strength training includes lifting weights, push-ups, sit-ups---but mostly weights!
It's important to keep in mind that pounds aren't as important as losing fat. Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you easily gain muscle (don't worry you'll never have muscles like a guy) you might gain muscle weight at first, so don't fret! It's very usual.
Another important thing is to not give up! If you feel like you're not getting anywhere.....be patient, unfortunately it's much easier to gain weight than to lose it. Don't give up hope!
One more thing, pay attention to how you feel more than how you look! Feeling good and healthy is key to feeling good about yourself and how you look!

This is simple cut down on your calorie intake, they don't recommend you have I think it's below 1200 cals a day, but I'm having 600 a day. And drink loads of water so that your body does not hang onto anything it doesn't need, making you feel bloated etc.

A pound of fat, which I'm assuming is what you want to lose? Water weight never got anybody anywhere. A pound of fat is 3500 calories. So if you are eating 1200 a day, and your body needs 1800 to maintain. That's an off-set of 600 a day, meaning that you'll lose a pound of fat in just under a week, which is healthy weight loss. Fruits like watermelon, banana, apples, pears, grapes are all low in calories and are good for you.

Avoid anything high in saturated fats, chips, hamburgers, bread, yeast- buns, cinnabons etc, it will just sit in your stomach making you bloated and fat. Dairy, avoid cheeses, and most milk if you can. Obviously avoid sweets, as they sky rocket your bsl(blood sugar levels), then they plummet down resulting in a binge, or the eating of more sugar, again making you fat.

It depends how much you do, experts recommend that you need at least 30 minutes of exercise to burn fat. It has to be in consistent 10 minute periods, so It depends if you're doing 10 minutes non stop, then having a break and doing this for 30 minutes straight, then great, But the best things are aerobic, like a step class or running.
6.) What exercises can I do to help me lose weight? (ex: like crunches, push-ups, sit-ups,etc)
While exercises may burn calories, not as many as cardio but calories none the less. To burn fat, you need aerobic activity. All of the things you mentioned above, will tone your body, making you look slimmer, and probably resulting in weight loss. It's best to do cardio i.e running or whatever, then follow that up with the exercises you mentioned.
