Is Anorexia Bad?
im 14, 5'9, and 163 pounds. im not that much overweight, but not skinny either. i want to be skinnier and lose weight. i was thinking of starving a little bit, but scared im going to not grow that much. & i wana be kinda tall. is it ok if i starve and drink milk to help me continue growing. im not going to starve excessively, but just eat a little bit. answer this question & xplain. heres my daily meal plan im currently doing...wake up at 7 am and eat a medium/ big breakfast such as a bowl of oatmeal and toast with a glass of milk. at school i eat some bites of my lunch and drink the milk and juice. at dinner i eat a medium portion at about 5 pm and then their after i just drink milk/water, 1 yogurt or fresh fruit. is this healthy. i then exercise on the treadmill and burn 350 calories on their. is this healthy, what can i do to improve this. please help. im not happy with my weight & im just thinking of starving by eating a little bit. when i eat healthy and work out i see no results

if you feel your overweight, then excercise and eat very healthy...anorexias not something you want to get into and you will see results if you excercise and eat right...dont try and take the lazy way out...anorexic people excercis there asses off aswel as starving...you said that you dont see results when you eat healthy and work out...your abviously not pushing yourself enough though...try excercising for 2 hours atleast 5 times a week and eat VERY healthy if you really want to lose weight youve to put effort in and not half a*s it!!....

Duh, anorexia will screw you up for life, mentally & physically. And if you think it looks good, you are clearly mental.
If you are overweight, eat sensibly & excercise. Tone your body with excercise as starvation induced weight loss looks disgusting.

starving yourself only hurts you more. you will slow your metabolism down, and when you go back to eating you will gain your weight back and more. if losing weight is your goal, then do it the healthy way. lots of fruits and veggies, lay off the soda and less sweets.

Yes,Anorexia is bad and do not even think about starving yourself cause you will just mess up your metabolism.When you starve yourself you are mostly losing water weight and you will gain it back eventually.I would suggest you try and lose weight the right way.Exercising and eating more healthier.Drink plenty of water and eat lots of fruits and vegetables.Avoid fast food.

naw dude you are just fine. not fat at all. if you starve yourself then your body wil rebel and won't work right, esp. if you want to gain muscles. just eat more protien and less of everything else and drinks lots of water.

even though you're fourteen and dieting might prevent growth, boys grow later in their high school years unlike girls who grow earlier (around middle school ages).

if you're not satisfied with your weight, don't think about just eating less. eat healthy and stick to 2200 calories since that's how much a guy should be getting in a day. if you need to keep track of how much you're eating, get a small notebook and write down the things you eat and the amt of calories they contain. that'll help you maintain a steady diet.

don't drink water while eating because water expands your stomach and will cause you to eat more. drink things with substance with your meals because it will make you full quickly. also, don't eat while watching tv because you actually end up eating more like that. eat in small portions too.

put a lot of vegetables and fruits into your diet. instead of eating red meat, try going for lean meat. if you can, try to stay away from sugar and greasy fats, but it's okay to indulge yourself in a little something once in a while.

eat spontaneously but don't eat big meals so that your stomach will be digesting continuously. when you eat at specific times of the day, your stomach will assume those times and begin readying its digestive fluids then. but eating spontaneously will keep your stomach ready for whenever you eat. to make a long story short, eating spontaneously will increase your metabolism.

for exercise, try to switch up your routine. instead of just running on a treadmill, walk up and down elevated levels. stretch, do some leg lifts or sit-ups, add a few squats and pull-ups. change it up so that your body doesn't just become accustomed to running on a straight level and get lazy again.

and another thing about exercise. to lose calories, exercise in short bursts and very spontaneously. your body will be using your small energy storage aka calories. to lose fat, exercise regularly for long periods of time. this is because your body will stop going to your small energy source and turn to burning fat, an energy source that is more abundant and takes longer to get rid of.

anorexia is definitely not a good idea. your metabolism completely slows down because you're not putting any food into your stomach and your stomach has nothing to digest. so your stomach's functions are basically lying dormant. once you decide to go back to your normal eating habits, your stomach will not be used to having to digest all of a sudden and your slow metabolism will cause you to gain more weight than your previous original weight before you became anorexic.

so the key to losing weight is a good diet and regular exercise. not just dieting. not just exercise. BOTH!

and remember, there are limits to losing weight! don't go overboard.

Yes it is a terrible disease, It is caused by very low self esteem and sometimes to get attention. It can cause deadly repercussions to you. You could end up dead by a Heart Attack, and slowly killing your organ by deprived nourishment. I would check a doctor and find out what kind of diet he/she subscribes that would be healthier for you. Don't go Anorexic, NOT GOOD!

Anorexia is really bad. their is a disease for it if you starve to much. it is bad if you do it to often. but you can lower your meals just so you get a good meal. the best thing is to eat more low fat
food thats good for you and work out.

yes!! anorexia is bad. to lose weight i suggest narrowing down your calories to about 1400 calories a day. 300 calories at every meal, and then 3 snacks around 100-200 calories. stick to this diet, and you cant go wrong.

actually, this will NOT help you lose weight. it will actually do the opposite. you see, when you starve yourself, your body recognizes it, and STOPS burning calories. it tries to save every little bit of fat. your body will actually store MORE fat. if you want to lose weight, avoid eating sugars/carbs and fats together. you can still eat them seperately, just not together. also, work out a lot. DO NOT starve yourself. although most people dont realize it, starving yourself will make you FATTER.

Do NOT starve yourself, it'll RUIN your health, and you will just GAIN weight.
Big Breakfast, Medium Lunch, Small Dinner, and HEALTHY snacks(and overall healthy meals) with plenty of excersise to burn the calories and PLENTY of sleep!

You're probably not seeing any results because 1) you're already at an optimal weight for you, or 2) you're still taking in more calories than you burn. That's really what it boils down to. You can live in milk alone, and yes, I think you'll stop growing. You need all the protein and carbs you can get right know, in the middle of puberty. I would wait on the dieting until you're at least 16. I think you'll find you'll even out.

Oh goodness. Do not starve yourself - exercise and eat healthy. Not eating and only drinking milk will not help you to continue to grow. Not eating will completely stunt your growth while you lose a ton of weight and run the chance of DYING from anorexia.

You are eating a great breakfast. For lunch please eat your entire lunch and drink only milk or juice. For dinner a medium portion is good (assuming you truly mean medium) ... yogurt & fruit is great as a snack.

my friend stopped eating food and only ate like an apple a day and peice of toast and she is just not the same. she no longer has any personality as her attitude and mind are always completely swallowed by thoughts of food. Don't do this to yourself - you are too young and have too much to lose right now.

If you have a small amount of protein at every meal. Put the protein in your mouth first every time. This will send a signal to your brain to turn off hunger and it will turn off insulin. Do not exercise excessively as this builds muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Your body shape will change but weight will not drop. If weight loss is the target Gentle regular exercise and protein will contribute to lean muscle mass. Good Luck

first of all, milk is for fattening up baby calfs in to 400 pound cows. second, for breakfast, why dont you have a fruit along with your oatmeal, instead of a piece of toast. the fiber will help keep you fuller longer, rather than just filling up on all carbs. also, eat your lunch. that way, when you go home and have dinner, you wont binge eat because you feel starving. actually, your meal plan sounds good, except for the starving part. anorexia is a disease/addiction. you dont want to go down that road.

oh, and 5'9 is a good height. and you'll probably grow more considering your age.

This will reduce what you want and help stay the best weight:

Okay. Cut out eating in between meals.
Only eat healthy food and cut down on Carb’s like bread, potatoes, pasta's, rice, cereals, lollies etc. These are the fat making foods.
Don’t add salt to your meals. Cut out soft drinks.
Then walk an hour every morning two hours after a meal and the same in the afternoon.
If you can jog in between both sessions you'll burn even more calories.
You should lose and continue to lose more weight as you go.
If you can cut out your lunch meal and replace it with a protein drink instead that would also help. Available in supermarkets.
As long as you can stay off junk food and eating in between meals. If you have to eat something in between have something like small raw carrots or Celery sticks.
Choose a cereal low in sugar for breakfast.
Lunch can be a protein drink. Like “Slim Right”.
And all normal meals at a normal serve. Cut down on potatoes and only have small portions of these.
Walking as much as you can.

I'm a nurse, anorexia can kill.
Go to your doctor and tell him your worries, he will guide you to a balanced reducing diet if you really need one.
STARVING is never correct.

I am anorexic, I only eat once a day barely, I use to b 96lbs til they put me on meds n i went to 190lbs in 2 yrs (while still starving myself) I worked out 4-7hrs a day thru it all . finally (after some surgerys for medical reasons) I told my doctor I was goin to go bulimic if he dient help. so I am on prescription diet pills, in a month I have lost 35lbs. I dont eat breakfast, or lunch. I work out 1-3 hrs a day. I eat alil at dinner. my hair is falling out, I have my back teeth surgically removed. I have a headache all the time, so I take tylonal, I get dizzy alot, so I keep water with me at all times n mayb some fruit just incase, my muscles hurt all the time, I have so many medical problems now its not even funny. but hey I am losen the weight fast n hope to b thinner sooner. if I dont die first. no this isnt a joke. its my life. everyone says I look better now than I did at 96lbs but all I see is a fat cow. when I was 96lbs all I seen was a fat cow. its something u dont want to start bc once u do ..ur life as u know it is over.

OK well when I saw the phrase "I was thinking of starving a little bit", red flags went up. starving yourself is dumb and you know it. actually, what you're doing isn't starving yourself-- it's almost (but not really) healthy.
the reason you aren't seeing results is because I don't think you know HOW to eat and excercise healthily. what you need to do is really think about the types of food you are putting into your body. how many calories? how much fat? how many carbs? (those are the things you have to watch out for.) keep a food diary for a couple of days; that'll show you exactly what it is you where your problems are. those bites you're taking at lunch? what are they? are the something substantial, or are they chips that are nothing but bad bad bad? another thing that you have to be concious of is the fact that after a few hours, your body enters starvation mode. this means that if you don't eat enough, you actually GAIN weight because your body thinks there isn't enough food, so it stores up everything it can when you do get to eat. (this is why it's a good idea to eat breakfast.) full blown anorexics don't have to worry about starvation mode because their bodies never have anything to process, so nothing can ever be stored. THIS IS BAD.
about excercise: the best thing for weight loss is to burn more calories than you take in (as long as you're doing it in a healthy and moderate amount). if you don't play a sport-- get into one. I find tennis and ice skating to be two excellent ways to burn calories without becoming extremely bored. take a few lessons in something that you find interesting... the calories (and the pounds!) will be melting away.
girl, you're 14, you're not going to grow a lot. keep drinking that milk, but don't expect it to make you 6'4". besides, you're already plenty tall.
good luck, and DON'T STARVE!!! there are lots of people out there in the same situation as yourself. tell a friend about your goals. she'll understand.

Here are some of the things that can happen to you with anorexia:
* Abnormally slow heart rate and low blood pressure, which mean that the heart muscle is changing. The risk for heart failure (and death from a heart attack) rises as heart rate and blood pressure levels sink lower and lower.
* Reduction of bone density (osteoporosis), which results in dry, brittle bones.
* Muscle loss and weakness.
* Severe dehydration, which can result in kidney failure (and eath).
* Fainting, fatigue, and overall weakness.
* Dry hair and skin, hair loss is common.
* Growth of a downy layer of hair called lanugo all over the body, including the face, in an effort to keep the body warm.

Exercise and sensible diet really are the answer - and loving yourself and your body as it is.

Yes it is! If you starve yourself you may lose weight, but once you start eating again it can come back faster and you can even end up gaining more! Eating many small meals throughout the day actually SPEEDS UP your metabolism. You risk losing hair, hurting organs, mood swings (irritable, grumpy). If you go your local YMCA you may be able to talk to someone about a nutrition plan.

If you are the right weight for your height leave well alone, anorexia as well as the opposite is very bad for you.

dont stave yourself i did that and now im addicted im 5'6 and im about 97 pounds my doctors scared my parents are scared and im scared just eat better food for you and work out

take whatever weight you DO want to lose and turn it to muscle. don't starve, just eat less. then work out. I've been trying to gain weight. I'm 6'1" and 144lb. I have no body fat to work into muscle. so avoid my problem and just work it off.

girl, if your doing everything right i wouldnt worry about it, its a phase in your life, sort of like genetics you cant get away from them, just exercise and make sure you eat healthy, eating disorders can screw up your whole life! and plus would you want to be the girl everyone was talking about becuase you had a eating disorder, and your not alone everyone has thought about it one time or another

mkay....well, i'm 16 and bulimic - have been for almost 2 years. i'll tell u what having an eating disorder is like....

as a bulimic, i have "anorexic" times. bulimia is where u consume large amounts of food - feeling u have no control over it - and purge urself (by vomiting, using laxatives, fasting, crash dieting, exesive exercise) i have done most of these - mostly dieting and vomiting. i have starved myself plenty of times, its horrible but feeling full is worse for me. it feels unnatural and gross and repulsive.

eating disorders are nothing ppl should turn to. mind and body alike get screwed up. its a really messed-up proccess. u dont think the same way as u use to when u practice anorexic and bulimic actions for too long - which doesnt exactly have to be long at all. umm....i'll try to give u an example of how i think when i try to decide on what to eat when i go out with friends:

before i had this problem, i'd stop in front of a place that serves ice cream at my friends' suggestion, and simply pick out what i feel like eating. now, i scan the menu very carefully estimating the calorie count - at this point i have memorized so many of food calorie content its unbelievable - i think to myself which has the lowest amount of calories. also, i think about how i can avoid eating parts of the ice cream - therefore a small cone would be best so that i can hide a bunch of my ice cream in that cone and throw it away. vanilla so there's no extra chocolate or crap getting into my system. i need several napkins nearby so that when no one is looking i can swipe some ice cream in that and throw it away. i then calculate the time and figure out how long i should take to finish this and how i can get to a bathroom alone. so, i will probably eat it fast so my friends are still finishing theirs, and leave to purge quickly and quietly. if purging is not an option because of too many ppl around - even tho it can probably be done quietly - i calculate the time of how long it would take to burn off the calories by walking around in the mall. knowing my BMI and BMR i can have a pretty good estimate, but then i also need to question whether or not i should exercise more and later - just to burn some extra calories. also, fasting for a day or two would be a good idea. maybe later, i could go on a binge home alone to reward myself. but then of course purge all of it out. gotta make sure i have apples around - which are hard to digest and can be set as "markers" basically i eat those first before tackling the unhealthy food, when the apples are purged that means i have gotten all of the other food out.

**this is what i think as i stand before a place that serves ice cream in a food court at the mall. it is thought about as fast as possibl but this is why it always appears i have trouble deciding on things when it comes to food. anorexia will be simular. when i first became bulimic i thought nothin like this would ever happen, but it did. plz dont turn to this and keep in mind that there has never once been a happy anorexic person. they are always miserable.

keep trying to lose weight the healthy way. maybe the scale doesnt go down cause ur gaining muscle? muscle weighs more than fat. if u wanna lose weight fast, cut out the junky foods for awhile - duh. but also cut down on the bread foods, and eat lots of fruits, veggies, and lean meats and some dairy foods. these are healthy and will keep ur body in tip top shape.

1) You're 14. You're still growing.

2) Anorexia is VERY bad. It makes your body shut down and go into starvation mode. It stores fat and burns muscle, not what you want to have done. Eventually your body will be stripped of all nutrients and you'll find yourself looking awful, your skin, nail and teeth looking discolored, your breath and body odor reaking, and your organs WILL slowly shut down.

It's not a very pleasant experience.

You NEED to eat at least 1200 calories each day, more if you're active.

You can't "make" yourself be taller. This is your ONE body. Eat right, exercise and learn to love who you are. Don't try to fool yourself into thinking that if you only ate 300 calories each day and burned 1500 that you'll see the weight just drop off.

I better and healthier way to lose weight is to eat healthy small meals and snacks frequently throughout the day. Most physicians reccomend 3 small meals with two snacks in between.
This keeps your metabolism going, which helps you lose weight.
I strongly suggest NOT staving yourself, even a little, because once you start, it is very easy to eat less and less and less until it becomes unhealthy.
