What is diverticulitis?

Diverticulitis is usually caused from not eating enough fiber in your diet.Getting constipated lots can cause this problem.Eating salads everyday can help and eating Celery first thing in the morning seems to help also.

Diverticulitis is a common disease of the bowel, in particular the large intestine. Diverticulitis develops from diverticulosis, which involves the formation of pouches (diverticula) on the outside of the colon. Diverticulitis results if one of these diverticula becomes inflamed.

If you're awake during a colonoscopy, you'll be able to see how the TV camera on top of the flexible tubing maneuvers through your 25-foot colon and observes whatever is up there. It's a fascinating trip and you can see it all on the television monitor next to the operating table. The most important purpose of a colonoscopy is to find and remove polyps -- some of which are cancerous, precancerous or benign. But the colonoscopy will also snoop out little pockets that form in the colon and that can catch food as the digested and semi-digested leftovers meander down your colon on the way to the commode. If a piece of digested food gets stuck in one of those pockets, it could lead to problems. Many gastroenterologists -- not all -- suggest you stay away from the sort of food that is most likely to land in a pocket -- corn, nuts, etc. If you have diverticulitis, you may want to chew your food quite finely before swallowing. If you get infected, you'll get diverticulosis -- somewhat painful, requiring treatment. See below.

You obviously have access to the internet....SO LOOK IT UP YOURSELF!

diverticulitis: inflammation of one or more diverticula, characterized by abdominal pain, fever, and changes in bowel movements.

diverticula: blind, tubular sac or process branching off from a canal or cavity, esp. an abnormal, saclike herniation of the mucosal layer through the muscular wall of the colon.

let me tell u it is no fun and very painful.
cramps in the lower stomach
some foods get stuck in the little pockets in the colon and
get infected and need attention right now dont wait go to the hospital and they will tell u what is wrong i spent 4 days in the hospital with antis to clear it up no fun i was told never to eat peanut of any other seeds like in tomatoes rye bread with seed they may get stuck and cause all kinds of trouble and make sure u have a colon check good luck it hurts

It's a condition that occurs in the colon. Undigested food collects in the colon forming pockets that get infected, thus the itis on the end of the name. This caused constipation, gas, pain, and reduced energy. Did you look in your dictionary first, or was it easier to type a question in here?
