Wheat allergy?
Just discovred i have a wheat allergy.I miss bread and pasta sooo much and i have no idea what to eat that will fill me up?Any ideas?I am always so hungry because i can't have a sandwich or pasta for lunch! :( x

All you have to do is eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water and you'll be just fine. I have alot of allergies myself. I'm allergic to maple trees and maple syrup. So I can't eat syrup on my pancakes! There's plenty of healthy foods out there. Make sure you have your daily servings of everything your body needs.

Foods made with wheat are staples of the American diet. However, many people are allergic to proteins found in wheat, including gluten. If you are allergic to any wheat protein strictly avoiding wheat and wheat products is the only way to prevent a reaction, which can include stomach upset, eczema, hay fever, asthma and even anaphylaxis. But, it is not always easy to avoid these foods since many unsuspecting products contain wheat. Substitutes for wheat include corn, potato, Barley, oat, Soy and rice flours and arrowroot starch. Buy some gluten free pasta, tescos own is the best i've found! you can get spaghetti, spirals, tubes, lasagne sheets. there's no reason why you can't still have pasta and get filled up!

as for bread i have yet to find a nice bread that you can make a sandwich out of that is wheat free. I was told the gluten free bread mix from Lakeland Limited is great as sandwiches but i don't own a breadmaker so i haven't tried it!

try the coeliac uk website for more information, they are very good and you can buy a food dictionary from them that will tell you what foods are wheat free. if you want any more advice or someone to talk to, just let me know!

I'm allergic too. Really stinks because I'm also a baker. There are many places to find wheat or gluten free products. Any natural foods store or larger grocery store has them. Go to www.glutenfreepantry.com , and they have links on where to buy breads and pastas online in you prefer. Glutino makes some awesome bagels.

Tesco's caters for every diet. My sister has coeliac and she is on a gluten free diet for life. My mother is diabetic and she has to watch what she eats for life. Tesco does a great range of everything.

yeah, try wheat free. its really good stuff. I have trouble eating wheat, and wheat products, that i started using wheat free.
There is a huge range of products out there, its all trial and error to start with, but have fun with trying new things, once you and your body get used to it, you will feel so much better.

just drink a lot of water and eat some fruits!!!

Jacket potato with a nice filling, or rice with meat and non-wheat based sauce? my dad has coeliac disease and he lives off this!

There is a whole section in Tesco's and sainsburys full of non wheat pasta etc- and rye bread is lovely so you can still have the cakes and bread.

There are alot of gluten free foods out there. The grocery stores carry them and health stores. You can eat the same foods, but make sure theyu say gluten free.

In England there are a lot of gluten free breads that you can get on prescription,in my opinion the best ones are:
Juvella bread rolls
Juvella fibre bread,sliced
Glutafin fibre bread,sliced
For pasta try ..Glutafin pasta spirals
pizza bases.....Juvella pizza bases
bread mixes....Juvella fibre mix, this makes a great soda bread.
With the things that I have listed you can see that there are many alternitives to wheat flour,if you write or 'e' mail the various manufacturers they will send you free recipes. One word of advice,if I may give it,buy a prescription "season ticklet" it works out far cheaper! Good luck, you'll soon get used to a gluten free diet.
