I used to work with a guy who had eczema and he claimed that eating a lot of wheat germ helped.

Check out the National Eczema Association site.

They have lots of helpful advice and in the "Product Directory" section they also review numerous well known brands.

Here's the link http://www.easeeczema.org

Good luck

You will need a prescription from your health care provider. Usually a steroid or an immunosupressant. Either way, you need to see your doc. I am not aware of anything over the counter. Best of wishes to you.

Depending on how bad it is, or if it is in fact Eczema there are a lot of things you can do.

There are not a lot of types of eczema that steroid creams do not work on. Did you try a Doctor prescribed cream or just the over the counter version?
There are also creams that contain ureic acid (or uric acid) which is the acid in pee. don't be grossed out though...as far as I know it is not actually taken out of pee.

You may also want to go get checked for allergies. A lot of allergies only cause things like eczema or rosacea (facial eczema) and can simply be cured by removing the allergin from you environment or diet.

You can also try adding a liberal amount of finely ground oatmeal to your bath. This helps sooth the burning/itching of eczema and if you don't scratch it it has an easier time healing.

I do know that sometimes eczema can come from being in contact with a chemical. My friend had it terribly and it turned out that the soap dispensers where she worked were set wrong and the extra strong chemicals in the soap caused hers.
Finding out what sets it off and avoiding that would be number 1 to help with controlling it.
Besides the creams, were there other instructions you were to follow, or things to avoid? Just using the cream may not be enough.
Your dermatologist would be the person to ask about other treatments available. Good luck.

My daughter is six and she has had eczema since she was about a year old. Finally, some relief after trying product after product, constantly making expensive appointments for the dermatologist.
At last, Noxzema is the best. It has cleared up my daughter's pathcy skin in less than two weeks. Yes, its strong but if definitely works. I also didn't even buy the name brand I brought the Walgreens generic and it's working so well for my daughter's skin. It's at least work at try Nozema (cold cream in the blue jar) about $ 3, Cetaphil about $10, Aveeno about $12.

Treat your self internally. Eczema is associated with an abundance of bad bacteria in your lower intestines.

You might want to try taking probiotics like Acidophilus and Bifidus (available at health food stores as a combination approx $10, take 3 a day after meals for a month and see what happens).

Also cut back on foods with lots of sugar, yeast, &/or mold. You should notice a difference after a month--the eczema should disappear. I would also switch from a steroid creme to Zincofax.

go to an dermatoligist an get an ointment instead of a cream, they are much more soothing and work faster in clearing it up!!!

I used to have it when I was younger but I went to the doctor and her prescribed me some cream, and it went away. Go see a doctor.

My son has it very bad, and my doctor recommends baby oil or vaseline applications after baths.
I read yesterday on MedPage (I subscribe to it online) that a successful treatment for eczema was a combination of an antibiotic (a certain one) and a bleach bath (1/2 cup bleach to one full tub of water) was an effective treatment. This is a new finding, and I would discuss it with your doctor to see if he read the same journal.

Try Hydrocortisone cream, you can pick it up at Walmart. It definitely works for me. And don't take really hot showers, that will irritate it.

Better consult a doctor. You can use the creams, but right kind of cream should heal the infection quickly.

The main cause of eczema is overreaction of the immune system. Identifying certain foods, chemicals, etc can be very helpful in battling this disease. I try to avoid soy and milk products which trigger my flare-ups.
After using number of prescription drugs I've turned to the natural treatments.
Now I use herbal remedies from serenaskin.com, which aim at the root of the disease - the immune system, and are steroid-free.
After about 2 weeks of using ointment and spray my skin has been cleared up and now I just continue with anti-eczema extract, which controls the immune system. My skin has been clear for months now.
It is the only treatment I have found that provides me complete relief when I use it as directed.
