What causes acne???? Dirt? Oil?
Is it dirt or oil?

And what chemicals help it? Benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, tretoin ??

Tanya S

oil. use proactive

Whacckkaa :DDD
yea, oil dirt, and bacteria things like that , use witch hazel to get a good clean

both but dont over wash your face because that causes acne too. its also hormones. i have heard that the first two help acne but i have never heard of tretoin. just get on a good acne care system and it should definitely go away. see your doctor if it doesnt!

acne occurs when your pores are opened, and then exposed to dirt and oil. you see, when your pores on your face open, then dirt and oil can get trapped in them, and then oil kind of seals in up and makes it swell. to prevent a lot of oil from penetrating your skin in a harmful way, use a toner after washing your face. this retores the natural pH balance in your skin.

oh no you di'int
both, clogged dirty pores wash your face often

there is more than just dirt or oil that cause acne there are lots of stuff here are some of the stuff that cause acne is : dirt , oil , bacteria , leaving makeup on too long , stress definitely , hormones ,sometimes if you buy acne stuff and use it too much it can make acne worse , too much sugar like chocolate and such. not getting enough exercise , greasy foods .

ways to improve : drink eight glasses of water a day, don't touch your face , find something peaceful so you can eliminate stress , get acne products like clean and clear , get enough exercise . and yes salicylic acid does help acne , and Benzoyl peroxide , im not sure about tretoin . just make sure your not getting things that are too harsh for your skin .

hope i helped :]

Oil is a natural part of the skin. IT DOES NOT CAUSE ACNE!!!

and Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are really good for treating it.

Don't wash your face More than twice a day.
Don't wash your face with bar soap; use a cleanser.
Make sure your face is always moisturized; it is better to have oily skin than dry skin when it comes to acne.

And another thing;
foods like chocolate and greasy foods have not been proven to cause acne; but they do not necessarily help your skin.

Eat alot of vitamin C

It is stress because when you have stress you start sweating and when you sweat your have turns oily. But dirt only makes your face dirty but if you have any such of acne cream can cause more acne. But other wise stress is about only 10% of it it depends on your skin. and there are so much other skins you cant name. two very common are baby skin dry skin.

dirt and oil make up blackheads, its oils from your hair, and oils from your hands. the cause your pores to get clogged up with well, oil. so it clogs them and its really hard to get them out.

stress.. and dirt and oil, and if you eat/work at fast food... i use pharmagel to clear my face and it works.. i tried proactive and it doesnt work on me. one thing that could help, whats improved my face, and alot of people do it, i dont wash my face when i wake up, only before i go to sleep.

im not sure i wash my face everyday and i still have acne..

some make up

here are some helpful sites

Both. Acne is from clogged pores.

If you wash your face with hot water and any it will open your pores and clean it out. Acids take away acne quickly but are harmful to your skin causing redness and dryness.

Drink water not soda to keep the acne from coming back.

Also, if you use face lotion after washing it then your pores will fill with this instead of harmful dirt and oils.

Acne is ususally caused when a naturally occurring Staph bacteria gets out of control. Stress, lack of sleep, poor diet. poor skin care, and many, many more factors allow this naturally occuring bacteria to get out of control and start causing problems with the skin. The bump is where the body is fighting off the Staph infection.

When people take tetracycline for their skin, this drug is used to kill this bacteria.

Best to prevent acne by good diet, plenty of rest, stress control practices, etc. Also, hormones can trigger flare ups becasue it stresses the body.

The most common forms of acne are believed to be caused by clogged skin pores. Some swear that certain foods can cause outbreaks. If you’ve searched the web you’ve likely found much conflicting information, my advice to you is to read it all and use the information to safely guide yourself through some personal lifestyle experiments. Change your diet for a few weeks, exercise or jump in a sauna every other day for a while.

Dirt and oil getting clogged in your pores. keeping you face clean helps. Dont use benzoyl peroxide to often, it can cause wrinkles. epucurin(i think thats how to spell it?) works well

Acne is the term for plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and even deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and even the upper arms. Acne affects most teenagers to some extent. However, the disease is not restricted to any age group; adults in their 20s - even into their 40s - can get acne. While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring. When severe, acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring. Even less severe cases can lead to scarring.
As for the laser treatments...
Its quite expensive, however. A last resort. Many soaps and moisturizers work very well.

It is not dirt and it is not oil, those are myths.

Acne is caused by clogged pores. Every 2 weeks or so your outer layer of skin "falls off" and is replaced with new skin cells. If you are prone to acne, these old skin cells stay on you and clog your pores.

It is more complex than that, but that is the general idea, so don't assume that people with acne roll around in dirt and eat a lot of Pizza...it's not true.

Yes, benzoil peroxide, salicylic acid and tretoin work for acne, it just depends on the person.

In a nutshell the cause for acne vulgaris is a combination of abnormal keratinization of the skin and excess production of sebum(oil in the skin). Androgens(male growth hormones) and genetics are directly tied to sebum production and the keratinization of the skin. Its not caused by poor hygiene although poor hygiene may worsen the condition. Bacteria is not the cause although they may aggravate the condition. I have acne and my skin isn't too oily. Abnormal keratinization of the skin is really the main cause for my acne . Alot of people just blame oil for acne when in actually its just one part of the equation. Some people with dry skin have acne.
Also diet won't cure acne but some foods will raise your insulin production which affects your hormanes and so on. Stress also affects your hormones...so while they aren't the real culprit they are factors you should be aware of. Personally i find that Benzoyl peroxide works the best but it is very drying. So use a moisturizer afterwards. Sometimes what works best for one person may not work as well for another . Give saliclic acid and benzoyl peroxide a try.

Its oil and dirt. Oil is from your hair.

Hormones cause acne.

Laura b
dirt and oil being trapped
even your diet
its also hereditary
my dad never had acne but his brother did
and my mom said she had it real bad when she was my age and so me and my brothers all got it so far

oil trapping dirt
and it may even be linked to stress

not washing your face every day, not showering, maybe your period, oils on your skin, lots of stuff.

Stress. Candy. Dirt. Oil. Neglect of proper care for your face.

What Causes Acne? (copied and pasted)

The exact cause of acne is not known, but the following factors are considered important:

Acne is the visible end result of hormonal, bacterial and inflammatory disturbances that take place at the level of the oil pore (pilosebaceous follicle):
What Causes Acne?

* Acne is the visible end result of hormonal, bacterial and inflammatory disturbances that take place at the level of the oil pore (pilosebaceous follicle):
* As the process advances, greater amounts of oil may be produced within the sebaceous glands, though the change in composition and quality of the oil may be more important than the quantity. The scale produced on the inside walls of the hair follicle becomes stickier, and it builds up and blocks the pore. This shows up as whiteheads and blackheads (comedones).
* The acne bacteria (Propionobacterium acnes) grow and multiply in the retained oil. The sebum acts as a nutrition source for the bacteria, which in turn releases chemicals within the pore. These alert and attract white cells from the blood, and that’s what leads to inflammation. On the skin, the inflammation is seen as pimples or zits (papules and pustules).
* As these inflamed hair follicles (pores) and glands enlarge, the surrounding skin also becomes inflamed and may lead to even larger lumps and cysts (also called nodules).
* Inflammation may damage the cells that make collagen. Less collagen production causes thinning of the skin, which is seen as depressed scars. Occasionally, collagen production will increase, which then causes the scars to become thickened.

Differin, it works!

Dirt and oil clog your pores, causing a pimple. Benzoyl peroxide is the most strongest and best stuff out there for treating your pimples.
Hope I helped!
