I have eczema -- what's the best lotion to use? I find that many make the itching worse!?
I've used Aquaphor, but it's just too oily/messy. Right now I have a non-oily version of Eucerin, but it still iritates me. I know to stay away from any cream with alcohol in it and I have also used different creams with aloe and oatmeal, but it seems to make the itching worse.

This is what you need to do. Switch your shampoo, body wash or soap, laundry detergent and any other cleaning products in your house to non-chemicals. I can help you do that. My aunt had a similar problem as well as a friend of mine and both are perfectly fine now.

Ask your doctor for a script for Mometasone Furoate Crem USP, 0.1% try it. get the cream not the ointment.

My brother had very severe eczema and it looked like if he didn't have any skin when he was a baby (on his cheeks only) we used many creams but the best one was E45... have you tired it?
Hope this helps...
PS: my brother was a baby and we had to put socks on his hands to prevent him from scratching, hope you don't that done to you! Joking :D

I sometimes get eczema too, the best thing of all to do is go to your GP and let s/he see to it, they can give by far the best ointments and creams.
My advice to you would be to make sure that something in your diet or everyday life (for example washing powder) isn't causing the eczema, my eczema inflames when I use biological washing powder. The best cream that I have found is Sudo cream, which you can buy from Boots and other leading pharmacy's, other good creams can be bought over the counter at pharmacy's, once I bought Hydrocortisone Cream (Hc45 product) and this dramatically improved my skin!

Good luck with the eczema!

I had to come and see what others said,,I have it also but only on the palms of my hands...

Did you go to a Dermatoligist for it?? I did and she gave me a perscription for Clobetasol Propionate cream that is ok but still itches...I also had one for Fexofenadine (that is in pill form and helped but I am out of them and didn't get refills)

GOOD LUCK,,,I will come back to see other info
I guess lots has to do with where you have it ..

Get DML lotion from drugstore.com. Hypoallergenic, fragrance free. It is hands down the best moisturizing lotion out there, and you can use it on your face, too. My dermatologiest recommended it to me, and I haven't used anything else since then.

Jenny
use cortisol or zincolfax. both work amazing.

I was at a county fair this summer and bought some emu oil that I have been rubbing on the exzema on my elbow at night.
I seems to help with the dryness and would probably do better if I used it more than just once a day.
They have some with aditives for different problems.
Just do a search for emu oil and there is a place in Ottawa, Illinois that sells it.
They save the oil from emus that are being butchered for meat.

some lotions can be irritating to the skin which when it comes in contact to the skin can trigger flare ups.

all you need is an all natural skin care moisturizer that will help moisturize the skin all day and night, protecting it from any damage and irritants as well as can promote skin healing.

try to not to scratch the infected area even if itching unbearable. keep the skin hydrated by drinking lots of water. have proper diet to boost immune system in fighting the disease. try not to wear rough and scratchy clothes and make sure that clothing is not tight. try to avoid skin irritants and perfumed skin care. make sure the foods you eat are considered healthy. watch out diet. do not do things that can easily make you sweat.

My four year old son has eczema and I took him to an allergist who told me to not use anything scented when we wash his clothes and to double rinse. He also said to use aveeno body wash and lotion(skin relief w/out menthol) right after his bath. Within 2 days of following these instructions he cleared up and hasn't had a breakout since, and that was 2 years ago. Of course I still do this every night. Also try using Tide Free and Clear. It has no perfumes, dyes, or allergens in it. Try to avoid using anything scented. I hope this information helps.

Have you tried Body Butter with shea butter from The Body Shop? I use it (not for eczema, just for average dry, itchy skin.) I saw a friend use it on her baby w/ eczema. Non-irritating, very mild and non-greasy! Their web site is: www.thebodyshop.com

try applying zole cream.

Renew Lotion by Melaeluca is the best I've ever used! Not greasy at all but still keeps your skin really moist. We tried everything from Cetaphil, Eucerin, Aquaphor, Jergens, Johnson & Johnson, & more. Renew is the best!

Try Eucerin Calming Creme. I have eczema on my arms, it's sooo itchy! I use the Creme right after showering in the morning, and at night. Also, this is going to sound crazy, but a few years ago my doctor told me to go to the tanning bed to get rid of my dry patches. I have a slightly darker complexion, so my patches are white and scaly. Using the creme and going to tan has really helped!

Also, try switching to all natural soaps. Burts Bees has good stuff.

The best natural remedy for eczema is from http://www.champori.com It is steroid- , alcohol-, and perfume-free, and it cleared my condition in just under 3 weeks. The itching subsided after the very first application. Try it. (if it doesn't work for you - it's free: just return it for money back)
Best,
Bernadette
