My mother hasn't smoked in 7 years. She just started again. How can I get her to quit?

in a way that she quit first time,is all depend on her

when she's sleeping take sardines and rub them on the filter part of her cigarettes.. they'll taste so bad she'll never want to touch them again

Lux Aeterna
Tell her you love her, and don't want to see her losing her health over those death sticks. And then support her all the way through...quitting can be the hardest thing to do.

Be blunt. Remind her that it will kill her. Or at least make her sick but either way... Tell her to try whatever it was she did before to stop. Maybe you should find out why she started again? Is she going through a crisis right now? Maybe talking to her about it is all she needs.

tell her she need to quit for 10 years before she has no risks of develpoing lung cancer. My Mom died of lung canceer 10 days after the diagnosis. My fatheer in law had quit for 10 years and he still died of lung cancer. Tell her how much you love her and do not wish to visit her grave like I now have to do. My MOm was only 51.

Ask her why she started and what she wants to do. There are many different methods to use. The nicotine patch, gum, inhaler, lozenges, nasal spray, and Wellbutrin (aka Zyban). Oh and cold turkey, It may be easier for her to quit this time since the duration of smoking is less than before. The real key is whether she wants to or not. Good luck.

Mind your own buisness. She is your Mum, your not her's.

Not everyone who is born really lives.

show her a graphical movie about the effects of smoking on your life and body
these can be found at the library

Show her pictures of people's lungs who smoked their whole life. It's all black and barbequed.

Jackie Boy said it best though: "You know it's truuuuuuuuuue, nobody ever really quits. A smoker's a smoker when the chips are down."

If she has given up smoking before, perhaps this is only temporary. She might be worried and stressed about something. When this passes she will give up on her own. So be patient.

talk with her and passing some times with her. be more responsible to your mother. take these as a routine work

Tell her she will die...plain and simple! That should scare her!

Tell her that it's very dangerous for health... 7 years without smoking! She mustn't give up now, Try to understand why she did that

Cough, cough, and cough some more. That's what I do if someone near me lights up. They get annoyed with me but I get my point across. I get more annoyed with them for the harm they could cause me. I make it my business to stay away from smokers. Let her know how it's hurting you to see her smoke after giving it up for so long. If you love her lots, talk to her. After all, she is your mom.

Show her a picture of a blackened liver and ask her if she wants to stay alive to see her grandkids grow up.

First off you can't make her quit, she needs to see a doctor for this, to assist her with what the reason is that she picked the smokes up again after such a long time with out. There are medications that are available to assist her also but do NOT nag her this will only add to her frustration and possibly the reason she picked them back up again.
The one thing you can do is call your local hospital or American lung Association, www.lungusa.org they can also send you information and let you know where to find a smoking censation class. Let her know that you will support her in her going to this class, and that if she wants you would like to go with her.
Let her know you love her and want her to be around for your wedding, grandchildren and etc that it really means alot to you.
Let her know you heard this from an ex-smoker who went back and quit again, and at this time I'm awaiting a lung transplant.
Nobody thinks it will happen to them.

Why not just tell her you will miss her greatly and try to paint the scene of all the family attending her funeral because she got cancer and later in life you too become sick from second hand smoke because of her? be graphic, at least make her think about her choices?

Tsvetelina Dinkova
Ask her whay she start again.Find the reason and after that tell her to make sankalpa. This is some words witch you tell on you every morning and night. Its something good, but some peole use this like they tell "I will not smoke" and they reapet this.I hope will help:-)

By showing and letting her feel you CARE.probably she is depressed.

Talk to her about it..maybe she's having problems
and if that does NOT work then trow all her cigarettes away and buy her those patches...so she can get a hint
