I think I have asthma, but my mom won't take me to get it checked out?
I think I have excersise induced asthma, because about a minute into running, I can barely breath and my chest hurts. It goes away after about 15 minutes (after I'm done running).I've told my mom and she says its normal to have shortness of breath while running.Im 12.What should I do?

Pretend that you're really sick, like not the flu or a cold or anything make up some symptoms and be like "mom I think you should take me to the doctor"
And then when you get there ask your doctor if you can get tested for asthma
I do it all the time when my mom won't let me get things tested

Little sock
Get some exersising videos and tell your mom head to head that you think you have ashma beacuse I can hardly run or use deep breaths after running that will get air into your lungs

There are a few home remedies for asthma attacks if you should ever need to use it. Drinking a cup of coffee while youre having an attack will help you breathe better because of the hotness and the caffeine in the coffee.
Another is, drape a towel over your head and turn the hot water on in the sink and breathe the steam while youre trying to relax your body. The towel will help to keep the vapors near you kinda like a sauna
Asthma really isn't something that is dangerous to your health unless you have frequent and severe attacks.
Its normal to have shortness of breath after running for a minute or more. Your heart pumps rapidly when you run, and uses up your oxygen. Your lungs compensate by making you breathe harder and take in more oxygen.
Also if youre overweight or out of shape you'll be out of breath even faster.

why won't she take you to see a doctor she really has to really?

Your mom is taking this too lightly as exercise induced asthma can be very dangerous. If you mom wont take try going to see the school nurse and maybe she can talk with your mom.

Good Luck

Your mother is not a doctor right? then do not trust her assumption, get to a doctor immediately.

It is normal to have shortness of breath while running but it shouldn't last that long. It is possible that you are simply out of shape (like the rest of us) and you need to work slowly up to running. Start with walking, then jogging, making sure that you warm up before each.
Keep bringing the matter up to her respectfully and maturely. It could also help if you keep working on getting fit, it gives you more bargaining power when you can show your mom that you are taking the initiative and not just complaining. Perhaps one of these times she will listen.

if your sure you have asthma you should tell your mum she doesnt care about you becuase asthma can be a big killer, try going swimming and see how far you can swim underwater if you cant get very far at all and are breathing very heavily when you come up then its likely you have asthma

Maybe you could go to your school nurse to get checked out. If she thinks there's a possibility you have athsma, she will talk to your mom and recommend taking you to the doctor. Your mom might listen to an adult professional even though it doesn't sound like she's listening to you.

And by the way, being out of shape is different from athsma...you should be a bit out of breath, or breathing hard, if you're running, but with athsma it's more like you CAN'T breathe. I thought I was just out of shape (even though I was exercising regularly) for a long time before I was diagnosed with exercise-induced athsma. Now, with my inhaler, I will be breathing heavily when I'm running but I'm actually able to breathe.

It's normal to be a little fatigued after running for long periods of time. However, it is NOT normal to have shortness of breath and chest pains after a minute of running. I have been asthmatic since I was a year old, and that is exactly how I feel when running without treatment. Since I was a year old I've had an in home nebulizer that I use when my asthma gets really bad. Also, once I became old enough to understand, and began playing soccer and field hockey my doctor gave me a rescue inhaler to use before, and after the games or practices, and during them if needed again.

You really need to talk to your mom again. What you're feeling is not completely normal and may in fact be exercise induced asthma. If this is the case your doctor would probably give you a rescue inhaler or some other type of medication that will make it easier for you to breath while running. Difficulties breathing and chest pains are not something to be taken lightly, especially when you're only 12 years old. Talk to your mom again, and see your doctor.

Hope this helps. Good Luck! :-)

You would be REALLY SHORT OF BREATH, that wouldn't go away so quick. Think of a fish out of water, the deeper you try to breath the more you can't, and it gets tighter, and tighter. The next time you have a check up, ask your Dr. to explain what to watch for. It sounds like your Mom is right, but if you ever get to the point of not being able to "catch your breath", its time to get a medical opinion. Don't breathe so HARD when you run, and slow your pace!
