I'm 27 years old and lately I've been waking up with heart burn. What can be causing this?

You need to see your GP as there are several things which can cause heartburn. You may need some tests to find out what is the cause & the best treatment. You will probably need medication - your GP might want to try this first.

Possibly eating late at night? Try not eating after 8pm. I have to do this to prevent waking with a stomach ache.

Well assuming you not been drinking a lot of alcohol .. most probable reason is acid reflux from stomach causes burning feeling in oesophagus.,, Might be that laying down and posture makes the valve at top of stomach relax or you might even have a hiatus hernia ,, Also you might be creating excess acid in your stomach.. All these things can be treated OK Gaviscon should give prompt relief but might be an idea to see doctor for a few tests ,, You might need to take an acid reducing medication .. A proton pump blocker ..You can be checked for things like stomach ulcers too . me .. j r

Try changing your diet. Food intolerances happen at any time. Common food allergies and intolerances are gluten, milk, eggs, nuts. Food intolerances cause heart burn way more than people think. Eat more fresh (not cooked) fruits and vegetables. This will help reduce the acidity of your body (they cause the body to become more alkaline). Do a search for alkalizing foods online and try to eat more of them and less acidic foods. This should clear up your heart burn.

I am about the same age and have been having the same issue! Do you drink alot of wine?

More than likely your diet flower.

wierd and wounderful world of me
stop eating fatty foods as this is what causes it, it is when the stomach acid over fills pretty much is its all down to bad diet

If you are eating, Spicy foods. Then that can be a cause.

Now there are other reasons. I have had this, and still have it, and I am 14 years of age.

Achalasia can cause heartburn
Acid Reflux can cause heartburn.
G.E.R.D.S can cause heartburn.
Spicy Foods
Take out foods.
Eating less than 1 hour before bed can all cause heartburn.

Any kinds of acid coming out of your stomach into your esophagus can cause Heartburn. Try to sleep evalated for a bit. Like 3 - 4 pillows up. It will prevent the heartburn. Gaviscon, Tums and Rolaids help assist to ease the pain.

If the heartburn episodes do not end, ask for Prevacid prescription. Thats a strong preventor medication.

Also ask your doctor. They know how to diagnose the problem. Ask them before the prescription idea! That way you can see if there is a diesease or illness causing it.

Hope you have some relief soon. i know how it feels. Its horrible. Enspecially if its early morning hours it wakes you up. (( 3 am. Never good for monday mornings.))

Anyway use the pillow idea till u can have a doc's appoint ment. ^^

It's usually caused by a moderate to high fat diet. Try eating less fatty foods and make sure you haven't had anything to eat for at least an hour before you go to bed.

It's caused by something irritating your stomach, which then comes back up (a bit) when you lie down.

There have been a number of possible food suggestions by Answerers to your question already, even foods such as wine. But only you know what you have been eating lately that may be causing this.

Try keeping track of what you eat and when you experience the problem. Vary your food and drink until it becomes clear what the culprit is. Then you can eliminate or reduce the food(s) causing it. Don't be surprised if it's a food you really like!

(In my family, caffeine seems to cause it, e.g. tea, Coka Cola...)

Try and get some gavascon (cant spell it sorry)
Or go to the doctor to find out!

What kind of food are you eating?

Hey =]

Heartburn is a symptom of the reflux of acidic stomach content back into the esophagus ( aka gullet or food pipe) and chronic gastroesophageal reflux (Heartburn) can lead to inflammation of the esophagus, scarring, and even precancerous or cancerous changes within the esophagus. When heartburn occurs at night, it is considered to be suggestive of a more serious or advanced form of reflux disease.
Here are a few good ideas to try out to ease the sypmtoms...

If you smoke, cut down or stop.

Less fizzy drinks and ones with artificial colours and flavours. Try drinking water, tea, coffee etc. instead. Also, cut down on the alchohol if you drink.

If you have persistent heartburn, your doctor can advise you about both the lifestyle alterations and medical therapies that would be of greatest benefit for you.

Hope you feel better soon =]

Your esophageal spinchter wont close so you have heart burn. See a doctor you need some heartburn medicine. Heart burn can cause the lining of your stomach to erode away if not treated.

Try to sleep with a second pillow so that Your head is higher.
You may have Gerd. Reflux disease.
