Everytime my friend bends down her knees crack, and that's been happening for 6 years. Will she get arthritis?
I have a friend, who whenever she bends down, her knees crack. I asked her how long she has been doing it, and she said since 2003! But she can't help it. Will she get arthritis in them? Considering she's only 12?

Cutie4Life - the cracking means that her knee joints are not lubricated and yes, it could lead to problems for her in the future. This is usually caused by a vitamin deficiency, specifically the water soluble B Vitamins. Water soluble vitamins are not stored in the body, so the body uses them quickly and they need to be replenished daily.

Tell your friend to take Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) several times a day. She should get either 250 mg or 500 mg tablets and take one tablet 2 or 3 times a day (like one after every meal).

Also, recommend that she takes a multi-vitamin tablet daily and also a B-Spectrum (Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12) daily.

One more thing, tell her Niacinamide, not Niacin. Taking Niacin will cause her to have a Niacin Flush (sort of like a "hot flash," which, while in only lasts about 5 minutes is not very pleasant).

EDIT/UPDATE ON June 12th

Please, you and your friend should check with your parents before buying or taking any medications, even vitamins!

if she is concerned, she can ask her doctor. have her parents make an appointment.

If she is active in sports or physical activity that involves the joint, it is very likely that she will develope arthritis. Arthritis is more common than most people acknowledge in teens. It could also be a meniscal degeration, chondromalacia (runners knee) or something of that sort. Physical therapy is benefitial if she wants to help with the pain and play sports in the future
Best of luck

Well, I'm no doctor, buy my knees have been cracking and popping since I was about 9yrs old. I am 43 and I have osteoarthritis so bad in my knees and back that I am disabled.
I'm not sure of anything I could have done differant to avoid this, maybe your friend could mention it at her next doctors appointment and they can reccommend some kind of supplement for her to start taking. Please don't take advise about any kinds of meds on here without asking a doctor first!
Good Luck!!

Thanks for asking this question! I've been wondering this myself for years, because this happens to me too! I'll be watching for the answers you get.
I've been told by some people it's due to a bad die that causes bad joints around the knees. Not sure if that's true or not!

MORE THAN LIKELY SHE WILL DEVELOPE ARTHIRITIS AT SOME POINT. BUT JUST BECAUSE HER KNEES CRACK AND POP IS SOMETHING ALOT OF CHILDREN DO, THEIR BONES AND CARTALIDGE IS STILL FORMING. IF IT CONTINUES I WOULD SEE AN ORTHOPEADIC DR TO SEE IF IT NEEDED TO BE SCOPED. THAT IS WHEN THEY GO IN AND CLEAN OUT BEHIND THE KNEE CAP, BUT USUALLY NOT AT THAT YOUNG OF AN AGE. HOPE THIS HELPS
