What is the best Air Purifier to buy?

I Love You Man
It really depends on your needs and how much money you have. The ionic filters don't cost as much in the long run (no replacement filters) but they're very expensive up front.

The regular HEPA purifiers are still considered to be the best, but replacing the HEPA filter can be expensive. Depending what brand you get, they can cost between $100-300! However, this is usually only 3 years, for most of them. The pre-filters (they're black mesh, usually) are less expensive and are usually changed every 6 months.

I've used Enviracaire purifiers, the highest rated when I bought them, with good results. Holmes also makes some good portable ones. I have never tried out the Oreck purifiers.

Another alternative if you have forced hot air heat is to install a whole house filter, OR to add one to your current furnace. This only needs one filter and cuts down on replacement costs, though the filter itself will cost at least $400. Lennox offers these, both alone and with new furnaces.
