Question about smoking cigarettes?
Very occasionally, I have a cigarette. I always feel light headed, clumsy and vague afterwards, almost like I'm drunk. Why is this?

Your body isn't used to having nicotine and tar in your system.

This is because of the nicotine in the cigarettes. They make you addicted and have a euphoric effect on the body.

alex g
Well, at first, when you try a cigarette, you always think it taste bad or something. After a while, you'll want another, then another. If you just begun smoking, and you are feeling light headed, then it's the nicotine, it's finally getting to your brain, and your brain takes it in as a soothing feeling.

If you ask me, stop smoking. It'll make a better world :D.

stop while you can! i started as a light smoker and got stressed out and got addicted and now i can go threw half a pack on a bad day.

CLTN85
It's a nicotine high. I used to smoke, not alot--maybe 3-4 a day, and occasionally I would get a nicotine high when I smoked my first cigarette of the day.

The reason is because nicotine is a psychoactive drug which releases a flood of dopamine, which gives you that wierd, "drunk" feeling.

thinksmart101
it is because there is tar and nicotine in cigarettes you should definitely stop smoking

There's more technical stuff to it but anything that is that potent of a stimulant alters your nerves, blood vessels, and sense of balance, etc.
Just like having too much to drink.

just dont do it if u canr handel it

cupidgirl.
because when you rob your blood of oxygen & put chemicals in it instead it makes you feel a little messed up

its the nicotine getting to you stop while you still can.

owenjoyner
its a nicotine high, and if you smoke regularly your body adjusts to the chemicals and the buzz goes away.

most people get that effect.

Daron M.
Because you are not getting enough air. The smoke in a cigarette is filled with tar, amonia, and 200 other chemicals. Your bronchial tubes might be constricting because the smoke might be irritating it. When I used to smoke I felt the same way, its called a cigarette buzz. Stop smoking seriously. I quit after three years, it was the best thing I have ever done in my entire life. I can run, breathe etc. If you do not want to feel so light headed, sit down and take gentle puffs. Dont hit it like a joint.

klynn3777
Your body isn't used to all of that stuff that you are putting into your body. That's definitely not healthy for your body and I hope you know that. I doubt that that's a way that you would like to live also.
I Hope I helped!
God Bless!

It's a combination of the nicotine, and of the carbon monoxide which constricts the blood vessels in the brain. Both way bad for you.. and eventually, deadly.

singlebelovedangel20
Because your not used to the chemicals in it I am a light smoker and even now and then i get that way and I asked my dad whom works in the medical field and it's because of the chemicals

Island Queen
It's your body trying to defend itself. AND WHY IN DA HELL would you continue to do it, if this happens? If every time you drank milk, you broke out in hives and got diarrhea, would you continue to drink milk?

Andy
because the of the nicotine in the cigarette. It is a drug that makes you feel light headed, much like from drinking or smoking cannabis, except nicotine isnt as strong as the THC drug in cannabis, so the effect isnt as strong.

because you smoke it occasionally.
its like every smoker that smokes everyday if they get up like 7am & smoke like at 12pm they will get light headed.
why i have no clue, but it always happens to me & my friends.

soph and morg
I think that you should stop smoking because one, you can die from smoking from inhaling smoke, and two, if it makes you fell weird, why do you still smoke? You NEED to stop. Smoking is the worst thing you can do to your body. Try stopping for at least 1-3 months and see what you feel like. My cousin stopped and she felt like she was having like 20 packs in an hour. If you do feel like that solve this problem besides smoking.

Maybe you should stop?

A Landers
The smoke blocks oxygen to the brain.

Stay away from those things. They are extremely addictive. before you realize it, you will be hooked.

asdfghjl
cause your dumb enough to smoke. i recommend stopping all together.

The pimitive brain in the brain stem is automatically keeping you alive. If you float chemicals to it it has to adjust the chemically formed progams for balance, vision, heart speed and many more. You make it adjust then make it adjust back. If you keep smoking you will offset new chemicals arriving daily and actually defend against them. Like the depression chemical or pain response chemicals. It becomes necessary to give it the nicotine to keep the new programs going ok or you get hungry, loss of balance, nervous and easily depressed

Corraline
It's depriving your brain of oxygen.

DaYdReAmR
JUST SAY NO. because your body doesn't respond well with cigarettes. you should stop smoking.

WeWillRockYou
just don't smoke...

its just a nicotine high. people who smoke regularly don't get this anymore, so you are lucky :]

nsdamage
It deprives your brain of oxygen. Quit while you're not addicted.

Nicotine:
Nicotine's mood-altering effects are different by report. First causing a release of glucose from the liver and epinephrine (adrenaline) from the adrenal medulla, it causes stimulation.
Nicotine-rich blood passes from the lungs to the brain within seven seconds and immediately stimulates the release of many chemical messengers including acetylcholine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, vasopressin, arginine, dopamine, autocrine agents, and beta-endorphin. This results in enhanced pleasure, decreased anxiety, and a state of alert relaxation.
Nicotine appears to enhance concentration, and learning due to the increase of acetylcholine. It also appears to enhance alertness due to the increases of acetylcholine and norepinephrine.
Arousal is increased by the increase of norepinephrine. Pain is reduced by the increases of acetylcholine and beta-endorphin. Anxiety is reduced by the increase of beta-endorphin. Nicotine also sensitises brain reward systems.
