try to watch tv before you go to sleep and just put the sleep timer so it can turn off by itself, maybe the noise of the tv can make you go to sleep... That's how i am, i can't go to sleep with the tv off,it has to be on. If that doesn't work just try tylenol pm one night and see how you feel. Also, try drinking a cup of cold milk before you go to bed.

If you can't sleep then you just need to make a doctors appoint. and tell them that you are having trouble sleeping.

close ur eyes n count up to 1000+

Drink chamomile tea. But, avoid all caffeinated beverages/foods 3 hours before bedtime (i.e. coffee, tea, cola, etc)

Perhaps you can find some useful information in a web search for "how to fall asleep fast".

confused beauty
I have been having the same problem for the past few days.
Drink Herbal tea, or Warm milk.
Maybe some yoga before you go to bed, or work out.
Make sure your room is temperature cooly for you, so you wont over heat.
Have a nice big pillow and a good amount of comfortable blankets.
Pamper yourself, try breathing exercises.
Hope i helped!

If you exercise a little it might help tire you out so you fall asleep faster.

Punch yourself in the face really hard.

be active throughout the day so u can be tired and then take a shower before u lie down and listen to slow music

I was going to tell you lavender, I bought some aromatherapy spray from B&BW a long time ago, I like to spray it on my pillow cases and sheets (it may be you need a stronger smell of lavender, puts me right to sleep). Stop thinking so much too, I bet you have a lot of thoughts running through your head.

Try a bath or Soothing Music

This website is good http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/sleep/

It's all natural (you can find it in the vitamin aisle of Walgreens or any drug store) and your body makes it at night. For some people they don't make enough of it so they buy it as a supplement. I'm surprised no one above suggested it.

Try humming yourself to sleep while laying down. hmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmm hmmmmmm hmmmmmmm

Eat, and exercise many hours before bed. Your metabolism may be going at a fast pace still, which will keep you awake. I read in a magazine that you should stare at something orange. I cant remember what it is about the color but it relaxes your mind. Try wearing orange PJ's or looking at a basket of oranges!

Read More Books!
I've been there. I had trouble with it in college because I would be stressed out from working and I just couldn't "shut my brain off" I guess. And then the cycle would get progressively worse because I started getting stressed out about not sleeping before I'd even go to bed! Do you have that problem or do you just generally not fall asleep easily?

I agree about medicine. I would definitely stay away from any type of sleep aid at all costs because it's not natural and therefore the sleep you get is unnatural as well. I used 1 Valerian Root herbal capsule a half hour before bed and it really helped me. It's just a relaxer I guess. I would take it with a full glass of milk and sometimes even a Calcium + D vitamin too (calcium is a natural muscle relaxer and Vitamin D helps you absorb it better) Sometimes I would add in some light stretching or a hot bath/shower before bed too to just help relax the muscles. I was always told that herbs / Valerian Root are non-habit forming, but I still always tried to never take it for more than a week or 2 at a time. I did once and I'm pretty sure I was immune to it after that for a while.

Also, make sure that your room is not too hot and not too cool. If anything though, it helps to be on the cool side before you fall asleep. It's a lot healthier and you won't wake up stuffy or anything.

Have you tried using background noise? This always helps me fall asleep and stay asleep so that I don't wake up at every little noise my neighbors make! I just run my air purifier in my bedroom as white noise, but you could use a small fan and just aim it at the wall or under your bed if the air bothers you. That really might help once you get used to it.

The lavender smell might help, but the light from the candle would be bad. Ideally, your room should be like a tomb! Light sends subconscious signals to the brain to wake up, so even a night light can affect your sleeping habits. Try to make sure your room is dark.

You could try a lavender sleeping mask. They make scented eyes masks that you can heat or cool and cover your eyes before bed. I never really liked them because they annoyed me, but some people find them really helpful.

They also sell noise machines that I've heard are wonderful. (I never bought one because I didn't want to have to like take it on vacation with me and stuff if I would become dependent on it!) But they just have different background noises like rain, waterfalls, crickets...etc. That might help.

It really does help if you exercise (I personally recommend no later than 2.5 hours before bed time or so) I have always been a runner so that's a quick and easy way to exhaust myself to the point that I HAVE to sleep. But you could try brisk walking if you're not an athlete or get a stationary bicycle or something. Yoga would be great too because it will relax you, but it's also a good workout. Anything is better than nothing!

The real key with sleeping is to just not over think it. If you worry about it, it will become a bigger and bigger problem because your brain will be so used to NOT falling asleep when you want to. Just find things that relax you and go to sleep at the same time each night. If I were you, I would set an alarm to get up at your goal time and just keep following your intended routine until your body gets used to it.

I'm sure it's just a phase. Good luck!

breathing exercises and fantasies. try to forget the ruff day and just daydream until your night dreams come

I have the same problem also, i'm kind of used to it now. but i always have a book beside me in case i couldn't sleep.

- Drink warm milk it

- Watch a movie 2 hours before bed time if you like

- Stop eating 2 hours before you go to bed, makes your tummy rest for the night

- Read. It helps you get tired

- Exercise for 5 minutes before going to bed

- Make sure the lights are off

- Play some relaxing music

Don't think of anything, just make your mind go blank. if you can't, imagine yourself sinking in the mattress :-)

Valerian root is a natural sleep aid / sedative.

Clench your muscles going from the top of your body to your toes. for example, squeeze your hands in tight fists. Do this for ten seconds each muscle, concentrating on nothing else.

I usually do the following:

arms (stretching and holding, flexing)
neck (leaning neck backward)
chest (taking in a deep breath and holding it for 10 seconds)
abdomen (clench your abs)
upper back (pushing your shoulderblades together)
lower back (leaning backward)
butt (clenching)
legs (stretching and clenching)
feet (squeezing toes together)

Take deeeep breaths!

This was a relaxation technique taught to me by a therapist. I love it at bed time because it always calms my down (I haven't done it once without yawning, lol!)

Good luck :)

Eat a banana and do a ritual routine thing before you go to bed!

Take a hot bath before you lay down. You could also eat turkey, there is an ingredient in turkey that helps people fall asleep. Also if you exercise, that should help you relax at night and fall asleep.
