 how do you clean a pillow properly if you think it's infected?

take a deep breath and hold it in as long as you can. then they should go away.

take a big gulp of water, then hold your breath for as long as you can, then hurry up and take another deep breathe and hold it again....that always works for me [=

hold your breath- when the hiccup comes, try and "swollow" it down.

bend over so you can touch your feet with your hands, then while in this position, put a desert spoon full of sugar in your mouth, and wait until it's dissolved, never worked for me, but it might for you, [doubt it though]

Someone told me it has something to do with your glads on your neck. They are all jumbled up and you need to grab you throat and message them gently. True story.

Hold your breath for as long as you can. If that doesn't work try putting your head between your knees and taking deep breaths.

a spoon full of sugar! not the most pleasant but it deffo gets rid of them ;-)

Hold Your breath.
Inhale (or exhale) deeply and hold the air in (or out of) your lungs for as long as you can (but not so long you pass out). If you can, concentrate on quelling the hiccups as you feel them coming. Willpower is everything.

Make yourself burp (if you can).
Done well, this can get any air you might have swallowed out of your windpipe and stop your hiccups. Think of burping a baby right after they've eaten. Jonathan swears by this technique. I've found it physically impossible to make myself burp. But then again, he's a man; burping's like second nature to him, right?

Drink a glass of water in one sitting.
While the water itself probably won't get rid of your hiccups, the act of drinking (like holding your breath) will change, or temporarily stop, your normal breathing pattern and disrupt the pattern of diaphragm spasms, or hiccups. If you do this for long enough, the hiccups should go away.

Breathe quickly (hyperventilation) to get rid of hiccups.
Again, the same principal of breathing disruption seen in the above steps is applied here. Hyperventilating into a paper (never plastic) bag may help you to focus on the breathing enough to stop your hiccups.

Swallow a teaspoonful of dry sugar to get rid of hiccups.
Remember the Mary Poppins song (sing with me now) "a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, the medicine go do-own"? Well apparently she was right. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that swallowing a teaspoonful of dry sugar immediately stopped the hiccups in 19 out of 20 cases.

Some people recommend eating a spoonful of something sticky, like honey or peanut butter, to get rid of hiccups.
Like drinking a glass of water, the substance itself isn't going to stop the hiccups, but the act of eating or swallowing it can disrupt your breathing pattern enough stop the hiccups. Think about it: it's pretty hard to breathe normally while you're trying to swallow a glob a peanut butter, isn't it?

Get spooked to get rid of hiccups.
I'm sure some well-meaning (or not so) person has jumped out and yelled BOO at your hiccuping self at some point. The principle here, again, is to startle you into not thinking about the hiccups, and maybe even force that extra out by making you gasp . . . or scream in terror.
