Feelings of hopelessness, lack of motivation, not wanting to do the things you normally enjoy, feeling worthless, some people cry when they're not sure why it is they are crying.

theres alot of symtoms

If you feel amazing and you don't normally, thats probs not depression.
If your feeling depressed and you don't normally, that probs is depression.

i am emo and i always am sad and emotional i express myslf by poetry and other thiings

It could just be a stage that we all go through, but if you have it all the time then maybe there is a chance that you could be, however there are different kinds of depression. Some you just need to change habits, some you need medication. It depends on your age and what changes are you going through in life. If you have lost a loved one or ended a relations then depression is a normal cycle. But if you have not reason to be depressed and feel so, then you may need to get checked out by a professional to confirm if you need medication or not. I advice avoiding medication if all possible. Most cases of depression is related to currant life events that the person is going through at the time. It could just be a stage.

lack of an appetite, eating disorder, suicidal thoughts, morbid obsession, instantaneous mood swings, anxiety, perfectionism, sudden change in behavior, to name a few. the symptoms vary from person to person, but i'd talk to your doctor. it may seem silly, but if it is depression, which is not unlikely but not likely either (depression is a common mental disease, but not all weird behavior is signs of mental disorders.) you really want to nip it in the bud, before it gets bad, or you will regret it. if you aren't comfortable with your doctor you don't have to talk with them right away, but tell someone you trust. don't try to hide it, rather safe than sorry :3
good luck.

yea. lack of sleep or too much sleep, sadness for no reason or a reason, snappy. All kinds of symptoms.

Intimately right now.

Depression is life!! We are faced with so much crap from the day we are born. We are given shitty tools to deal with this crap. We have to develop better tools. The tools we develop ultimately allow us to feel better about ourselves. Then we realize that feeling better about ourselves isn't really all that we wanted. What we really want is to be realistic, being realistic is super depressing. In conclusion life is a depressing mess unless you lie to yourself.

insomnia, loss of appetite, self-pity, self-blaming (some of the commonly used defense mechanisms), lack of interest to just about anything, lack of energy or vive.

If you're suffering any of these, then there's a big chance you might have depression. Why don't you see a psychologist, counselor. I do think that you could solve your problems, please don't take any medications or antidepressants in that matter because it will worsen the scenario. Good luck!

The Truth
suicidal thoughts. you just need to turn that frown upside down! sing a happy song!

Well first, it's important to note that there's a difference between normal depression and clinical depression. Everyone has a bad day once in a while, but it is not diagnosed as clinical depression unless it has been going on for a while and has caused serious problems.

Psychologists use The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM) to diagnose problems. DSM defines a major depressive episode this way:

Major Depressive Episode

DSM IV Criteria

A) Five (or more) of the following symptoms have been present during the same 2-week period and represent a change from previous functioning; at least one of the symptoms is either (1) depressed mood or (2) loss of interest or pleasure

Note: Do not include symptoms that are clearly due to a general medical condition, or mood-incongruent delusions or hallucinations

1) depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day, as indicated by either subjective report (e.g., feels sad or empty) or observation made by others (e.g., appears tearful). Note: In children and adolescents, can be irritable mood.
2) markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day (as indicated by either subjective account or observation made by others)
3) significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain (e.g., a change of more than 5% of body weight in a month), or decrease or increase in appetite nearly every day. Note: In children, consider failure to make expected weight gains.
4) insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day
5) psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day (observable by others, not merely subjective feelings of restlessness or being slowed down)
6) fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day
7) feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt (which may be delusional) nearly every day (not merely self-reproach or guilt about being sick)
8) diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness, nearly every day (either by subjective account or as observed by others)
9) recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying), recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide

B) The symptoms do not meet criteria for a Mixed Episode

C) The symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

D) The symptoms are not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition (e.g., hypothyroidism)

E) The symptoms are not better accounted for by Bereavement, i.e., after the loss of a loved one, the symptoms persist for longer than 2 months or are characterized by marked functional impairment, morbid preoccupation with worthlessness, suicidal ideation, psychotic symptoms, or psychomotor retardation.

loss of interest in things that usually interest you, feeling lethargic, over or under eating, feeling moody, you want to be alone more than you usually do. ect. ect.
