Do people really believe that fibromyalgia is a real sickness?
Just wondering how people really feel.I have it with oa and ra and is very painful. I just want honesty because if you don't believe, it wont hurt my feelings because I don't know you.

No, No, I stay
Yes, I knew some one with fibromyalgia, she was in so much pain and always tired. It is a real sickness. I can't believe that people would say the people with Fibromyalgia are faking or that is isn't real. How insulting.

I know first hand that it is real--there are things I want to do-that I just can't--i'm not just tryignto get out of things I don't want to do...

while it is true that many people with FMS do not get diagnosed because of inepr medical people.

it is also true that idiotic medical people call any pain fibromylagia--even when the pain is attributed to something else-like arthrits, lymes, or depression, or even lifestyle...

without knowing you-I can't say if i think you really have FMS or not--it is possible that you only have OA and RA or you do really have all 3

Amber C
I believe it is. My grandma has it and she is always in pain. She has had it since she was a kid.

Absolutely I believe it is a real sickness... I'm sure every illness was critisized when it was first discovered and named until further research lead to solid proof and diagnosis of conditions. Fibromyalgia is still relatively new in the medical world and as research progresses I think we will see less critisicm and more support for our condition. I have been living with fibro for about 5 years now and everyone that I talk to about the condition asks lots of questions and is extremely supportive and really wants to understand this condition as it is still new and the public has only really heard about it through the new commercials for Lyrica, which I have not tried.

Jelly Bean
My sister and I both have been diagnosed with it, and we both have oa and ra.

Yes, it is a real disease, and its diagnosis code is 729.1. So don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Yes, I believe. I live with it also. I was diagnosed about 1 yr ago. I'm on Cymbalta. I was on Lyrica and it didn't help much but I've heard several people say they liked it. Lyrica made me gain weight which didn't help my condition. I also go to physical therapy 2 times a week and it helps a little. They teach me stretches, a few strengthening exercises and do massage. They also have a hydro-bed which is very nice. The main thing I have learned that helps is to get as much rest as you can. I have 2 kids so it's not easy but it's essential. I wear comfy shoes and try to stay somewhat active but don't push myself too hard or I'll flare. My rheumatologist suggested yoga which I plan to try. I hope some of this helps. I know it's frustrating but just know you aren't alone.
