what would doctors do in eye exam?

Well, when I usually go to an eye exam, they make me look into this machine that looks like binoculars, they do those infamous eye-test charts, and usually, they give me eye drops, making it hard to read for the rest of the day. If I need a new prescription for my glasses, they'll send me on to another person who will hold different lenses up to my eye. It's no biggie, my next appointment is tomorrow and I'm going to ask about contacts. :)

Depends on your age - but usually you go through a digital eye check where you look at pictures and a computer adjusts lenses to make the pictures clearer, then you are taken through to the optician who gets you to read letter charts & also colour displays. They will also use a light to shine in the back of your eye to check retina health. It's not painful - but you will see all the veins in you eyes. If you are over 30 they will also do an air test to check for early signs of glaucoma. I've had eye checks for years & don't find them bad at all.

PSOs gal
nothing that would hurt you they check your eyes in these machines that you look into. You will need to look at a chart that has letters and numbers about 6 rows and they start off large and get smaller the doctor will then ask you to keep reading off each row until you cant see. You may have done this in middle school. ASDF24f for the first row etc.. Nothing to be worried over.

Depending on why your going in. They have you look through a machine and read off things. As you do that they switch plates and use a flashlight to look at your eyes. They also sometimes will dialate your eyes to see the back of the eye too. Its pretty harmless.

May the Airforce Be With You
They will test how well you can see by having you read small charts with letter, then they will test how much correction your vision need by testing you with a machine that put different lenses in front of your eyes they will also check for problems and abnormalities with different types of other machinery, and if you're doing the really really intense eye exam they'll put this stuff in your eyes that makes you pupils dilate and the doctor will look into them and check them out. BRING SUNGLASSES YOU WILL NEED THEM AFTERWARDS

Perhaps examine your eyes would be the main thing.

the check to see how well you see. you take those letter sign things

At an exam they will look in your eyes to check the pressure to make sure you don't get glacoma, take pictures of the eye balls( doesn't hurt), make you read an eye chart

they put there fingers in ur eye socket the poke a pencil in ur eye

they will ask you to read a board full of letters with different sizes. They will examine you with a telescope inside your retina ( to check of glaucoma or other diseases of the eyes)etc.to determine if you need to wear glasses..none of that test will cause you pain.it my scare you or make you feel anxious if you don't like having people crowd you around or behind you ,getting in your face to examine you.

Try to be clever pupils?

They'll test your vision (make you read off a chart, to see how far you can see)
They'll check for abnormalities (by shining a light in your eyes and looking for visible signs of damage, etc.)

They might put a few drops of liquid in your eye to check for glaucoma, depending on your age and when last you had your eyes tested.

If you go to an optomitrist, he/she will check your ability to see by presenting a variety of screens to which you need to tell which is better focused. You will also have a bright light shone in your eyes with the optomitrist peering through a lense into each eye.
If you go to an opthamaligist, you will get the same exam, plus a very quick burst of air pushed at each eyeball. This is a check for a common eye disease which I can't think of the name of right now. It doesn't hurt at all. Is only a bit startling if you haven't had it done before. Some doctors will also put a dialating drop in each eye, again to check for disease or an other (check with the receptionist about these before going in). If you get these drops, you will be given a pair of dark sunglasses to wear until the drops wear off. (You will not be able to see in the sunlight with your eyes dialated this way without the sunglasses.)
If you have any concerns with any of the procedures, check with the nurse/receptionist before your appointment.

They check your eye pressure to watch out for glaucoma, the test your vision to see if you have any problems seeing and they also check the health of your eyes to monitor problems and/or infections. They check your peripheral vision and monitor for things like cataracts or macular degeneration. They check your near and far vision.

They would examin your your to see how well you see, check the pressure of your eye, dialate your eye to look into the back of your eye to see how healthy it is.
