Should I go to the doctor?
I hurt my ankle badly about a year and a half ago and since then about every two months or less that ankle swells and its sore to walk on. This usually happens if I've done a lot of exercise or walking. Is it just that I'm irritating an old injury or should I go to the doctor about it?

uh ya

DUH! You probably did something to it!

Go to the doctor immediately. It could get worse!

stop walking it wont hurt no more

well duh u should go to a doctor

No! I'm NOT Elton John
Always worth getting it checked out. I broke my ankle some time ago and I still get pain in certain weather. It is always best to go check it out though.

Lowenna M
prob irritating it. take anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen and rest it. if u r still concerned ask the doctor... as that is why they are there

I would go see the doctor so you can find out why it's still hurting so badly.

Becky G
you should go to the doctor now its totally a bad injury that still hurts
you should have gone to the doctor right when you hurt it

Jamie B
go to the doctors. you could have hurt it without knowing.

I would go to the doctor if I was you, it probably is that you are irritating an old injury but it seems like the original injury never healed properly. A year and a half is a long time for a recurring injury and it is better to be safe and sure

For your' own piece of mind I would go to a good orthopedic doc and let him look at it. It sound like your' prior injury was either a stress, strain, sprain or even possible a tear of either tendons, legiments, or possible the achilies tendon. These types of injuries are common in sporting events and they ALL take a long time to heal and are very suseptable to a re-injury with very litle effort. Your main need is to rule out a tear of any of the above as sometimes this requires surgery to fully correct. In the mean time I would wear a good ankle wrap or support when exercising and do not overstress the ankle..PAIN is the body's way of telling you something is wrong. You say the injury was over a year ago but that type of injury is still able to flare up if you overdo it. Be safe,,,get it checked out...

it probably is irritation of an old injury, but if it is causing you pain then yes go to the doctor.

Wel,instead of being worried, you better go to see what really happened so that you can be peacefull about your health.

yes go to the doctor

i would just to check they may be able to sort it out its worth it

Before it cost you much more go to the Doctor. It is in a bad condition. By the time time being don't try heavy exercises. And after Doctor's opinion try to follow that.

go to doctor

Consult the doctor.

Do go to the doc.

I think you should let the doctor take a look, maybe he will find something and cure it.
Just explain the doctor what you told us.

You need to get to a doctor and request a scan/xray. This sounds like either you have some nasty damage to your tendon or you chipped a bone and have a piece floating around in your ankle, which causes the swelling when you do strenuous activity. My ex had something just like that and wouldn't go - now 2 years on he's been to the docs and had to have several large surgeries to correct the fact that he has pieces of bone floating around. Something like this should always be seen to as soon as possible, the longer you leave it the worse it gets.

this happens to a friend of mine on a regular basis (he broke his ankle severely).
He went back to docs & consequently has returned to physio. He now has a physio routine to do at home which seems to have helped a lot.

I definitly think you should go to the doctor, that's what they are there for. They will give you the best advice & although they may not be able to do anything in particular, they can advise you on anti-inflammatory medication etc & possible exercises to help etc.

hope u feel better soon x

Go to the doc. You might have a bit of chipped bone in the joint.

Sounds like you did more damage than you realised when you hurt it ... possibly even a small fracture that has healed without treatment. Failing that, it seems the injury has brought out underlying arthritis or the like. The exercise suggests that may be so. Yes, doctor's advice would be good as the matter keeps reappearing. Clearly, the swelling suggests trauma and that needs to be defined. Good luck ...
