How do you deal with a housemate who insists on having the central heating on maximum all day.?
I wake up sweating in the middle of the night, turn it off, hoping that he is asleep but soon as I curl up in bed, he turns the bugger on again. I have tried talking to him but he insists his room is cold.

sleep in the freezer :)

i have the same problem with my other half, but i just turn it off and tell him to put on a jumper if its cold.

Have you checked the radiator in your housemates bedroom, if it is not functioning properly this may be a problem and the radiator will need bleeding, or there are also no gaps in the window.

you have to tell him that heating is causing you problems with sleeping properly and that it will also cost more to have the heating on full blast constantly, if he insists that he wants more heat tell him that he can buy an electric blanket or a portable heater but these will use a lot of electricity.

The Wail of a Banshee
Put your heating on a pay meter that way he will have to fork out the extra if hes cold .He will soon stop turning it up when he sees how much he shelving out .

Get him to visit his GP there could be a medical reason for his coldness. I had the heating on high all the time before i was diagnosed with under active thyroid

Turf him out and get a different housemate

Turn the radiator off in your room and open the window.

I had a roommate that did the same thing. It drove me nuts. Tell him to go buy a heater or he has to take care of the electric bill from now on.

Or, duct tape something over your vents in your room to keep the hot air from coming in.

And still tell him he needs to fork over extra cash for the bill. That's NOT FAIR to you.

WHAT ABOUT SWITCHING ROOMS? If he puts up a stink about that, then tell him it's a room switch, or no heat!!

Buy him a big jumper and another duvet. Get the central heating bods round and get the level fixed at a rate you like then he cannot alter it.

Give him the bill to pay.

Tesco - very little help

He needs to put a sweater on to stay warm. Central Heating is bad for you and should only be used when it's very cold. I hate to have my central heating on.

Being too hot is bad for your health as well. It's better to be a little cooler and have some good ventilation.

If his room is cold then he should get some thick curtains to put up in front of the window and add an extra duvet, blanket and get himself a hot water bottle. Being too hot in bed is especially bad for the health.

If he was my housemate I'd throttle him!

You could always investigate into getting some thermostatically controlled radiator valves so that you could turn yours off at night and he could keep his on if he totally refuses to turn it off.

I can't understand how anybody can be cold in bed if they have enough blankets!

u just need to talk seriously about it. look, i get sick when it's that hot. u can put another cover on or get a space heater, i can't if it's too hot. u both pay, u both play, ur opinion is just as important.

Give the bounder a damn good thrashing!

Make sure that his heater vents are open in his room. If so, close yours and 'crack' your window.

Well there needs to be some sort of compromise where he can get more blankets and sleep comfortable, etc. In no situation can it be all or nothing when you are sharing living space with someone else! . . .Keep in mind his room may be cooler. See for yourself, if possible. Also, he could always get a small space heater for his room to add extra comfort, or likewise perhaps you could get a small fan or air cooler. . . .Leave the heat on somewhere in the middle of what you both like. Also, see if there is any way the land lord may know of that you could switch the heater off from your room, some times that's possible. . . . You both need to have a good attitude when going into situations like this, so best of luck!

Buy him a hot water bottle,it's a waste any way having it on all night,I say the same at home theres no need for it to be on.

why not just get this person a space heater for their room, then they can be as hot as they want but you can adjust the central temp

Shannon Michelle
Sit down and come to an agreement. Leave the temp at something that is tolerable for the both of you ( between 65-75) and suggest he buy a space heater from Walmart or something.

You both need to respect each others wishes if you are sharing a living space.

Open the window in your room, and ask them to pay the bill. Don't fight.
