Fell and hit my head...should I be concerned?
So yesterday afternoon, we had our first pep rally of the year. The student council decided that having the senior football players smash watermelon would be "fun". So I'm on the dance team standing in front of my class while watermelon pieces go everywhere. Then people in the bleachers start running out of the stands, so I start running too and I slipped on the watermelon and fell backwards and hit my head against the gym floor, like right above my neck, sorta in the middle of my head. I didn't black out or anything but it just hurt like crap.

So today, all day, it's felt like I've had a serious headache all day, that advil won't even help, and my neck is stiff and I can't hardly move it without my whole head throbbing.

Should I be concerned about this and maybe call my doctor, or will it possibly go away?

it will go away
drink some water
dont have too much panadol orwhatever

when you get hurt it doesnt go away instantly

I think you'll be fine, but if you start getting really sleepy its serious =) feel better xx

You seem like your fine but It can't hurt to get it checked out.

Just go to your doctor and get it all checked out but you should be ok but check out this and it will change your life for ever

See what happens then if it gets any worse you should definitely call your Doctor. Hope it heals soon though. :)

I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I would suggest icing down your neck/head if its difficult to move. Give it another day or two, if problems persist make an appointment to see your doctor.

ouch that sounds like it hurt! well if it's throbbing that bad and you can't move your head then i think you should go to the doctor. i don't think you have a concussion because when i had a concussion it was reallyyy bad. like i blacked out, my nose started bleeding, and i couldn't see when i woke up, it was like i had an old person's vision or something and my vision is usually 20/20 lol. idk really cause i'm no doctor but you might have just bruised it or it could be something worse. i'd go to the doctor anyway because it sounds like you hit your head pretty hard. good luck (:

Do you feel any of the following?

Dizzy? Tired? Nauseous? Have blurred vision?

If yes, you might have a concussion which can be very serious (its when you fall down and your brain jumbles around inside your head -- usually bruising itself.)

I'd recommend seeing a doctor or something.

Yes you should go to the doctors. Something similar happened to me and if effected my memory because I didn't get medical attention. So it's best to get yourself checked.

Talk to the school nurse, or see a dr.
You didn't black out, so it may not be a concussion, unless your pupils look big or something.

But it is better to be careful about something like this.

V for Vendetta
You should pack up right now and go to the emergency room.

Quick treatment could have saved Richardson
Richardson died of head trauma

The New York City medical examiner's office says actress Natasha Richardson died from a blunt impact to the head. CNBC's Melissa Francis reports.

updated 10:58 p.m. ET, Thurs., March. 19, 2009

NEW YORK - Actress Natasha Richardson died from bleeding in her skull caused by the fall she took on a ski slope, an autopsy found Thursday. The medical examiner ruled her death an accident, and doctors said she might have survived had she received immediate treatment. However, nearly four hours elapsed between her lethal fall and her admission to a hospital.

Richardson suffered from an epidural hematoma, which causes bleeding between the skull and the brain’s covering, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner’s office.

Such bleeding is often caused by a skull fracture, and it can quickly produce a blood clot that puts pressure on the brain. That pressure can force the brain downward, pressing on the brain stem that controls breathing and other vital functions.

Patients with such an injury often feel fine immediately after being hurt because symptoms from the bleeding may take time to emerge.

“This is a very treatable condition if you’re aware of what the problem is and the patient is quickly transferred to a hospital,” said Dr. Keith Siller of New York University Langone Medical Center. “But there is very little time to correct this.”

To prevent coma or death, surgeons frequently cut off part of the skull to give the brain room to swell.

“Once you have more swelling, it causes more trauma which causes more swelling,” said Dr. Edward Aulisi, neurosurgery chief at Washington Hospital Center in the nation’s capital. “It’s a vicious cycle because everything’s inside a closed space.”

Richardson, 45, died Wednesday at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan after falling at the Mont Tremblant resort in Quebec on Monday.

Details of her treatment have not been disclosed.

It remained unclear Thursday exactly how she was injured. Resort officials have said only that she fell on a beginner’s trail and later reported not feeling well.

A CT scan can detect bleeding, bruising or the beginning of swelling in the brain. The challenge is for patients to know whether to seek one.

“If there’s any question in your mind whatsoever, you get a head CT,” Aulisi advised. “It’s the best 20 seconds you ever spent in your life.”

Broadway dims lights in her honor
Richardson's husband Liam Neeson and mother Vanessa Redgrave were among family members who went to Broadway as theaters dimmed their lights in tribute to the Tony-winning actress Thursday night.

The theaters dimmed their lights for one minute at about 8 p.m., the traditional starting time for Broadway evening performances. Also present were Richardson’s sister, Joely, and actors Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker and Ron Rifkin.

“The Broadway community is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our finest young actresses, Natasha Richardson. Her theatrical lineage is legendary, but her own singular talent shined memorably on any stage she appeared,” said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, the trade organization for Broadway theaters and producers.

Sam Mendes, who directed the Broadway musical “Cabaret” for which Richardson won a Tony, said: “It defies belief that this gifted, brave, tenacious, wonderful woman is gone.”

you should call a doctor right a away because hiting your head hard and making your brain move is bad your brain will shut down and your whole body system to so that means you,ll die

actually 2days ago i was about to sit on the floor to in my room to sort stuff out for school and i hit my head on the side of my bed. It doesn't sound bad but it was the corner so it hurt a lot. it still hurt today so i went to go ask my dad "parmedic" and he said when you hit you head on anything it can take it a little time to heal not the skin but in your body and then he tried to explain it but it was too boring so i didnt listen so i think your ok. but if it is still like that in like 3 or 4 days or if it was hurting worse i would got to the doc. and check it out. its better to do that then you passing out at skool with a brain problem. hope i helped!!!!! ^_^

There is a large possibility that it will go away, in fact it will likely go away with time. Your neck ache is simply because of the force you hit your head with, nothing serious there, but the headache part is surely not good, but not likely to be super serious. If it does continue for several days then I'd start worrying.

Don't screw around with a possible head injury. +++Go Get an X-Ray of your head & see a doctor right away.+++

There might be a small tumor or something bleeding inside that could possibly KILL you. . Do you understand?

go to your local emergency room and have them scan your head for subdural hematoma (gathering of blood in the head). the hematoma isn't dangerous WHEN IT'S CAUGHT... that's the important thing. let us not forget the dearly departed actress natasha richardson.

or, if anything, it's a concussion, which means STILL see your doctor or local emergency room physician. this is your HEAD we're talking about here, so no taking chances.

if u didnt black out or anything u should b fine but i would get a docter to chek u out just incase

you might have a concussion...go to the doctor

call the doctor and tell him what happened and everything thats going on and ask if u should go see him/her.....if u feel like throwing up go rite away if u throw up go to the ER

free spirit
Yes..be concerned...report this incident to your school principal immediately...don't take falls to your head or body lightly...it takes years for some ailments to surface...go see a doctor...

It's easier than you think to have a mild concussion. I wouldn't go to ER or anything, but I would go see a doctor/walk-in clinic tomorrow.

With head or neck injuries, always, always, always go and see a doctor. I'm not sure if there is free health care where you live, but in any case, get it looked at. The potential long term consequences are simply not worth the risk.

Yes you should be concerned. Never take a head injury lightly if the pain does not subside after taking OCT pain meds. call your doctor immediately.
