Bellαs Cнi Pwиs.
It's really contagious, and spreadable.
We don't have a cure/treatment for it yet.
The media is making it sound horrifying, which scares the cowards off their feet.
It can't be easily treated.
And somebody has died.
I blame Mexico. :(
God Bless <3

Daddy Warbucks
Somebody has died, and people are scared because it is spreading so quickly.

EDIT: Ah I see somebody went crazy with the thumbs downs and decided to give me one?

I know almost every answer was being all smart and saying that one (toddler) died in Texas but think, how many people are there in the US? I agree that it is quite a big deal, don't think I don't because I do. But everyone freaking out is not helping. Just stay calm, drink lots of water, wash your hands very often, and again stay calm :) People are scared because this is a new disease that there is no shot for and people are not immune to it. It will get better soon though :-) Hope I helped x

Boon Coonsday
People are scared because they are ignorant. It is true that swine flu is a new strain of the influenza virus. It is also true that it is a bit more virulent than some strains that circulate during the winter months. However, the virus usually only causes mild symptoms similar to other types of flu and clears up in a few days. Some people have died from this new strain. A larger number of people die each year from more widespread flu strands. They die because they are infants or elderly and do not have a strong enough immune system. It's about as dangerous as the bird flu which also had little consequence.

Media-induced mass-'hypnosis'. How many people do you know who have a sense of 'every stranger is a potential murderer' or worse? We have non-stop streaming news that we can no longer even completely avoid seeing or hearing about. All of which is ratings-driven, therefore, all of it leads with the deaths, accidents, murderers, pedophiles, and other assorted chaos and sensationalizes every potential danger, no matter how remote, in order to 'hook' viewers/listeners/readers.
Everyone ought to try to break the chains of indoctrination and have an original thought once in a while. Why give a damn about about some inconsequential flu bug before it is time to do so?
Both I and my family will continue to do the things we always do to avoid illness. If one of us becomes ill, then step two will continue to follow step one, and so on and so forth. Somehow, the earth will continue to spin, amazing!

FYI Peaple Have - the toddler was traveling to texas from mexico, so likely they had not recieved proper medical treatment.
Its scarry because There is no definite cure, i read that flu vaccines may help but will not prevent all strains.
The virus is said to have stabilized and is in Europe, cases are leveling off in Europe. But its Global! It is in 9 countries. Some countries have banned travel to mexico.
It is similar to the Spanish Influenza breakout in 1918-19. Which was awful.
The world health center raised the threat level to five witch is the highest it had ever been an the a level below the maximum of a six.

Heres info on the Swine Flu

okay dont listen to any1. tthe toddler that died in texas, came back from mexico... which is were everything started. it is just like a regular flu, have the same symptoms, just take timaflu, and etc. and you will get better, if you have it.

One person has died. And more will. But still, I agree with you. There's cause for concern, but there's cause for concern every year when flu season comes.

People are scared because this is new and because many people are stupid. They worry about 100 deaths from a new disease but are in total ignorance of the 1.2 million people who die every year from car accidents or the hundreds of thousands who die from ordinary flu every year.

Why am I not panicked? Because I know that every year ordinary flu kills 30,000 people in the US alone, that every year car accidents kills 30,000 people in the US and 1.2 million in the world as a whole. Because I know these numbers, I put other so-called disasters into perspective.

Do we need to be careful? Of course. No one likes to get sick. But the level of anxiety about this is completely out of balance with the threat it poses and completely out of balance with the way people accept other things (death from ordinary flu or from car wrecks) without worrying.

Seirra, viruses are NOT living things, they are simply RNA strands coated in protein that affect living things like cells, animals, and humans. Also, another mistake in what you are saying, the Swine Flu (a virus) is not airborne, unless of course you are referring to the rare instances when someone with the swine flu sneezes or coughs near another person, in which case it can be contracted momentarily by those in the immediate area where the infected person sneezed/coughed.

Just the thought of getting it..I mean, you're not POSITIVE that you will make it through.

Oh..there was one death in Texas..btw :(

Doctor Acupressure
it is because the thought of death is like that.a human weakness.
it is misinformed by certain vested interests to push their products into the market for selfish gains.

Ben M
id be scared its in its early stages, and the last three days the virus has doubled in the u.s, with it being transmitted airborne it can spread faster. since we are not immune its very serious. if it was the basic flu, it wouldn't be a problem, because we have a vaccine. when the WHO says its serious then listen, i think they know how fast and deadly this virus is, out of around 500 cases almost 200 have died with it being early, that's a high kill rate so far. better to be aware and up to date then being clueless

1 person has died in the us but still there r ways to prevent it, heres an article all abt prevention! rate it five stars thnx!!

Hellloooo :)
OK. First of all the toddler in Texas was from Mexico and lives in Mexico he was just visiting family. And second of all... of course we don't have immunity to it, but that doesnt mean we will get really sick. That means if we contact someone.someting that has it we will probably get it to but we will get the very mild case (unless u live in mexico) that everyone else has been getting. But no one has immunity to the flu. The flu shot that they give you is for last years flu because they cant predict this years flu... so if you get the shot you will have immunity 2 last years flu and there fore get a mild case of the flu, if any, this year. So everyone is scared about this because the name is kinda creepy i would say and because it is a new never seen before strain. So it has to be investigated. But this flu doesnt look to bad so far... things are starting to settle down in Mexico... not many new deaths are being reported and no one has died anywhere else so far (except for a baby who was MeXICAN).

sa b
media hysteria man. it has the potential to become very bad but right now its a minor problem. nows the time to act not panic

Again, this is serious. Some schools here are shut down. I don't want to alarm you but you should keep informed and you will be after writing this question, sweetie.

Plus, a baby died two days ago. First death in the US. The sweet one died in Texas. I live in Texas.☺

First of all, have you been watching the news lately? There has been 1 death in the US. A toddler in Texas died due to the swine flu. Why are people scared? Because the swine flu is a new type of virus that humans are not immune to. People in Mexico have died because most thought it was an ordinary case of the flu. This virus is deadly in a way because it can mutate. Yes, there are treatments to those who detect early signs of the swine flu. I'm not worried or panicked. But people are just taking safety precautions so it won't cause a panic.

The one death in the U.S was a 2 year old mexican boy that came to texas after he got sick in mexico. So it's not really a U.S. death because he didn't catch it here.

HMMM okay somebody HAS died actually...and it's the fact that its from " a pig" and not a regular flu...and the fact that it's spreading so quickly is what makes people so scared.

Someone has died smart one read the news.
And it is easily treated NOW.
It is way more severe in Mexico and that's not to far away from us so there is a risk of the swine flu in the US getting as severe as Mexico, people can't make predictions so early in the game.

And to Sierra- there is no cure yet, they are in the process of making one now and I heard on the news that its going to be ready by the end of the summer.

Okay genius.
Someone HAS died.
In Texas.
Don't underestimate this virus, viruses are living things too, and if we fight, it will fight back.
This is very serious and very bad.
You want to know why it's a big deal?
First-it's brand new, humans have no immunity to it.
Second- There is no cure.
Third-It's air born, so no human contact is actually even needed.
Fourth- It mutates, thus meaning if you get it, you're not immune and you can get it again.

Drop The World
You're ignorant. This is a very dangerous disease. DAYS short of a pandemic. The last pandemic we had millions of people died, schools, business, EVERYTHING shuts down and it cripples and economy to it's core. There IS a reason people are freaking out.

actually a toddler in texas died because of it

Im sick of hearing about it...its about common sense...and seeing I work in a pharmacy--Im going to have all these psycho people freaking out b/c EVERYONE is talking about it 24/7...its driving me nuts...wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, cough/sneeze into your arm/elbow, throw away tissues

duh....all this about nothing...and the one person that died came over here FROM Mexico for treatment...no one that currently LIVES in the US has died....
