what is the danger of not washing new clothes before wearing ?
i heard one can aquire an infection

I never wash new clothes before wearing them.

Dustin A
i dont think there is

well obviously bathing suits you may want to wash but normaly you won't aquire any infections

Wikipedia Brown
I kind of doubt you can pick up a disease unless you wear the clothes right after someone else has tried them on. The danger is formaldehyde exposure. Companies use that chemical to preserve the clothes. Personally I doubt this is really that big of a deal unless you're talking about putting the clothes on babies or small children.

Sarah H.
Garment manufacturers in warm, tropical regions such as Asia sometimes add formaldehyde to fabric finishes to prevent mildew in the clothing before it arrives on chain store shelves at your local mall.
It really depends on where your fabrics are coming from. Certain countries have varying levels of acceptable amounts of formaldehyde to be used in products (such as shampoos, fabrics, etc..) and some people are more sensitive than others to it.
Better safe than sorry - wash your clothes before you wear them.

Fore some people, some minor skin irritation called a contact dermatitis can occur but most people, unless they have very sensitive skin, have no symptoms when wearing new clothing. Lots of people do this.

The risk of painfull itchyness.

Infections are highly unlikely, but some clothes bleed colors onto your skin before washing. Also, it generally a good idea because it gets rid of some of the material's stiffness.

if u got it from a thrift store u should deffanetly wash

i wouldnt worry too much if the clothes are brand spanking new. if that spread diseases id be dead by now.

if you bought them from a store they wash them before you get them anyways

i don't think there is any terrible danger! you will STINK! other than that your clothes could grow mold or something...who knows?

Well, i would just think of all those dirty sweaty people trying on those clothes. You never know what they were doing before they tried on what you just bought. As you walk around the store, look at the people... would you wear their clothes unwashed? Its pretty much the same thing.

I always wash new clothes. I get grossed out by thinking of how many people tried them on and how many hands these garments have gone through. Also, a good question to ask yourself is, where were these garments made? Just thinking of where the cloth came from? Were the clothes sewn in a old dirty factory and just thrown in a pile? What if the person sewing that piece of clothing was sick and coughing all over the place? I have a small baby and I hold her close to me all the time. I can't imagine placing her on fabric that has been stored in a factory and shipped all over the place. So I wash all new clothes! Just my opinion.

oh whoa... no infection unless someone that tried it in before u wasnt wearing uderwear.. but seriously.. no infection! they tell u to wash it because the color of the clothing can run of the fabric. like if it rains the color from it can fall on your shoes or anything around! hope this helps!

Don't think there are any real problems, but somebody who may have previously touched it could of had...a cold? Don't want to catch anything like that...

Im Awesomee(:
u could get diseases carried from other ppl tht tried on the clothes b4 and it feels better n sometimes looks better after being washed.

I guess that you can get others peoples germs from they try it on or touch the clothes at the store. I personally have never washed my new clothes before wearing

Suzy With An Uzi
it's kinda like a precaution, some clothes can get messed up before you wash it. like yer sweat, it might stain.

Actually there is no scientific fact saying that when you use a new clothe that has not been washed you could get an infection. That is only a myth. I have used unwashed new clothes for many years but thank God I didn't got any skin infection. So it is only a myth, no scientific basis for that thinking. But if you're still doubtful, there is no harm washing the new clothes first before using it.

Hope this helps.

Try wearing new jeans on a really hot day b4 u wash them. This is particularly dangerous and may well give you an entirely new definition of the term "blue balls" !!!!!

i think it is a possibility to get an infection... or maybe a rash or something. it's probably caused by other people trying the clothes on before you. they could have a disease or something.

Alaaya loves MJ
When I buy a new shirt or piece of clothing I never wash them just straight away wear it

No, but they feel better after laundering.

never heard of anyone getting an infection!
clothes often have something that makes them stiff so they look good in the stores. They feel better when this sizing is washed out.

Its just like anything, you can get whatever germs, its in a store, and people can not only touch it but try it on as well.........yeah, so think like this, whats the danger in not washing my hands after I touch things that the public has been touching only now its covering your body
