can strep throat go away without antibiotics?

John H
have your doctor prescribe amoxycillin for it. it is given for free at walmarts and meijers. assuming that you aren't allergic to penicillin, that is!

If untreated, strep throat will become dormant in your body, sometimes for years. But then it reactivates and can cause septic arthritis or rheumatic fever which can destroy your heart valves. Take care of it now and save yourself a lot of hassle.

Yes. in the absence of complications, streptococcal pharyngitis is self-limited. But treatment is usually sought. Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) is associated with prior group A streptococcal pharyngitis. Onset of ARF occurs 2-5 weeks after strep throat. ARF can be a serious disease and most physicians will want to treat confirmed strep throat because of this possible sequelae.

Usually it is VERY HARD to get rid of it without treatment.. It can turn into pneumonia so you need to be Very careful.

Take some vitamin c and vitamin d tablets so you can get better faster.

First of all, very few "strep throats" are actually caused by strepococcus. Most sore throats are due to viral causes. Unless you have culture positive evidence you should not be treated for strep. unless you have underlying risk factors for endocarditis. Antibiotics do not shorten the course or severity of the pharyngitis but help to prevent seeding of the bacteria on the heart valve or other structures. Most strep throats will resolve on their own and only those which persist should be treated after culture done.

No. The only way to cure strep throat is to see a doctor to get antibiotics, and take the meds as the doctor prescribes.

In my experience, it's not a good idea to let bacterial infections go untreated since they have a tendency to get worse. One of the really bad things that could happen is something called rheumatic fever which causes damage to the heart.

You may feel better and think that it cleared up but it can come back and be hard to get rid of without antibiotics. How do ou know that you have strep? You have to be tested for it.

Thats a bacteria. Its may feel that it has gone away. Strep can become very painful. And lead to other infections.

It can but will take a very long time and carries consequences. We just learned in my medical microbiology class that untreated strep can turn into rheumatic fever which damages the heart valves and/or other serious conditions! This usually happens in kids(5-15) but may occur later. It is rare but do you really want to risk it? Go to the doctor please. http://www.lifesteps.com/gm/Atoz/ency/strep_throat.jsp

Almost never. The longer it exists untreated, the more danger there is of complication such as: heart valve damage, joint damage, brain damage, kidney damage, etc.

Usually not. Strep Throat is a biological infection, therefore, you need an antibiotic medication. You need to get it taken care of so go and see the doctor. It can lead to more srious illnesses it not treated.

Yes, if your body's immunity is strong enough to fight it off. It will take much longer than gettings the medicine though.
