If someone you work with tested positive for swine flu?
would you still go to work or stay home if your boss said you would be fired for not turning up.

anonymous
I would stay home for sure. But it depends on how much you depend on your job too. The only reason I would go to work is in hopes that if I do get it I will have the immunity for next flu season in case it becomes really deadly by then.

If you have to work, wear a proper mask, gloves and spray everything in sight with alcohol. Stay away from others, no physical contact, etc.

Yeah, maybe swine flu isn't as bad as they say it is, but can anyone guarantee that?? I would rather be wrong than dead.

Please don't spread it around for the rest of us.

Jenny suspendy
Pssh stay home. my job is not worth my life.

i would go if that person wasn't there anymore. just buy dis-infective wipes and clean your area good. and carry purel. wash your hands alot.

Considering how overblown swine flu is by the media? I'd turn up and then feign illness to get a couple of days off, chances are low of catching it and the risk of being fatal is insignificant.
The risk is if it mutates into a more deadly form, in which case catching the early strain is beneficial.

bactiman63
Hopefully they stayed home.

I would stay home because I am not a spineless slave... never have been, never will be.

Guitar
I wouldn't tell him I'm not coming in for that..I'd just call in sick!

gamafoo

if you have to then go to work. if you work right next to the infected person i would not go. talk to your boss. is it legal to make someone go to work if they are in danger of getting sick?

Mr Cool
Are you sure?.... the Health department should know by now .... they will close the place down if they thought there was any danger...

mnvikes
id go to work. only like 2 people have died from it out of several hundred cases and one was a little kid who was an illegal immigrant, so the parents probably didnt seek care immediately. it also seems to have good susceptibility to antiviral medications. its probably less dangerous than "regular flu" which usually kills several thousand americans annually. the media always likes a good scare story.

it would depend entirley if u have been in contact with the person who tested positive.. if you have for a long amout of time.. firstly u should get tested and secondly you cant be fired because this could go to court..

I would definitely go to work. Especially if my job was at stake. The Swine Flu is simply the average flu. They only constantly talked about it because they thought it was a similar flu to the Spanish Influenza epidemic that happened in the early 1900s. They were wrong though.

Cheese is good.
NO i would stay home

Pandora
i'd continue to work.

Fusion
Well i defiantly feel you would have case to contest in court. If your claim was that you work place is hazardous and infectious environment.

I would report the situation to the CDC and NOT go to work. You cannot be fired for that because it would be a health violation unless the workplace has been sanitized by a cleaning crew and the co worker and others have been tested and treated. Nothing is more important than your life.

go to work. swine flu is not nearly as bad as everyone initially thought. its completely curable and hardly anyone has actually died from it (most of the people in mexico died of something else they discovered). they have drugs to cure swine flu and studies have been done that prove swine flu is actually less severe than the actual flu. it would be really dumb to get fired over this

I'd probably go to work then get the antibiotics when I start sneezing. Mortgage and bills come first. If it was killing people then I'd stay at home and look for another job (people in Mexico don't count because of the lack of medical care).

ruggles08
I would go if the work area had been thoroughly cleaned according to CDC guidelines first. If not, I might consider calling the Dept of Health in my state to see what they thought was an acceptable course of action.

Swine Flu is no worse than the average flu, it was blown up by the currupt greedy media who exaggerate stories and pump fear into citizens to get them hooked onto their news broadcasts so they stick around to watch the commercials that give the News companies money, so they sensationalize everything. Stop watching the news.

hello there ツ
well its really only like a flu and should be treated like one - so if this job was important i would go (but with a gallon of Germ- X and a friendly "don't come near me till you're better" smile )

Everyone will face this soon if they work outside of the home. I would still show up for work but I would do what I normally do everyday, clean the desks, keyboard etc. I don't trust that the cleaning people do that at night. I would continue washing my hands as often as I normally do and just hope that I don't get the flu, any flu.

I work in a hospital.......Do we just not show up when someone in our work place gets sick? What would it be like if you had a heart attack and nobody was there to save your life because we were all afraid to go to work?

You have a greater risk of getting hit by a bus then from dieing from the flu. Do you lock yourself in the house?
