I am terrified about having my TB vaccination?
I am petrified about having my TB done

I was wondering if anyone could try to take my nerves away as i have heard so many roumers that it absolutely kills, they have to put fruit behind your arm.

Can you tell me the truth about the pain, and the stages that you go through to have your TB

Please Help???!!??!

Look, I am a Marine. And I'm not telling you that because I think I am tougher that you or anything. I am telling you this because we get like 15 shots and its a pain in the ***.

TB hurts for about a day-day and half. Its not that bad. It will burn when they give it to you. And then your Muscles will be sore. You might not be able to raise your arm in wierd directions. But trust me, after a couple days you wont even realize it.

I have never heard of the "fruit behind your arm" thing. We simple just raise our sleeves and they put the juice in us. Just relax, you will be fine.

The TB shot is the least painful shot I have ever had... and I am a major wimp.

One of the LEAST painful shots, and it not 'sore' afterwards. What a bunch of wusses on here!
I think some of you are mixing up TB with tetanus vaccines.
TB is NOT gone - it is actually making a 'comeback'.

it will really hurt my arm did for 1 month :L:L:L:L:L

Elvis4ever
It does not hurt any more than a regular injection

Just Me
It doesn't hurt - it looks weird for a minute but it is pretty painless. Fruit? Never heard of that. They stick a needle under your skin and you will see a lump for a second or so... its really not all that painful - if you don't watch you probably won't even know when they start and when they're done.

999pheebs
Call yourself a rocker?! lol
Honestly it doesnt hurt at all.

S
Basically you have two jabs. One at first which really doesn't hurt to tell whether you need it or not, and the actual vaccination a couple of weeks later. This does sting a bit, but its really not as bad as people say. Just don't let them wind you up before you get it done. The waiting is the worst part by far.

Rake
I beg your pardon?

You sound like you're about three years old. It's just a shot.

TweetyBird
There is no TB vaccination. It's not a vaccination at all, it's a test to determine if you've been exposed to TB and carry the mycobacteria in your body. The rumors you've heard are patently false.

You'll have a protein injected just under the surface of the skin on the inside of your left arm. Approximately 2-4cc of fluid, just enough to make a small swelling we call a bleb. If you don't see a bleb, that's okay. They always don't show up 100% of the time. If the injection is done with skill, you won't feel a thing. If it's not done with great skill, you'll feel a small, brief sting. I've never heard of fruit being put behind someone's arm and I don't know why it would be necessary. This is ludicrous.

This is how it will go down:

(1) You'll be seated and asked to roll up the sleeve of your left arm so wear something easy to roll up. The entire procedure will be explained to you by a nurse as you go. You'll be told what to expect.
(2) A small area on inside of your left arm, midway between your elbow and wrist, will be cleaned with an alcohol pad. No tourniquet is used, this doesn't involve veins.
(3) A very fine, very short needle will be used to inject the protein under your skin. This will take only seconds.
(4) You'll be instructed to avoid rubbing or scratching the injection site. You'll be instructed to return in 48-72 hours (usually 72, which is 3 days) to have the injection site "read". That's it.

Redness is a common reaction to having had this type of injection, which is called a subcutaneous (sub-kew-TANE-nee-us) injection. Means "under the skin". Pay no attention to redness, it doesn't indicate a positive reaction and when we read injection sites, we disregard this. A hard swelling is called an induration and the size of the induration indicates a positive or negative result. Just having an induration doesn't necessarily mean you have TB. There are other risk factors that must be taken into consideration along with the size of the induration.

So there's nothing to be apprehensive about. You will find out that all the rumors you heard have no basis in reality and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask your nurse. I've certainly given my share of TB injections (called the Mantoux test -- pronounced MAN-too) and as a licensed health care provider I am qualified to answer any questions you may have.

I never had fruit put behind my arm... I think your sources are wrong.

It is not that bad. the give you a shot that makes your skin raise up a little but it will go down after a hour or two. It stings a little but you will be fine.

i have no clue what u heard. but i have had it done multiple times for my old job. it does not hurt at all. no more than any normal shot. takin blood hurts more than any shot i got. and then they will prob want u to go back in a few days to make sure a rash didnt develop because that would say u r like positive or something. besides that ur arms may be sore for a day or two and have a tiny little bump. but is really nothin at all. i have no clue who told u it was horrible. i think they were just screwin wit u.

:)
the people telling you these stories are just trying to scare you ..... my friends do that to me all the dam time. and im guillable like that. you will be fine its just another shot

TB vaccination? isn't it just a TB test? which is turbulocsis test? If so, I was tested for TB and it was this 5 prong little thing the did on my arm and if it bubbled up you have TB and if not you are fine. Unfortunately, mine bubbled up and was tested possitive for TB and had to take antibiotics for 6 months (government paid for it) sad part is my daughters had to be tested too at that time they were 6 and 4 years old. They did cry.

Someone is upsetting you about this and making you afraid and this is bullying.
Call Childline 0800 1111 and talk to an advisor.
As for the vaccination, you will think of so many other beautiful things and then it will be your turn and before you know it the nurse is saying "That's it, all done, you can go, next". There will be other times that you will feel afraid and I suggest you always think of more beautiful things and collect these thoughts like treasures. Try not to let the bullies steal your peace of mind.

If your talking about the TB skin test it is absolutly no big deal. They barely go under your skin.

Caitlin
I got it done last summer
it's not bad, just don't look and think about something that you like or talk to someone to take your nerves off it
it was a quick shot and then you gotta go in a couple of days after to see if you have tb-the spot would be raised-but you won't have it

haloextreme0
Well, If people said it hurts, then no offense..but they are sissys..because it doesnt hurt more than a regular shot..there is a pinch and a sting for a little while, dont worry, it will be sore for a few days after...but the soreness only lasts a couple of days and it doesnt hurt...
DONT WORRY

If this is a TB "test", it is done under the skin. They inject just enough of the serum to make a bubble in the skin. They take a note of the size, maybe draw a circle around the area, and you go back in a few days for them to look at it. It is not in the least painful.

gail m
A TB vaccine should only be a shot in the arm. Are you having a TB test to see if you have it? If so, they inject serum into one of your forearms. Then you some back in a certain amount of time and the nurse of whomever reads it to see if it swells up. I have had this test and its only a small pinch. I have never heard of fruit being used behind ones arm??

dont worry you dont go through any stages it is safe u wont feel a thing.

Harry B
its fine what would u rather have a jab which hurts a little or TB which will ruin your life and maby kill you.

hmm easy choice.

Marce
I am a nurse I've given it and receive a TB test every year. You feel a pinch, it doesn't even penetrate beyond the first layers of skin, it's a superficial injection, it doesn't even touch the muscle.

I don't know what "fruit" you are talking about. The needle is the finest we use, it's hair thin.

I got this about a month ago and it didn't hurt at all you will be fine.

♥Sw33th3aRt♥
Omg.. is OKKK!!! i took the tb vac. And it does'nt hurt as bad as they tell you. I am soo terrified of needles you dont even know. And when i went to get the tb vaccine for a job. I just stayed calm you feel the pinch but no big deal belive me. I'm not going to tell you no is nothing at all because u feel a little pinch and that's it. Afterwards it does'nt hurt at ALL!!!! it might itch a little but that's about it!
and hopefully It will be negative!
so dont worry take it easy!
i mean think about piercings if u have any like in the ear that hurtss wayyyyy moreeeee!
so i hope u got an idea !
go for it !
take care

I Bent My Wookie
You would rather have TB? GTFU.

Mr X
Seriously, I was so scared that it was going to hurt, but I find that if you look at the ceiling or the wall then you won't actually feel the sting. Think of it as having your ears pierced ... doesn't hurt at all!!

I suggest you don't look at the needle or it will just make you scared/panicked. Its more the fear of it hurting than anything. Good luck :)
