Bradycardia, as applied to adult medicine, is defined as a resting heart rate of under 60 beats per minute, though it is seldom symptomatic until the rate drops below 50 beat/min.
Check his blood pressure. If he has no dizziness, vertigo, fainting, etc., no treatment is necessary. If he has got hypotension, treat for the same.
Consult a cardiologist.

Technically, a normal heart rate is 60-100 beats per minute. Heart rates can vary like the waves in the ocean - depending on the health status of the patient, how much they exercise, certain medications, etc. Just wake him up, and I guarantee his rate will rise. Don't worry.

Don't worry, at night time mine is around 54, in the morning just after I've drunk some coffee it's about 65.
I'm fine, and I'm sure he's fine too :)

It's possible that he has an underlying thyroid condition, one of the symptoms being a slow heart rate. You don't need to rush to the emergency room, but perhaps a trip to your family doctor for some blood tests for thyroid hormones might help.

You should make a routine to measure your blood pressure and heart rate on a regular basis with the same equipment and conditions. The numbers alone are not a reason for concern. Everyone being different can make those "numbers" look deceiving. You should be looking for a pattern of change from the standard, that is when you might want to involve your doctor.
For your hubby, a rate of heart rate of 53 may be normal.

that is an entirely normal resting heart rate . why are you so uptight about your husbands heart rate, even to be checking it while he sleeps is he desperately sick?.

He must be fit then. There is nothing wrong with his heart rate unless it is irregular

My resting pulse is 44, I am of course very fit,you have not given any past, current or medication history with regard to your husband,so I have to pass on a sensible answer.
