First of all don't worry too much this will make you feel worse. You would be best off seeking advice from your gp, pharmasist or NHS 24.

The pain from a heart attack actually tends to be to one side of the chest rather than centrally. Hence why you see people gripping their bicep/shoulder area.

If you are worried talk to your doctor and if it's just a general worry eating healthy, getting plenty of sleep and excersing regularly reduces the risk.

I have had four MI's. No. 1, I thought I had indegestion. After 14 hours wife decided to call doctor. Nos.2 and 4, just felt uncomfortable. No.3. Felt very tired and collapsed unconscious. Never had the pain in my left are and tight chest feelings. Differs with everybody.

Really, it depends on the patient. I've had patients and their major complaint is 'generally unwell' and yes, we do have a classification of general unwellness on our charts. One patient, who's chief compaint was a sore ankle and mildly out of breath (they were already on oxygen), the only real indication that this patient was really sick was that we couldn't get a blood pressure on them, but then again it could have been the fact that the patient was well over 350 pounds and all we had at the time was a regular BP cuff. We later found out the ER nurses did get a BP of 40 systolic using doppler, holy crap batman!

Then I've had patients that have severe shortness of breath and it's due more to the heart failure and cargiogenic shock then actually being able to catch their breath, with little or no chest pain.

On the other hand there have been patients that have been in extreme discomfort, but generally discribe it like somebody sitting on thier chest and still yet others that just felt like they were being 'squeezed really tightly'.

In short, most individuals present uniquely, and I have yet to meet the patient having a textbook heart attack.

Often there is crushing chest pain sometimes there is pain in the back or jaw. Some people feel as if they have to defecate (go to the bathroom). If you are experiencing odd symptoms go to the ER

I had back pain for 20 years complete with pain pills, muscle relaxers, viox and MRI's.

One day, age 44, I went to the Dr. with an upset stomach and trouble sleeping and ended up being diagnosed in heart failure and that I had a massive heart attack within the past 5 years.

I walked up stairs every day. Went to work etc.. the entire time.

It's the lucky people that get the Fred Sanford heart attack.

Crushing (rather than stabbing) pain, sometimes the pain moves down into your arm, shortness of breath... there's a lot of symptoms, all of which can be mistaken for heart attack, but could also be many other things. One surefire way to find out if you are actually having a heart attack is to head for the nearest stairs and try and navigate them.

If you were having a heart attack, you'd likely not be able to get out your seat, and certainly wouldn't be able to get up or down the stairs!

Ok Im 35 years old and back in August of Last year I had a heart attack and to be honest with you when it started out that was the last thing I thought it was because of my age but I found out real quick that age really has nothing to do with it..

That morning I started having pains in the middle of my chest and they would be real sharp and would move to my left arm around my shoulder well as the day progressed they got stronger and longer and then I was getting sick at my stomach and was breaking out in a cold sweat..By the end of the day because I did nothing about this I collapsed in the middle of my floor and luckly some one was here with me and dialed 911..I had to have quadrupal bypass and im very lucky to be here today to tell my story ..

So if for any reason you feel like something is wrong and especially if you are having any kind of chest pains please go to your doctor or the nearest hospital and dont wait like I did because it almost cost me my life..

Heart Attack Warning Signs
Some heart attacks are sudden and intense — the "movie heart attack," where no one doubts what's happening. But most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Often people affected aren't sure what's wrong and wait too long before getting help. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is happening:

Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness

Chest pain is a major symptom of heart attack. However, some people may have little or no chest pain, especially the elderly and those with diabetes. This is called a silent heart attack.
The pain may be felt in only one part of the body or move from your chest to your arms, shoulder, neck, teeth, jaw, belly area, or back.
The pain can be severe or mild. It can feel like:
* Squeezing or heavy pressure
* A tight band around the chest
* Something heavy sitting on your chest
* Bad indigestion
Pain usually lasts longer than 20 minutes. Rest and a medicine called nitroglycerine do not completely relieve the pain of a heart attack.
Other symptoms of a heart attack include:
* Shortness of breath
* Nausea or vomiting
* Anxiety
* Cough
* Fainting
* Lightheadedness - dizziness
* Palpitations (feeling like your heart is beating too fast)
* Sweating, which may be extreme
Please see the web pages for more details on Heart attack (Myocardial infarction).
