How should I treat my baby's sunburn?
Hi, I have a 10 month year old baby. Today she got a sunburn on her face that looks very uncomfortable. I know your not supposed to use lotion and Im afraid Aloe will irritate her sensitive skin. Does anyone have any other remedies that are good for sunburns in the facial area and on the shoulders.

Thanks in advance.

tHa PregO Nurse is 21 weeks!!
1----Just add milk---Dip some gauze into milk and apply it to your sunburned skin. The milk should be about room temperature or slightly cooler but not refrigerator-cold. Milk is an excellent remedy for any kind of burn.

2----Get Jolly Green skin care---Wrapping a bag of frozen corn or peas in a towel and applying it to the burned area also helps cool the pain. But be sure, to wrap it first, so you don't place the icy package directly on your skin.

3----Soak yourself in diluted vinegar. Pour one cup of white cider kitchen vinegar into a tub of tepid water and soak yourself in it, It's very soothing to your skin and helps relieve the pain of sunburn."

4----Or try baking soda and cornstarch. Another recipe for relief, also from the kitchen cabinet: Mix 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of cornstarch into a tub of tepid water and soak yourself.

5---Heal with oatmeal. If you find the smell of vinegar or milk too intense, you can wrap dry oatmeal in some gauze or cheesecloth and run cool water through it. Wring out the excess water and apply the cloth for 20 minutes every two to four hours.

6---Don't be too clean. While you have sunburn, stay away from highly fragrant bubble baths, soaps, colognes and perfumes. They may be too drying and irritating to your already parched skin. Stick with mild soaps and don't scrub too hard when you wash.

have you tried milk of magnasia? my mom always used that on us when we were younger.

put the aloe in the fridge for a half hour so its reeally cold. until that happens take a cold wet cloth and gently pat her facemake sure the towel yo use is soft on her skin.the put some aloe ON HE CLOTH and kep patting gentily on her face until she alseep then let her sleep and wash off the aloe just incase she were to stick out her tongue when she was sleeping.she will probally wake upp once of twice more because of dis comfort but have you towel and aloe ready.

Considering her skin is probably already very irritated from the burn, aloe will do nothing but improve her comfort, and speed healing. Also, you should give her some ibuprofin which will help with swelling and discomfort.

Sorry, but "PregO Nurse" is giving you advice for an adult, not a baby.

Don't use baby oil. Yes, it's for babies, but oils of any kind tend to keep the burned skin from "breathing" and might make it worse.

Aloe is fine. You can use it squeezed right from the aloe vera plant or buy the 100% aloe vera gel from any drug store or Walmart.

I wouldn't advise using ice on a baby's skin. That would be very uncomfortable. COOL compresses such as a moistened baby wash cloth or other very soft clean cloth would be best.

Someone told you to give the baby ibuprofen. Motrin and Advil are brands of ibuprofen, but BE SURE to ONLY use the infant ones and ONLY as directed. Ask the dr. about this.

I really think you should have the dr. look at your baby. And PLEASE don't ever allow your child to be exposed to harmful rays of the sun like that again. Talk to the dr./pediatrician about using a sun block specifically for infants if you have to take her out in the direct sun for a while again. But don't use adult sun block.

try baby oil. I've never tried it I've just heard of it. It might work may not but good to try :) Keep cool rags on her too. that helps alot! :) Good Luck! I know it's painful to see your child go through hell. I've been there!
