Chigger bites itch like crazy and usually cause little red bumps. Ticks would still be present, plus I don't think tick's technically bite. Chigger's are red and Ticks are blackish/brown in color.

ticks you can see and chiggers you can't. chiggers itch like crazy. ticks normally crawl into the skin and you can see/feel them. chiggers are very tiny red bugs. ticks are blackish.

For a bite from a chigger you will start to suffer intense itching at the site...check the site and if chiggers have bitten, you will see red welts beginning to form...clean the site carefully and apply hydrocortisone cream to treat the itching. Use a commercial product such as Chigarid or Chigg-away to treat the bites. Keep the site clean and watch for signs of secondary infection. The discomfort from chigger bites can last up to 2 weeks, even though the chiggers may have dropped or been removed.
Ticks live in grass, bushes, wooded area and seashores. They attach their bodies onto a human or animal host and prefer hairy area such as scalp, behind the ears, in the armpits or groin area, and also b/t fingers and toes. Tick bites often occur at nite and more in the spring and summer months. Use a pair of tweezers to remove the tick. Grab it firmly by its mouth or head as close to the skin as possible...pull up slowly and steadily w/o twisting until it lets go...do not squeeze the tick, use Vaseline, solvents, knives or a lit match to kill the tick...save the tick and place it in a plastic container or bag so it can be tested for disease...wash the area of the bite well with soap and water and apply antiseptic lotion or cream. I hope this info is helpful to you.
