cut out those carbs. no rice, pasta, sugar. eat lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower.... and fish/chicken/lean turkey or beef. you'll lose like 10-14 lbs in 2 weeks.

exercise daily (as u probly do, being an xc runner)
limit sugar intake

You can wring out five pounds of water in a day. Put a trash bag on under a sweat shirt and jump rope for about 20 min.

Drink some tea for a diuretic afterward and I bet you will be close to 5 lbs in 8 hours.

But yeah just for maintenance running helps. In fact for a person with healthy joints running is really the best way to maintain weight...even though it has fallen out of fashion somewhat in fitness circles.
