yep
carbs brake down to sugars
sugars are what give you a boost
protien is good, but sugars and carbs are real important.
fad diets dont work, try just cutting back, and cutting your meal portion in half, no diet drinks, but mostly, excersise.
this will actually give you energy, not take it away |

Yes, that is typical. Your body is going through withdrawal like symptoms from carbs. Hang in there. Being tired, having headaches, just feeling kind of crappy is common. But after a week or maybe 2, you'll feel better and have lots of energy. Good luck. |

It's because carbs help release endorphins (The happy chemical) I got onery when I tried it...so I stopped |

it's perfectly normal to feel that way. the body is in the process of adjusting from utilizing carbohydrates for energy to lipids.
the first week is the hardest |

Let me state this as plainly as possible:
Glucose is the only fuel normally used by brain cells.
If you are feeling odd when you do not consume much glucose, it only makes sense. Your brain is not getting the energy it needs to function.
This is how no-carb diets work. In spite of eating a million calories your brain is still sending out 'no energy' signals and your body keeps trying to come up with it. But your body is incapable of turning anything into glucose. So you burn fat - and eventually everything else - as your brain is slowly dying. |

atkins is no carbs, carbs are what give you energy.i like the south beach philosophy for a fad diet.i think your body needs those carbs |

the atkins is tough as you have no carbs to feed your system with what it is used to. If you continue to have no energy for over 2 weeks then you should stop. A good alternative that will give you energy whilst losing weight is herbalife, you lose weight whilst taking in lots of protein, so you feel good and shed pounds. I did this through myhealthabc.com and it works. I would recommend these to anyone |

Yes, you will feel tired/lightheaded the first week or so... stay on it, by the end of the second week you will have more energy than you know what to do with! |

With any diet one of two things usually happens. 1. The body becomes tired and feels run down. 2. The body becomes energized and feels great. The sense of feeling tired will pass as soon as your body regulates itself to your new way of eating. Your body is feeling deprived because it is not getting the quantity of carbs that it is used to getting. This also happened to my sister's husband. They both went on this diet and she felt great but he was almost beat by it, but he stuck with it and soon he began to feel better and the pounds started to come off. I believe he lost around 70 lbs. and my sister lost around 50 lbs. Good luck. |

The diet is responsible for this, it is not a balanced diet. You should eat fruit and veg, not lashings of meat. Meat should only be a small part of your diet. Watching your calories and exercising is a better way to healthy weight loss. you could join a club to help you keep it up. |

I've done Atkins twice and both times managed to get down to my goal weight...yeah, TWICE, that means that I gained it back the first time. And the second time. Atkins played havoc with my bowels, skin, nails, hair and of course I just wanted to sleep all of the time. That's what happens when you cut out a food group. Carbs are your body's main source of energy and believe me, your body WANTS carbs. The surest, healthiest, way to permanently lose and keep off weight is to burn more calories than you take in. My personaly recommendation is the 3-hour diet. You basically eat every three hours during the day. These mini meals help stave off hunger. I've been eating mini meals for 2 years now and have lost the weight and kept it off. I literally have to force myself to eat- I'm just not hungry. There are many plans, guides, and groups that work. You just have to find the right one for you. |

I have yo-yoed up and down on it... I can get through the first two weeks, no problem... it's afterwards when I desire a coke! Anyway good luck and take vitamins... B12 help metabolism and generate energy... worked for me! |

The Atkins Diet does call this. It takes away from your proteins, and other things.
Your best bet would be to stop this diet and go to see a nutritionist, and get a plan that will work for you. Making sure you are getting everything you need for your lifestyle. The problem with most laid out diets is the fact they don't take indiviuals into consideration. You may need more iron in your diet as opposed to the person next to you who may need less iron and more protein. Really you don't want to give yourself more problems by starving your body of anything it needs.
I went with a nutritionist and in the first two weeks I lost 15 lbs. And 2 months later..my low iron is back on track, I have plenty of energy. I have lost a total of 30 lbs. I never felt this good in my entire life. |

Everyone will react differently to the foods they eat. When I was on Atkins I was really tired all the time, then I was getting that "sick to the stomach" feeling everyday. Soon after that I quit doing atkins and started feeling better, but gained the wait back I had lost plus a few pounds more to punish me for the effort. That was about 8 years ago before they had all the stuff they have out today for low carb dieters, so eating stuff other than Meat, Eggs and Cheese was really difficult. They didn't have the low carb tortillas and chips and such. |

if your stating to feel really sick and bloated as well the diet is working but you have to stay motivated and keep it up or youll probably just put weight on good luck |

Unfortunately there are so many fad diets out there. If I were you I would check with my doctor and get a complete physical to see if your blood shows any deficiencies. Your doctor should advice you on the safe way to lose weight. |

I've heard people report feeling tired from it. By omitting carbs, you are also emitting one of the biggest sources of energy boosts, that's why you're feeling tired. The atkins diet is not healthy....many people have had complications from it...why don't you try a diet which allows you to have everything in moderation, and just incorporate more physical activity into your life? That's the healthiest way, and will last longer since you won't constantly feel deprived. |

yes. forget the diet just eat less and exercise more |

Anytime you seriously cut carbs, your energy output is severely reduced. If this continues to be a problem, try switching to the South Beach diet. It's based on the glycemic index, so good carbs are kosher on the diet, and therefore it's not as restrictive and you won't feel as tired. Plus, it's a lot easier to stick to South Beach. |

It could be the diet, if you want to continue with the diet make sure to take a vitamin suppliment, and get some exercise. Also, drink plenty of water, you could be dehydrated. |

That's normal for Atkins. You have no energy food (carbs). Stick it out and you will gain your energy back. |

your body needs some carbs to convert to energy. I would not recommend Atkins. Everybody I know that tried it lost weight but they gained it all back. One lady got really high cholesteral because of it. |

The most reported negative side effect associated with low-carb diets is the "unhealthy metabolic mode called ketosis" (http://homearts.com/depts/health/049afl.htm). Although it is also associated with many other conditions such as diabetes, ketosis can be caused by a deficiency of carbohydrates in the body. Ketosis is a metabolic disorder, characterized by a build up of chemicals known as ketones, which are produced by the body as a by-product of combusting fat (Leung 1995). An increase in the level of ketones in the body results in larger than normal excretion of sodium and water loss. These symptoms produce most of the weight loss that is reported by low-carb dieters. During ketosis, many people tend to feel sluggish and tired and will experience low levels of energy. Other, less severe side effects include constipation, gas, and excess protein in the body
