parents think i am crazy when i tell them i think i have diabetes?
I looked at all the symptons of diabetes and i might have it. however, most of the symptons could be a coincidence (look at my last question). how do i convince them that i want to see my doctor or get my blood checked or something..
cause when i tell them, they start to laugh and say that i dont have it... diabetes runs in my family too..... what do i do?????
Additional Details
i cant go to the doctor myself because i am only 15 and cant drive and dont have insurance card...

Its possible that you convinced yourself you do have it, and develop signs of it. Ive done that before. Its weird, but anyways.... uh... lost my train of thought.

Answer mine?http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081007172602AAGGwZ3

haha nothing to say if ur family not belive it .....
just check up n wait to the result ....hope u will not hav that sick....^^

Just go there by yourself. Or research the stuff and lay it out for your parents. Tell them that diabetes is genetic and show them that you have the symptoms.

Look at them seriously and speak to them seriously. Tell them that this involves your life and if they care about your health, they should get you a check up. Diabetes isn't something a person can joke around about or use as a joke. My best friend has diabetes and trust me, if she didn't take proper care of it, she wouldn't be as healthy as today. Tell them that it is better to give you a check up and find out that it's only a mistake, rather than to be LAZY about it and regret it for life if you actually do have diabetes. If they are good parents, then they would be mature and take actions that would be beneficial to your health. Health ISN'T something to be playing around with. I have to go through numerous family member's death to learn this. Take care.

Well, that is something that they should take seriously. Diabetes is an awful disease, that can cause a lot of complications with your heart, kidneys, ect...if not controled properly. Ask them seriously if you can make a dr.'s apt. and if they still don't take you seriously, then make your own dr's apt.

Parents are so stupid. I'm 28 and pregnant and hope I listen to my kids. Find a friend with a finger stick blood tester. I think 80 to 120 is normal. If it runs in your family, you should have an easy time of getting ahold of one.

Also, if they just wont listen, there are things you can do. Adult onset diabetes is caused by to much fat blocking the cells and sugar can't get in. Cut fatty foods out of your diet. avoid very high sugar foods, but don't make yourself crazy over it. Sugar isn't the problem, its the fat.

My best suggestion is to either A) Show you parents the facts about the signs of diabetes and tell them you have the signs and/or B) Go to a pharmacy and see if they sell urine ketone strips. If you are a diabetic, you will not be getting any insulin any your body will probably have some ketones. Good luck! If you find out you are a diabetic and need help, you can always contact me and I will help you the best I can (I am a diabetic)!

you need to be completely serious with them and convince them that you need to see a doctor. If they still dont believe you, find an adult you can trust and tell them of your concern. you can also go to the doctor on your own. i dont know how old you are - but if youre not old enough - you can bring an aunt or uncle or family friend with you.

here's a website for you to look at that might be helpful:

I hope this helps. good luck

hehe.im 14 so i know what u mean. mabe u should like pretend u get dizzy or something, like your about to faint, then theyll take you.
but who knows i though i had diabetes, and i went to the doctor, i only have a little high cholesterol, and i sound like a retard now thinking i have diabetes.but now my loser parents think i have diabetes,so i have to get blood drawn again.

Ms. Imawreck
Have them take you to a doctor and if you do then they'll believe the doctors diagnosis.

why u dont go to the doc yourself?

Oh no! Well you arent crazy! Have you maybe said things before that made you look like a "hypochondriac?" sad to say, but maybe you are the "kid crying wolf" if you really think you have diabetes, you need to get it treated as soon as possible.

Here are some symptoms.

Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Extreme hunger
Unusual weight loss
Increased fatigue
Blurry vision

Present these to your parents and say: "I am really worried about my health and would like to get tested for both types of diabetes, even if I dont have it, it runs in our family and Im concerned."

If you talk to them like an adult you will have a better chance of a better response! Good luck and talk to someone at your school if you still arent getting a result!

Can't see your last question?

you didn't say how old you are. So if you are in school, go to your school nurse or health aid and tell them your symptoms, that might help, if your not in school, go to your local health department, it won't cost as much as a Dr.'s office, if your a minor they won't be able to do anything without a parents consent, but you could get more information to give to your parents about diabetes.

Go with yourself ask your parents for money and go on your own. Be brave! You will never know the results if you don't go to your doctor.

Listen. I Thought I Had So Too, But Nah :). Okay, If Diabetes Type 2 Runs In Your Family, You ONLY Get It If Your Overweight & eat too much junk food. If Diabetes Type 1 Runs In Your Family, Go Get It Checked Out For Sure! && Its Not That They Don't Believe You, Its Just That They Don't Want To Believe That They're Child Has It. They Love You. Keep Begging && Eventually They'll Take You. Hopefully You Don't. [: God Bless You!

Do some research on diabetes and show them. I am extremely glad to see someone that actually is worried about their health enough to research it and want to do something about it. You must see your physician ASAP. Diabetes is a serious thing and you need to learn how to manage it if you really do have it. It can cause lots of problems for you in the long run so make sure you sit your parents down and tell them how serious you are. Im sure they will take you seriously and have you see a physician.

ask a doctor about it i thought i had it also but my dads a diabetes doctor which helps nd he told me that it was just a coincidence and there was nothing to worry about. if you have any specific questions email me, and ask someone to take you to the doctors if you cant drive yourself.

Jacqueline H
wow your parents are weirdos, no offense. keep begging them, and they'll see how desperate you are.

Some towns have teen clinics. You may want to check that place out if you have one.

You could also see your school nurse.

how old are you? can you go to the dr. or clinic alone. maybe check with your school nurse.

even if they think you're crazy, they should still have you checked.

The only way to know for sure is a blood test. Ask your Dr next time you go. (Your school's nurse may also have a glucose meter).

Michael C
If you honestly think you do and your parents won't take you, you might want to talk to your school nurse, or go to the doctor's by yourself. Good luck, and hope you don't have it!
