Can drinking too much soda pop over time help contribute to diabetes? ?
If someone drinks an abnormal amount of soda pop per day, say 3/4 of a 2 liter per day, can that help to onset diabetes if they eat otherwise pretty healthy?

Can drinking too much soda flat out CAUSE diabetes?

Just a curious question. Thanks in advance!!

Roxanne G
yes obesity causes diabetes and soda contributes to that because of all the sugar and calories

Kenneth R
yes and no

yes if you drink to much

and no if you drink too much and eat healthy and excersise

yeah it can.

that much sugar is way too much for your body to handle combined with all the other food eaten in a day.

the sugar

As A
i bet your asking because you do but yes it can. basically eating too much of any type of junk food = diabetes. if you dont know what causes diabetes its just to much glucose in your blood. ways to get rid of some gulcose are activities that need action like sports.

soda over a day long period(as in your 3/4 of a 2 liter) will not-if you drink 2-3 two liters and eat the hell out of sugar filled snack foods, then yes-one interesting fact about soda(may be interesting for you)if you drink diet soda, the chemicals in your liver mix with the fake sugars and produce formaldehyde,if you dont know what that is it is embalming fluid(what they cure dead folks with so they dont immediately decompose)so diet soda is actually no good for you-it can do more damage than good-its a proven scientific fact(fun fact eh? lol)but to your answer....no,unless you are pre diabetic no harm will come from 3/4 of a 2 liter per day(thats not eccesive either,i know folks that drink a 12-24 (12 oz cans)pack a day, that is very unhealthy and they have no problems heath wise)

Yes its loaded w. Sugar which causes major insulin fluctuations in your body like a roller coaster. Over time your body wont be able to handle it and THUS diabetes occurs. Drink Water with ice cubes mmmm I want some now!

yup. anything with 2 much sugar can cause diabetes. did u no there's 12 tsp of sugar in 1 can of soda?

Yupp, im that girl! =)

Queen of Y!A☮
Yes. you wouldn't believe the amount of sugar that is in soda! It's crazy.

Yes it can because it is loaded with tons of carbs and sugar.

Try and not drink too much all the time, just limit it to like, 2 cans a week or one bottle a week.

And flat out diabetes? I don't think so, not unless you're drinking 2 liters every day.

Yep. Liver damage, too, if you don't drink a lot of water.

Yes, I believe so. It is loaded with sugar, and sugar-rich diets have been shown to increase the risk of getting diabetes.

Not to mention all the other crap in sodas, that is. They are fine in moderation, but 3/4 of a 2 liter bottle a day seems like too much to me.

I HAVE DIABETES!!! no it wont cause flat out diabetes (a.k.a. type one) it could however cause type 2. Sugar becomes fat, and too much fat can cause type 2, better change whoever you're talking abouts eating habits, i wouldnt want anyone to have to suffer. :(

There's sugar in soda pop. If you're predisposed to diabetes, the sugar in soda pop can certainly contribute to it. If you're not and you live a healthy life, I don't think it would flat out cause it. On the other hand, soda pop can rot your teeth out, which will in time affect your diet in a negative way.

Deadly Memories
No the drinking of SODA will do no effect its just the sugar content that may cause diabetes.
But if you drink that much and eat healthy it will still highly increase the risk of getting diabetes, it doesn't mean you will.
But believe it or not most foods have a MUCH higher sugar content than you would normally assume, such as white breads.

Be safe.

I was reading The PH Miracle for Diabetes by Dr. Young.

Dr. Young writes that soft drinks are about the highest acidic thing that people consume, and it does a lot of damage inside the body.

Dr. Young also writes that once a person is less acidic, that there insulin works more efficiently, and so the inverse is true, if the body is more acidic, then the body produced insulin is not going to work as well, and you could get diabetes if the pancreas is overloaded with acids.

I know 3 people that have been able to reduce their diabetes medication once they started to drink alkaline water, and gave up acidic things like cheese, eggs, and lowered their intake of meats.

I used to drink 2 L of soft drinks with dinner when I went someplace like Taco Bell. I am 300 pounds, and 6'4" tall, so it is not like I was little to begin with.

Any chance that the increase of Diabetes in the United States is related to the average of 50 gallons of soft drinks made for each person in the US each year? Yes!

How about Attention Deficit Disorder?

But will the doctor say come back for an office visit three times a month and take $250 a month in prescriptions, or will he say stop drinking soft drinks, and red bull. The Pharmacy company will pay for his trip to the Caribbean next year.

Good Luck !
