is teeth grinding a mental disorder?
is it a mental disorder or just a mere emotional problems and stress? i need an opinion especially from an expert..a dentist probably :)

You are under some kind of stress. Figure out what is bothering you and while you are trying to fix that, get a mouthguard, to wear while you sleep. This will open your jaw hinge and give some relief to your jaw and help protect your teeth.

No it is not a mental disorder. Just a bad habit that could end up being expensive with a dentist.

no just a nervous disorder and is usually related to stress

OCHIE
Teeth grinding differs from a lot of person;if you grind your teth when you are stress then this is caused by stress..Some do it unconciously like when they where sleeping "night grinding".But most common case grinding of teeth or bruxism has been a bad habit that a person do since she or he was a child..It could be emotionally if the cause of your teeth grinding is an emotional situation..This is not a mental disorder it is a bad habit of a person which can be stop by his or herself..

The jury's still out on what actually causes one to grind their teeth (bruxism), but most signs point to stress. Overtime it can lead to attrition and possibly temporalmandibular joint (TMJ) problems. It's advisable to visit a dentist and have a nightguard fabricated to prevent further damage.

There are essentially two types of nightguards, soft and hard. The soft ones are made from some type of polymer, similar to a mouth guard used in sports. These protect well against attrition and are more comfortable, but tend to wear faster. They can also double as a bleaching tray due to their tight fit. The other type of of guard is hard and made of acrylic. These aren't as comfy, but do last longer and also are more effective at fixing TMJ problems because it keeps your bite farther open.

No. I tend to grind if I am under stress.

i may not be a dentist but i've gone through that phase... there is a probability that stress may be the main cause of teeth grinding but it's not consider as "MENTAL DISORDER"...

i suggest you follow what your dentist RECOMMENDS about that teeth grinding problem... your pearly whites are too precious to be taken for granted...
