I have the same problem and went to the dentist. They looked at it and my tooth was cracked around my filling. They said that since it was causing me pain that I might have to have a root canal done because the nerves were exposed.

He should definitely go to the dentist for xrays...it could be anything from "nothing" to a tumor....Perhaps 1 week is not an indication of anything and the pain will go away ...good luck

If it is jaw pain then it could be in his ear. Or it could be his teeth. I would recommend seeing you regular doctor first. If it is just jaw pain it could be a couple different things. If it is jaw plus like a tooth or area in the mouth then it could be a tooth. When you have a tooth ache the pain can actually radiate to a different area. If he hit his face in the jaw area it could be just a bruise under the skin (since nothing is visible). Thats why I would recommend seeing your regular doctor first. I am a nurse.

He may have an infection or abcess in the bone or his wisdom teeth are coming through and can take many years to come out! How old is he? I have known people be around the age of 40 and they are still getting wisdom teeth. Is the gum hard on top when pressed? If so I may be right, if it feels soft anywhere or inflamed more likely ot be abcess. Go to the dentist dear boy, but in the mean time gargle with warm salty water. Dont swallow in case it is infection or it may spread to your blood stream.

I must say that your question lacks the details. You already have enough of guessing game - cracked tooth, abscess, bruxism, TMJ.... Before you start getting any weird ideas, set up an appointment for a sweet advice from the dentist for a possible referral to the specialist.

Could be a TMJ problem (this is the jaw joint near the ear). I should take a trip to the dentist and mention the TMJ, so that he/she knows that you are clued up and does the proper investigations. Once a problem has been identified, it can be treated - don't worry and good luck.

I suggest you go to the dentist and check it out. My guess is that it is either a tooth ache or the nerves are triggering because of something

Your partner could have many different problems along with others mentioned he/she could be developing TMJ : tempo-mandibular-joint dysfunction! It can be mild to very painful. The dentist can probably do a lot to help at this point, but don't wait as this condition worsens if not treated as well as some of the other conditions worsening. GET THEE/HE/SHE TO THY DENTIST -- QUICKLY!
I have TMJ and was treated, now it only hits me rarely if I bite down unevenly.
If this has helped you, please vote my answer as BEST ANSWER. thank you !

Okay...It might be a TMJ problem and or he might be grinding at night when he's asleep.
I would say try a night guard...your local dentist can make you one..or if you like I work for a dental office in Long Beach, Ca. If your near pass by and or call us for an appt. for free...my name is Erica and our number is 562-430-2740

Sounds like he's got some sort of an infection in the musculature or it will soon develope into an abcess. Ask him if he has any history of lower mandibular displacement with a popping sound on one side. It might have to do with the madibular joint itself.

My sister just came down with Bell's Palsy all of a sudden after having jaw pain like you mentioned. It could be many different things, of course, but that is a sign of Bell's Palsy coming on. Check it out at www.webmd.com

He needs to go get checked for TMJ (temporomandibular joint disease). I'd start with dentist, or call a specialist.

june clever
Could be a problem called tmj. It is a jaw disorder. It causes alot of pain when chewing and even sometimes talking. It can be diagnosed with special x-rays, check it out.

Could be TMJ.
