Is laughing gas used for pulling wisdom teeth?
If not, is anything else used to numb the pain.

Also, how is laughing gas put into the body(is it injected or inhaled or something)

Lastly, does getting a regular tooth pulled hurt the same as getting a wisdom tooth pulled(cuz ive gotten 2 molar teeth pulled) or does pulling wisdom teeth hurt more?

Thanks soo much
(btw, im 13 and my dentist said that i have to get it pulled it in a few months:(

I had 4 taken out at once. The doctor gave me a valium, and the rest was just Novocaine. Wisdom teeth are more of a job. You could be laid up for several days. There is always a chance of infection in the sinus canal too. Just take things slowly afterward.

I don't think laughing gas would be used for pulling out wisdom teeth, due to the fact that well.. It would be quite hard for your dentist to yank a tooth out while you're laughing right? Id assume he/she would probably use some painkiller. And I heard that wisdom teeth are far more painful.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. They will put you to sleep so you are not awake for it and they will give you something to numb the pain before hand, however once it wears off you will feel the pain but they will give you medicine to help. The day before the operation they will give you couple of pills to take that will make you kind of goofy as well. I cannot remember everything that they did its been a while but when you do get them pulled make sure you are able to take about a week off from school and or work. Hope this helps you out.

They don't use laughing gas to knock you out, which is inhaled by the way. They might use it to calm you, but to knock you out they inject something into you, I don't know what it's called, but they use an IV which stays in you the entire time they're working on your teeth. I had 4 completely under the surface and it took them about 45 minutes, then they want you to sleep for an hour or so in the recovery room before you go home. Nothing hurts, because of the drugs they give you. Your head stays in the clouds for a good few hours after you leave the building to go home too. Don't worry about pain, you wont feel a thing. :)

if your tooth is a healthy tooth then the pain is same if der is any pain at all

gas must be inhaled you cant inject gas

because ur 13 they mite put you to sleep, but i tink there stopping are it just in special caeses, so if ur fit, you most like get an injection in your mouth to completly numb it

Chrys
they don't use 'gas' much anymore...usually a local (novocaine) or give you an iv..it always hurts to pull a tooth, but they give you pain pills if you ask.

SamuraiX
No, they usually knock you out when they take out your wisdom teeth. I don't know what the drug is, but it works fast and last about an hour.

Nitrous oxide is used to relax you, it doesn't really numb the pain. The dentist or oral surgeon will either give you a shot in your mouth to numb the area or they will completely sedate you. If you're completely sedated, you won't need the nitrous oxide.

Most dentists offices nowadays, you have to specifically request the gas. And that's because most dental insurances don't cover it. So you may have to pay like $5.00 for it.

A wisdom tooth is a molar. So it should be about the same.

It's a gas and it's inhaled, they put this mask over your nose and turn it on. Then you start floating away.

nope you are asleep when they do that

My oral surgeon used Novocaine to numb the mouth and then Sodium Pentothal to put me under. The Sodium Pentothal was issued via IV. I did not receive Nitrous Oxide although some dentists and surgeons do use it.

There are different types of things used for wisdom tooth removal, it really depends on the position of the teeth and whether they need to be pulled or extracted (cut out).

I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth extracted a month ago and I was put under general anaesthetic (meaning I was given a needle and put completely to sleep).

Wisdom tooth extractions can be painful, but they give you pain medicine that makes it bearable. I found it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Wisdom teeth hurt more, they are rooted deeper. Usually, depending on the dentist, you get to pick if you want laughing gas or if you would like to be asleep. I would go with being asleep; laughing gas just makes you feel weird and disoriented. It made me freak out and It's inhaled through the nose.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed about 25 years ago, the doctor gave me laughing gas (nitrous oxide) inhaled, as well as intravenous valium/demerol and sodium pentethol. It didn't hurt at all.

As a matter of fact, the effects of the anaesthesia were very interesting...my eyes were closed for the operation, but I could hear everything the doctor said (including, to the assistant..."get that blood before he chokes on it".). I could also detect, by the feeling of pressure (no pain, only pressure) exactly which tooth he was working on each time.

Then they moved me to another room for about 45 minutes to an hour to "sleep off" the anaesthesia before letting me go home.

The gums are a little sensitive for a while afterwards, so I opted to drink fluids and Special K protein drinks to get the nutrients and vitamins I needed for the next 3 days.

They numb ur mouth really well regardless of being asleep or awake. Laughing gas is inhaled. It all depends on ur pain tolerance.

Okay, so when I got my wisdom teeth extracted, my blood pressure skyrocketed, so they put an IV in my to make me drowsy but didn't gas me. In general, most places to give you laughing gas though, and it goes something like this:
-doctor puts mask on you- "okay hun, count down from 100"
"100, 99, weiojfpoidsajpiuhg...."
And then you're totally out for the duration of the surgery.
Afterwards, they'll tell you to rotate ice and heat on your jaw, and they'll give you plenty of painkillers so it shouldn't hur t at all [i never took the pain killers and the pain was still minimal]
It's moreso annoying [cuz you have to change out the gauze in the back of your mouth from where your gums are bleeding] than painful. I wouldn't worry about it too much :)

Good luck!!
